Abstract

This article is discussing on how the rise and tide of Minangkabau traditional trading occur in Kuala Lumpur. The research focused on four areas in Kuala Lumpur, Chow Kit, Kampung Baru, Kampung Dato’ Keramat and Mesjid India area, reveals that there are some small stalls of Minangkabau  traditional trading are now owned by another Indonesian ethnicity such as Acehenese and Boyanese tribe. Meanwhile, some of the businesses are still possessed by Minangkabau tribe such as Nasi Padang and textile trading. The phenomenon is affected by the lack of business innovation, capital, local competitor and the fact that they are unable to follow the trend in business. Even though,  there are some of well-developed traditional business run by Minangkabau people in Kuala Lumpur due to the existence of marketing creativity, innovative items, and the conducive partnership with another Minangkabau entrepreneurs in the textile merchant  in form of kiosk or  arcade in Mesjid India area that has connection with another counterpart of the  nationwide  including Sabah and Sarawak.

Abstract

Abstract Rationalization of parent’s education is an intended action thru meaningful consideration and thought to choose higher education institution. This rationale is based on the data derived from many information resources which can predict many future possibilities before it comes to a decision. New orientation is as a change of self conception and parent’s education rationalization in giving choice of many conventional options before a child enter English Department, of faculty of letters in higher education institution. Due to this, somebody’s action is usually based on the stipulated objective, interest and motivation or may be by both. Children’s interest in this case, gives intrinsic motivation for themselves. Thus, orientation in choosing higher education of faculty of letters, English Department can be happened because of the rationalization influence of parent’s education and communication. Abstract

This research is entitled "Survival strategy of rubber farmers when there is a decline in rubber prices in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency". The location of this study was chosen because the majority of the population in Ampung Padang Village make a living as rubber farmers. This study aims to determine the survival strategy of rubber farmers when there is a decline in rubber prices in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency and to find out the forms of strategies that rubber farmers use when rubber prices decline. The research method used is a descriptive study method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, in-depth interviews, and literature study. The informants in this study were rubber farmers in Ampung Padang Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency. Data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that there were three strategies that rubber farmers used to survive, namely: active strategy, passive strategy, and network strategy. The active strategy carried out by rubber farmers is to look for side jobs, join family members to work and optimize all available resources. The passive strategy carried out by rubber farmers is to apply a frugal lifestyle and reduce family expenses. The network strategy used by rubber farmers is to ask for help from the social networks they have, both formal and informal networks.
