Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to examine the effect of organizational strategy and management accounting innovations (MAI) on cost performance of private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Also, this study investigates the management accounting innovations as mediating variable.Design/Methodology/Approach: This study is quantitative research with a survey approach. This study was conducted by involving HEI located in several provinces in Sumatera Island, Indonesia, covering West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, and Jambi. The research respondents were the head of the HEIs’ finance department. Data analysis utilized Structural Equation Model with Partial Least Square approach (SEM-PLS).Research findings: The results showed that HEI strategy and MAI had a positive direct effect on cost performance. However, management accounting innovations could not be mediating variable.Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study contributes to research areas related to strategy, management accounting innovations, and cost performance in HEI sector.Practitioner/Policy implication: Effectiveness and efficiency in managing HEIs funds requires a strategy and management accounting innovations.Limitation/Implication: The research only included HEIs located in the areas of West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, and Jambi.

Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to examine determinants of strategic management accounting implementation, including market orientation, top management characteristics, strategy, and information technology.Design/Methodology/Approach: This research was conducted in higher education institutions (HEIs) in some areas, covering Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. The research respondents were 368 HEIs leaders. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires, and the hypotheses were tested using the partial least squares method.Research findings: The results revealed that market orientation, top management characteristics, HEIs strategy, and information technology positively affected strategic management accounting implementation.Theoretical contribution/ Originality: This research contributes to determining contingency variables in implementing strategic management accounting in HEIs.

Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to examine the effect of Information Technology (IT) on the performance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Indonesia. Also, this study investigates organizational capability as a mediating variable.Design/Methodology/Approach: This research was conducted at HEIs covering all regions in Indonesia, namely Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusra, and Bali, as well as Papua. The research sample was 368 HEIs. The data were obtained by distributing questionnaires, and hypothesis testing was conducted using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. Research findings: The study revealed that IT positively affected organizational capability and HEI performance. Organizational capability yielded a positive effect on HEI performance. Furthermore, organizational capability mediated the effect of IT on HEI performance.Theoretical contribution/ Originality: This study contributes to the research area dealing with IT, HEIs performance, and organizational capability as a mediating variable. Practitioner/Policy implication: HEI managers should improve their IT resources to enhance organizational capability, thereby improving organizational performance.Limitation/Implication: The limitation of the study is that the data collection only used questionnaires, so the information obtained was not in-depth.
