Abstract

Sumardi et al, 2016. Ratoon Performances of Rice Lines Generated from Bengkulu Local Varieties on Inland Swamp. JLSO 5(1):71-78.Ratooning offers an opportunity to increase rice production under swampy areas commonly hampered by a limited growing seasons due seasonal water level fluctuation. Present study was undertaken to evaluate the ratoon growth and yield performances of rice lines grown on inland swamp. Eight F4 lines derived from crosses involving Bengkulu local swamp rice varieties (UBPR1, UBPR2,  UBPR3, UBPR4, UBPR6, UBPR7, UBPR9, and UBPR10)  along with two released varieties (Inpara5 and Inpara 6) were grown on inland swamp under a randomized complete block design with three replications. Data were collected on ratoons emerged following harvest of the main crops for plant height,  total tiller number, heading date, productive tiller number, panicle length, grain number per panicle, percent of filled grains per panicle, 100 grain weight,  and grain yield per hill. Results indicated significant variations among the genotypes for most of the observed variables, except total tiller number, grain number per panicle, and percent of filled grains per panicle. UBPR10had produced highest total tiller number (12.6) and productive tiller number (11.6). UBPR1 produced the highest panicle length (19.0 cm) and grain number per panicle (66.43).  UBPR3 exhibited the tallest  (100.13 cm) and highest grain yield per hill (12.023 g), but most delayed heading date (18.0 d).  With respect to the productivity of  ratoon,  UBPR 3 showed the most productive lineby yielding  grain 49.54% of the main crop yield.

Abstract

ABSTRACT[THE EFFECT OF GOAT MANURES AND NPK 16:16:16 FERTILIZER ON THE GROWTH OF SEEDLESS GUAVA CROPS AND QUALITY OF ITS FRUIT (Psidium guajava L) AT RAINY SEASONS OF INDONESIA]. Guava var. Crystal, known as seedless guava, is one of the most popular guava in Indonesia. Compated to other guavas, seedless guava has softer texture, tastes sweeter, and has less seeds. This experiment was carried out from September 2017 to February 2018 at Harapan Makmur village, Pondok Kubang regency, and Central Bengkulu district. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of goat manures and NPK 16:16:16 fertilizers on the growth of guava crops and the quality of its fruits. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design (2 factors, 5 replications). The first factor tested was the dose of goat manures, consisting of 3 levels: 0, 9, and 18 kg/plant. The second factor tested was the dose of NPK 16:16:16 fertilizers, consisting of 3 levels: 0, 0,25, and 0.5 kg/plant. The results showed that goat manures significantly affected the diameter and number of branches. In addition, the dose of NPK significantly affected the diameter of branches, degree of leaf greenness, number of flower, and number of aborted flowers. Finally, the interaction between goat manures and NPK manures did not significantly affect all variables measured, except for leaf areas.

Abstract

[GROWTH AND YIELD OF FOUR VARIETIES OF MUNG BEAN (Vigna radiata L.) PLANT ON DOSING OF CHICKEN MANURE FERTILIZER IN ULTISOL]. Ultisols generally have less favorable physical, chemical, and biological properties. Chicken manure is believed to be able to improve soil structure, increase water holding capacity, increase soil pH, increase cation exchange capacity, increase soil biological activity, and facilitate root penetration. This study aims to determine the optimum dose of chicken manure in increasing the growth and yield of four mung bean varieties in Ultisol. This research was conducted using a split-plot design. The doses of chicken manure (0 tons/ha, 10 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha, and 30 tons/ha) were placed in the main plots and mung bean varieties (Vima-1, Vima-2, Kutilang, and Murai) as children. plots with experimental plot units measuring 1 m x 2 m. This study aims to obtain the optimum dose of chicken manure on four varieties of mung bean plants and to find the varieties that have the best growth and yield of green bean plants in Ultisol. The results showed that the highest weight of 100 seeds was obtained from the Kutilang variety which was given chicken manure of 21.34 tons/ha with a maximum weight of 100 seeds of 8.82 g. The highest yield of seed/plant weight was obtained from the application of chicken manure 19.61 tons/ha with a yield of 15.43 g. Kutilang variety is the best variety compared to other varieties, with yields of seed weight/plant of 12 g.

Abstract

[THE PRODUCTIVITY OF LOWLAND RICE UNDER DIFFERENT POPULATION DENSITIES]. Population density will determine the crop productivity on either individual plant basis or area basis. Objective of this study was to evaluate the productivity  of lowland rice at different population densities.  Rice variety IR-64 was planted on 13.2 m x 10 m plot at four population densities (16, 25, 49 and 100 plant m-2)  in a completely randomized design with three replications. Observations were made on the yield components on individual plant basis and grain yield per area. Results indicated that tiller number, number of productive tiller, number of spikelet per panicle, number of fertile spikelet, and grain yield per hill were reduced  as the population density was increased.  On contrary, grain yield per 100 m2 was increased linearly in accordance to the increment of population density, where 47.57 kg grain per 100 m2 produced at the density of 16 plant m-2 and 86.53 kg was produced at the density of 100 plant m-2.
