Abstract

This article aims to find out and describe the shifting position of the GPM (Gereja Protestan Maluku) as to other religions, especially Islam. Through library research towards some important documents of the GPM, the researcher found out the development of theological perspectives of the GPM which are fundamental and important for the GPM in understanding other religions. In studying these documents, this study discovered that the position of the GPM as to other religions before the social conflict in 1999 and 2004 are differ significantly to that of after the social conflict. In the document of PIP/RIPP in the period of 1995 to 2005, before the social conflict, they described clearly that the GPM recognizes other religions as the object of its mission. In contrast, in the same document of the period of 2005 to 2015, after the social conflict, they state that the GPM embraces other religions as its partner. Even in the newest document of Ajaran Gereja GPM, they state that God in Jesus Christ is the Savior of all human beings without religious categories. These theological notions have a significant impact on the GPM in shaping its relation with other religions. Not only the theological normative notion, but also the cultural perspectives such as Pela have opened the possibility for the Moluccan Moslems and Christians to coexist as brothers and sisters.

Abstract

Reconciliation between Muslims and Christians in Ambon City is an important process to know and study. In 1999-2004 Muslims and Christians got involved in religious-based social conflicts. The social conflicts have uprooted their brotherhood and sisterhood relationship, and left deep historical wounds. However, after a decade, Muslims and Christians in Ambon City have been successful in restoring their life in harmony and peace. Based on the interview with young people in several areas in Ambon City, it was found that reconciliation could be restored by realizing that both Muslim and Christian people should restore the social conflicts for the sake of their good future. They have restored the reconciliation between themselves by having social and religious activities. The process of reconciliation and religious dialogue may be seen as ways of healing the historical wounds of the past social conflicts.

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discover theological notions of pela, a Moluccan local culture, especially the Pela relationship between Abubu and Tenga-tenga in the Central Maluku. The researchers will develop the three cultural models by Hessegrave and Rommen (S: (sumber) source, B: (berita) news, P: (penerima) recipient). The three-culture model illustrates that the Bible’s message came in meaningful speeches and ideas for its sources (prophets, apostles and Bible writers) and recipients (listeners and readers) in Hebrew and Greco-Roman cultures. Generally, the news also has been adjusted in wider aspect, so it becomes totally meaningful to the people in the cultures where Christian message is spread out, the church establishes, and the place where cross-cultural messengers are originated. After that examining effort, it turns out that the theological values in the pela relationship such as the mutual assistances, brotherhood-sisterhood, solidarity, respecting religious faith of one another, manifested in mutual happiness in celebrating some religious events. The values in pela relationships can be established both for pela participants and people outside the pela system.

Abstract

Religious, cultural and ethnic diversity in the face of Indonesian people's life. Behind this diversity, there are positive and negative potentials. The positive potential is that Indonesia has people from various backgrounds, so social interactions occur. The community upholds cooperation, mutual respect, and tolerance. These inclusive values are then practised in social life at all levels, including the people of the Taniwel sub-district, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province. Meanwhile, the negative potential is that the diversity that exists also saves space for societal barriers when easily provoked by irresponsible elements, such as violent conflicts in the name of religion that occurred in several parts of Indonesia and hit the Taniwel sub-district. A conflict then changes the way people view diversity in people's lives. As a result, religious harmony is threatened, disintegrating within the community itself. Therefore, this community service activity was carried out considering the lack of understanding among the community about the importance of national literacy and religious moderation. The attitude of religious moderation through strengthening inclusiveness values needs to be built into the community. This is an acknowledgement of the other party's existence and an attitude of respect for differences. This difference then becomes the reason not to hurt each other, suspect, and judge one another. On the contrary, it strengthens and unites each other.
