Abstract

Tulisan berikut merupakan penelitian kualitatif mengenai strategi adaptasi pedagang kaki lima (PKL) dalam menandai tindakan sosial manusia yang menandai dinamika kegiatan ekonomi di perkotaan (khususnya di Kota Semarang). Tujuan yang ingin dicapai dari kajian ini adalah tersajikannya lukisan mendalam mengenai pola-pola usaha di sektor informal, serta penciptaan jaringan sosial di antara keluarga PKL dalam rangka mengisi lapangan pekerjaan di perkotaan. Sejumlah tindakan sosial manusia, khususnya yang dilakukan para PKL dalam penelitian ini, menyiratkan tentang tindakan sosial manusia yang kemudian mengkonstruksi konsep jaringan sosial dan strategi adaptasi PKL Kota Semarang.The following article is a qualitative research about the adaptation strategy of street vendors in marking the human’s social action that marks the dynamic of economic activities in urban areas (especially in Semarang). The objectives of this study are presenting in-depth portrait of the business patterns in the informal sector, and the creation of social networks among street vendors’ families in order to fill the job fields in urban area. Several human’s social actions, especially conducting by the street vendors in this research, imply about human social action which then construct the concept of social networking and adaptation strategies of the street vendors in Semarang city.

Abstract

This paper is aimed at describing adaptive strategy used by supported community to preserve and develop Jathilan, Javanese traditional ritual art performance. In describing the aim, the most fundamental nature and meaning attached in the artistic performance had been studied. Qualitative method was employed through literature review and field study. This study located in Magelang Regency, Central Java. The Jathilan in this paper is seen as cultural identity for its supported community, that has a specific role socially and ritually. The supported community, in addition, believes that this traditional art is not only acted as an entertainment, but also a facilitator for their hopes and prays. Despite some changes have influenced the differences of style and variation in the performing art, however, the changes themselves are the manifestation of adaptive strategy had from the supported community to preserve and conserve Jathilan performing art.

Abstract

Abstract: The culture commodification is the sale-purchase transaction of cultural objects through industrial process that was born along with the globalization era. The tourism industry is the child of globalization that produce cultural objects to be traded for the financial benefit. One form of the commodification cultural objects in the globalization era is the traditional arts. The problem is how the strategy needs to be developed so that the traditional arts as the subject of its supporting society's local wisdom is remain protected, but on the other hand it is expected to accomodate the demand of economic globalization that has conducted the culture commodification? With the aim to synergize the presence of traditional arts as the cultural identity of its supporting society and the tourism industry demands that conduct culture commo¬dification, then through a field research using qualitative method, it resulted the following description. First, the culture commo¬dification becomes a necessity in the global economy era that evolve in this era of postmodernity, especially it's marked by the growing of the tourism industry. Second, the culture commo¬dification to the local wisdom can basically be solved by several strategies without marginalizing the supporting society of the local wisdom. Third, the existence of traditional arts as a cultural identity can be protected and revitalized from the demands of the culture commodification, as long as it is also developing a concept that is able to synergize the perception and responses of the supporting society to the demands of the tourism industry. Fourth, one of the most relevant concepts to accommodate the demands of the culture com¬modification is a concept that is commonly referred as the pseudo traditional art. Abstrak: Komodifikasi budaya adalah transaksi jual beli benda budaya melalui proses industri yang lahir seiring dengan era globalisasi. Industri pariwisata adalah anak kandung globalisasi yang memproduksi benda budaya untuk diperjualbelikan demi keuntungan secara finansial. Salah satu bentuk benda budaya yang dikomodifikasi di era globalisasi adalah kesenian tradisional. Permasalahannya adalah, bagaimana strategi yang perlu dikembangkan agar kesenian tradisional sebagai subjek kearifan lokal masyarakat pendukungnya tetap telindungi, tetapi di sisi lain ia diharapkan bisa mengakomodasi tuntutan globalisasi ekonomi yang telah melakukan komodifikasi budaya? Dengan tujuan untuk mensinergikan antara keberadaan kesenian tradisional sebagai identitas kultural masyarakat pendukung dan tuntutan industri pariwisata yang melakukan komodifikasi budaya, maka melalui penelitian lapangan yang menggunakan metode kualitatif telah menghasilkan gambaran sebagai berikut. Pertama, komodifikasi budaya menjadi keniscayaan di era ekonomi global yang berkembang di era pascamodernitas ini, terutama ditandai dengan kian berkembangnya industri pariwisata. Kedua, komodifikasi budaya terhadap kearifan lokal pada dasarnya dapat dipecahkan dengan sejumlah strategi tanpa harus memarjinalkan masyarakat pendukung kearifan lokal tersebut. Ketiga, keberadaan kesenian tradisional sebagai identitas kultural dapat terlindungi dan direvitalisasi dari tuntutan komodifikasi budaya, sepanjang dikembangkan suatu konsep yang mampu mensinergikan antara persepsi dan respons masyarakat pendukung dengan tuntutan industri pariwisata. Keempat, salah satu konsep yang paling relevan untuk mengakomodasi tuntutan komodifikasi budaya adalah konsep yang lazim disebut sebagai psedo traditional art.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe traditional art capitalization as the cultural identity of a society and a strategy of the society which supports traditional art in developing cultural comodification in line with the demands of the tourism industry. The paper is based on field research presenting a case study of the existence of Kubrosiswo traditional art from Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia which develops the cultural comodification as a strategy to respond to the economic capitalization demands, especially the emergence of the tourism industry which appeared in this globalization era. One alternative strategy which is developed in this research is by making a documentary film. The documentary film is one of the strategies to present the reality based on the description in the field, and it is also expected to create awareness in recognizing and comprehending the knowledge of Kubrosiswo traditional art.

Abstract

This research aims at discovering the innovation performed by artists of people’s theatre to the stories which have been a tradition and commonly known to the audience. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach, focusing on the performance of Sumonten Edan (SE) story by a ketoprak group Wahyu Manggolo Pati. In performing the story, despite being bound by the basic norms of performance known as pakem, Suminten Edan story is performed with some modifications to show innovations. These innovations include both the story and performance aspects.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article is a response to the book Death Without Weeping: The Violence of Everyday Life in Brazil, the work of Nancy Scheper-Hughes, University of California Press Berkeley and Los Angeles: 1992. Ethnographic work of the book is more likely to be in line with the thinking of post-modernism, which saw a radical change from an industrial to the postindustrial organized cultural consumption, mass media game, and the development of information technology. In addition to a combination of approaches-symbolic interpretivism approach and historical material- expressed on the issues of marginalization and contestation of power inherent in the post-modernism culture today. Abstract

ABSTRACTIntegration includes the meaning of the formation of groups united by a common issue, whether ideological, economic, and social. The overture of national integration movement through the following article tends to create an awareness and a social form that cause many groups with each identity see themselves as one unity: the Indonesian Nation. To create an association in national integration formation, identity has double functions. In addition, the following article is trying to discuss about the challenges for Indonesia to develop the concept of national integration in order to deal with the concept of ethnocentrism, religiousism , and politicalism.Keywords: national integration, ethnocentrism and conflict of interest

Abstract

The existence of traditional arts are often addressed as the expression and identity of a culture and at the same time it is based on the local wisdom and uniqueness of a  society. Further more, traditional art is exist and developed through the traditions of a society, as well as to support and maintain social collectivity. However, traditional art in this post-modern time is often considered as not in line with the changing of time. Based on those facts, it needs effort to reconstruct, renovate, revitalize and recreate the traditional art which in line with the civilization development as well as the demand of the creative industry. Through the case study of Jathilan Art in Magelang Regency-Central Java, this study is trying to conduct inventory and to identify the problems. From the results of the inventory and identification of the problems, the study also will perform activities of reconstruction, renovation, revitalization and recreation of traditional art. The purpose of this study will produce the  production designing, production packaging, and production marketing of traditional art which in line with the development of creative industry. The results of the  production design, production packaging, and production marketing of traditional arts will make the television show program suitable with the demand of its audiences.
