Abstract

Cavitation is a phenomenon that often occurs in the centrifugal pumps. The impact of cavitation is a decrease in pump performance which will affect the ongoing production process in the industries. It is important to have a method to detect the phenomenon of cavitation early. The vibration signal is a parameter that is often used in detecting cavitation or other faulty components. One of the methods is based on the pattern recognition i.e. machine learning. Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) is a machine learning algorithm that has the advantage of reducing the parameters used into low dimensions without reducing the accuracy of their classification. The study proposes LDA to classify normal conditions, initial cavitation, intermediate cavitation and severe cavitation. The recording of the vibration signal is taken using the an accelerometer mounted on the inlet of the centrifugal pump. The vibration signal is then extracted using 10 statistic parameters of time domain as the LDA feature selection, namely mean, RMS, standard deviation, kurtosis, skewness, crest factor, clearance factor, shape factor, variance and peak value. The results shows that the LDA classifier can detect and classify cavitation conditions with an accuracy rate of 98.8% on training and 99.6% on testing. The shape factor, kurtosis, skewness and RMS parameters are a combination of parameters that have a large contribution to the classifier to detect and classify cavitation conditions. Keywords: Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), cavitation, centrifugal pump, statistical parameter

Abstract

This paper examines the spectrum and envelope spectrum for detection of ball bearing fault using vibration signals taken from a prototype of industrial fan. It presents a procedure to detect fault on the outer and inner race of roller bearing. Three conditions of ball bearing i.e., normal, outer race fault and inner race fault is tested. The artificial fault on the bearing is 2 mm depth and 0,7 mm width. The vibration signals are taken by using an accelerometer mounted on the vertical-radial direction of bearing pillow block. The waveforms are then transformed into spectrum and envelope spectrum. The differences between spectrum and envelope spectrum for both types of faults are analyzed and discussed. The paper explains the effect of amplitude modulation (AM) on the inner race fault to the spectrum and envelope spectrum. The discussion about the ability of spectrum and envelope spectrum for bearing fault detection is presented and compared in detail. The results show that spectrum has good ability for fault detection since it gives clear and high amplitude of bearing fault frequencies. However the spectrum often fails when the size of fault is relatively small, in this case the envelope spectrum gives better results.

Abstract

Pipelines are useful for transporting liquids from one place to another. The main problem that often occurs in pipelines is leakage which results in production and financial losses. The importance of detecting pipeline leaks makes the industries look for effective detection methods to avoid bigger losses. Several previous studies have proven that the vibration-based method is successful in detecting leaks in pipelines. However, the vibration-based method used in the previous study is relatively complicated and requires specialists to interpret the results. This study proposes a machine learning-based detection method that can classify pipe conditions directly without the help of a specialist. The proposed method is vibration-based discriminant analysis; a machine learning algorithm that recognizes pipeline conditions from their vibration pattern instead of spectrum. The proposed method was tested on a test rig consisting of a closed-loop pipeline equipped with a leak-pipe test segment. The vibration signal is taken using an accelerometer placed on the leak-pipe test segment. Time domain vibration data is extracted using several statistical parameters which aims to reveal information related to pipe conditions. The vibration data collected is divided into two groups, namely training-data and testing-data. The discriminant analysis model is trained to recognize the vibration pattern of the pipeline using training-data and then tested using testing-data. There are four leak sizes introduced in this study, small, medium, and large. Meanwhile, normal condition (no leaks) is used as benchmarking. The study shows that the proposed method is effective in classifying four pipe conditions with the accuracy up to 95%.

Abstract

Post-stroke dysarthria (PSD) is a widespread outcome of a stroke. To help in the objective evaluation of dysarthria, the development of pathological voice recognition and technology has a lot of attention. Soft robotics therapy devices have been received as an alternative rehabilitation and hand grasp assistance for improving activity daily living (ADL). Despite the significant progress in this field, most soft robotic therapy devices use a complex, bulky, lack of pathological voice recognition model, large computational power, and stationary controller. This study aims to develop a portable wirelessly multi-controller with a simulated dysarthric vowel speech in Bahasa Indonesia and non-dysarthric micro speech recognition, using tiny machine learning (TinyMl) system for hardware efficiency. The speech interface using INMP441, compute with a lightweight Deep Convolutional Neural network (DCNN) design and embedded into ESP-32. Feature model using Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and fed into CNN. This method has proven useful in micro-speech recognition with low computational power in both speech scenarios with a level of accuracy above 90%. Realtime inference performance on ESP-32 using hand prosthetics, with 3-level household noise intensity respectively 24db,42db, and 62db, and has respectively resulted from 95%, 85%, and 50% Accuracy. Wireless connectivity success rate with both controllers is around 0.2 - 0.5 ms.
