Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between saluang fish abundance and phytoplankton abundance. The study was conducted at the rainy and dry season in the Rungan river floodplain, Central Kalimantan. 904 fishes (total weight 6642.5 grams) were caught during the study. 54 species of phytoplankton obtained during sampling, which dominated by Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae groups. Regression analysis showed a significant relationship between Saluang fish abundance and Bacillariophyceae abundance (R2 = 82,7% , p = 0,0001). Phytoplankton of Bacillariophyceae can be used as a good predictor for saluang fish abundance in the Rungan river floodplain.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the diversity of benthic macroinvertebrate in Rungan river floodplains using artificial substrates from palm sugar fibres. Sampling of benthic macroinvertebrate using artificial substrates made from palm sugar fibres which were incubated in waters for 14 days. Benthic macroinvertebrate which colonize in artificial substrate includes 21 species were consist of 19 species of insects class, 1 species of class Oligochaeta, and 1 species was not identified. The diversity of benthic macroinvertebrate in Rungan river floodplains was high with Shannon index (H ') = 3.1482. Evenness index (E) = 0.7243 indicates that benthic macroinvertebrate communities are not dominated by a certain species. Benthic macroinvertebrate communities in Rungan river floodplains were in a healthy condition, so it can support ecological systems in these waters. Key words : Benthic macroinvertebrate, diversity, floodplain, artificial substrat. floodplain.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to select aquatic plants in Sebangau river that has ability to absorb Iron (Fe) from waters. The Concentration of Fe in the roots and leaves of aquatic plants were measured using AAS (atomic absorption spectrophotometer). The results showed that the highest accumulation of Fe was in Hanguana malayana root which reached 36967.93 ± 20951.50 mg/Kg or 3.53 times of Fe concentration in Pandanus helicopus root and 3.26 times of Echinocloa stagnina root. Echinocloa stagnina has the highest Fe transfer factor reaching 0.0224 and has potential for phytoremediation of Fe. Key words : Iron (Fe), Aquatic plants, Sebangau river, peat waters, phytoremediation.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an assessment of the capture fisheries sustainability in the river using multi-indicator analysis with the study area in the Katingan River, Kamipang District, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. The parameters of the capture fisheries sustainability indicators studied include ecological parameters, fishing activities, and socio-economic of fishermen communities. Ecological surveys were conducted to determine the condition of riparian plants, water quality (dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity), diversity of phytoplankton and macrobenthos. Information about fishing activities and socio-economic of fishermen communities were collected directly through interviewing fishermen with questionnaire assistance. 30 respondents were selected from all villages in Kamipang District. The sustainability status of capture fisheries is the combined value of all parameters assessed and weighted according to the important values of each parameter. The results showed that the capture fisheries sustainability in the Katingan River, Kamipang District was in a moderate condition with a score of 2.16 which means it was still sustainable but not in good condition. This study shows that the use of multi-indicator analysis for sustainability assessment of capture fisheries is able to provide an objective assessment of the inland fisheries, so that they can be used as a reference for management policy. Keywords : Katingan River, inland fisheries, sustainability indicator, multi-indicator, limited data.

Abstract

The study aims were to evaluate length-weight relationship (LWR), condition factor, and diet composition of saluang fish (Rasbora argyrotaenia Blkr) in Rungan River Floodplain at dry season and rainy season. This study showed that the coefficient b of the LWR < 3, indicated saluang fish have negative allometric growth. Coefficient b at dry season (1,48) less then at rainy season (b = 2,63), indicated fish grow faster at rainy season. The mean value of condition factor (K) were 1,2776 ± 0,1903 at dry season and 1,1775 ± 0,1077 at rainy season. The mean relative condition factor (Kr) at both season were close to 100, indicated fish was in good condition at both season. Season shift was effect to consumption level of food materials.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a simple, inexpensive and suitable Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) hatchery technology for low-income communities.. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Nile tilapia hatchery in small tarpaulin tanks with different brood fish sex ratios. The study used a completely randomized design with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment of this study was the ratio male-female of Nile tilapia broods, which included A (1:1), B (1:3), and C (1:5). Fish nursery used small tarpaulin tanks measuring 100 x 100 cm and a depth of 50 cm. The results showed that the average production of fry/female brood was significantly affected by the sex ratio of brood fish. The average production of fry/female was highest in the 1:1 ratio treatment (80.67 fry/female), while the treatment of 1:3 ratio (56.0 fish/female) and 1:5 ratio (49.67 fry/female) were not significantly different. The ratio male-female brood of 1:1 is the best for Nile tilapia fry production in small tarpaulin tanks. The condition of water quality in small tarpaulin tanks was still be tolerated by Nile tilapia, but the water quality was not optimal for Nile tilapia spawning. Water temperature ranges from 25 – 33 OC, dissolved oxygen 1.6 – 5.6 mg/L, and pH 5.59 – 7.68. Keywords : Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), sex ratio, brood fish, tarpaulin tank.
