Abstract

Oil palm fresh fruit brunch (FFB) are the main source of crude palm oil (CPO). Sorting and grading FFB are important in order to obtain high quality CPO. Multispecral imaging has been purposed to be implemented in high speed sorting machines due to less wavelength bandwidths used hence less processing time. This study was aimed to evaluate the ripeness levels of oil palm FFB based on relative reflectance intensity and fruit firmness. Multispectral images were acquired using two bandpass filters mounted in a filter wheel with wavelengths of 520 nm and 800 nm respectively. The image acquisition and processing were controlled using python based program. The samples consisted of 30 oil palm FFBs of Tenera varieties with three ripeness levels as unripe, ripe, and overripe. The result showed that the relatif reflectance intensity at wavelength of 520 nm is inversely proportional to the maturity level, on the other hand,  relatif reflectance intensity at wavelength of 800 nm is directly proportional to the maturity level. The relation between the firmness and ripeness level are inversely proportional. Relative reflectance intensity of the multispectral images at the wavelength of 800 nm had a better correlation to the palm fruit firmness than the image at the wavelength of 520 nm with the correlation coefficient (r) of -0.0198 at 520 nm and -0.8594 at 800 nm. it can be shown that the multispectral imaging is potensial to be implemented for FFB ripeness evaluation.

Abstract

At present the determination of weight and volume has been widely used to assist in the process of determining costs for freight forwarding services. Shipping costs are determined by the weight of the goods, but the weight of the goods consists of two types, namely actual weight and volume weight. The weight of the weighing will be used directly if the item or box is small, but if the item is large but the weight is real then the weight of the volume will be used. Algorithms that combine triangulation and 2D measurement techniques can be used to build 3D surfaces so they can measure the volume of a product. Determination of volume in the optical scoring system can be done using the laser triangulation method and the area of 2D image measurement, then using a computer algorithm to get the results of 3D images to determine the volume of the object. The calculation process used in this study uses MATLAB software. MATLAB is the most efficient software for matrix-based numerical calculations and is widely used in mathematical calculations, development and algorithms, programming modeling, prototyping and simulation, data analysis, exploration and visualization, numerical and statistical analysis, and technical application development. The results of the study using MATLAB include students becoming more interested in learning and more independent in learning mathematics, can visualize data graphically to help analyze the data analyzed, and help in modeling the characteristics of variations in fuel mixtures which include density, viscosity, dynamic and kinematic viscosity.

Abstract

Roundness has an important role in terms of dividing the load equally, determining component life, determining adjustment conditions, determining rotation accuracy, and facilitating lubrication. To measure the roundness required a tool that can perform measurements with precision. With a roundness measuring instrument that has an automatic motion control system it will be able to produce more efficient data retrieval and higher accuracy than previous research. The control system in this tool is a system that regulates the automatic movement of the roundness gauge. Where the function of this automatic motion control system is to measure the test object using a chuck as a clamp, the indicator dial is directed by the X and Y axes to the data collection point on the test object which is connected to the driving motor. Axis Y moves in translation to direct the indicator dial on the "arm" to the pick-up point which moves automatically depending on the selected data collection mode, then the indicator dial starts taking measurement data until the measurement data retrieval is complete, then the motor moves from top to bottom, to perform reversible data retrieval. Stepper motor on the chuck will also move. There are 2 mode in this machine, it is mode 1, where the resulting data is in the form of a "ring" and for mode 2, the resulting data is “spiral”. It was found that the translational speed of the screw shaft in the vertical movement is 0.025 m/s and the horizontal linear speed is 0.026 m/s.

Abstract

Buluh Cina Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency has problems with the availability of clean water. The water that residents use comes from dug/drilled wells that smell of sulfur. This water condition is not under the drinking water requirements standardized by the Indonesian Ministry of Health through Permen Kes No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010. There needs to be a solution to overcome the problem of the availability of clean water in Buluh Cina Village. The solution is to install the water filter for clean and healthy water. The Mechanical Engineering Lecturer Team at the University of Riau facilitated the water filter, which would be installed in Buluh Cina Village with a storage tank capacity of ±10,000 liters. Water-filtered results are not smelled of sulfur and are by the drinking water quality standards following Permen Kes No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010.
