Abstract

Degree adverb merupakan elemen intensifiers sebagai sarana bagi penutur bahasa untuk membuat ucapannya lebih ekspresif. Elemen ini memberikan informasi tentang berapa banyak dan sejauh mana. Setiap adverbial memiliki preferensi sendiri dalam hal kolokasi dan prosodi semantik yang muncul. Penelitian berikut ini membahas pola kolokasional dan prosodi semantik adverbial very, really, quite, dan pretty di Blog Authorship Corpus. Dengan demikian pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan dibantu metode korpus dalam mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data, serta perangkat lunak korpus WordSmith 4.0. Sumber data berasal dari Blog Authorship Corpus, suatu korpus yang belum mengalami proses anotasi, yang dapat dengan mudah diakses melalui situs web. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa semua adverbial bersatu dengan kata-kata dari kelas kata sifat, kata kerja dan kata keterangan. Dalam hal ini, really dan quite terlihat bersebelahan dengan kata kerja, dan pada saat yang sama really juga berkolokasi dengan preposisi dalam kasus tertentu. Kedua jenis adverbial tersebut sebagian besar terjadi pada posisi medial, dibedakan dari kolokasi yang membentuk beberapa pola berbeda. Prosodi semantik yang positif meliputi adverbial very dan quite, sementara prosodi semantik yang netral dan negatif meliputi adverbial pretty dan really.

Abstract

The  Wedhatama,  a  Javanese  literary  work  by  the  King  Mangkunegara IV  contains  philosophical  teachings  which  are  quite  influential  in  ethical life.  This  paper  aims  at discovering the hidden meaning of the teachings which reveal  an  esoteric  knowledge  of  worshipping  in  terms  of  its  semantic  point  of view.  This  meaning  is  known  through  analytic  and  synthetic  propositions  in Gambuh canto associated with 4 different types of worship. Thus, the qualitative paradigm is used in which the data were obtained through library research. In this  study,  the  synthetic  proposition  shows the  breadth  of  the  poet’s  signifying esoteric intention  that  is about Javanese identity of  prayer. It  is  revealed  that the  four  types  of  worship  –sembah  raga,  cipta,  jiwa,  and  rasa  –are  said  to coincide with what are usually referred to in Muslim Sufism as syariat. Keywords: Gambuh canto, the Wedhatama, Javanese identity of prayer, semantic proposition

Abstract

In recent years, it is found that pronoun they and its lemmas are used to refer to singular person to show that the person does not wish to be identified as one of gender binaries. This phenomenon occurs in The Washington Post having added singular they to their stylebook. Therefore this paper aims at elaborating how pronouns they, them, their, theirs, and themselves are used as singular ones in the articles of The Washington Post published in 2016. With the aid of corpus instrument software, this study qualitatively analyses a small corpus consisting of 100 articles. References of pronouns identified as singular are proceeded as the data source of this study and categorized into Crystal’s (2003) main classes of noun and Cobuild’s (2011) classification of indefinite pronoun. The study reveals that The Washington Post used they as singular with the references of proper noun which consists of names of people and organizations, common count concrete noun which consists of nouns denoting persons and a noun denoting things, common count abstract noun consisting of nouns denoting abstract entities, and 6 indefinite pronouns which are used to refer to persons. These references are found mostly to be non-referential, where gender is indefinite. However, some are found to be referential which are common count concrete noun child and proper nouns in the form of names of people. These references refer to individuals who identify themselves not in one of gender binaries, instead they are found to be used in a context regarding LGBT.

Abstract

Abstract. This community service is carried out to find out and revitalize promotional activities in one of the thematic tourist villages in Malang City as well as the fostered partners of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FIB UB), namely Kampung Biru Arema (KBA). Being one of the new tourist destinations, KBA is making efforts to develop tourism potential by increasing online promotion. However, in the process, there are several obstacles such as the need to increase awareness of the local community to jointly promote digital tourism opportunities. Thus, to find out data on how far and what the tourism promotion efforts by the KBA community are, several techniques such as interviews, observation, socialization, training and revitalization were conducted. The results of the activities showed that the promotion carried out by KBA managers was by using social media in the form of Instagram and Youtube. In this case, the results of community service activities can increase the knowledge of the KBA community on the importance of being skilled in managing digital promotions and awareness of the sustainability of tourism promotion and encouraging local communities to create and add tourism products and services.Keywords: Kampung Biru Arema, Social Media, Training, PromotionAbstrak. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui dan merevitalisasi kegiatan promosi salah satu kampung wisata tematik di Kota Malang sekaligus sebagai mitra binaan Fakultas Ilmu Budaya Universitas Brawijaya (FIB UB) yaitu Kampung Biru Arema (KBA). Menjadi salah satu tujuan wisata baru, KBA sedang melakukan usaha untuk mengembangkan potensi wisata dengan meningkatkan promosi secara daring. Akan tetapi, dalam prosesnya, terdapat beberapa kendala seperti perlu ditingkatkannya kesadaran masyarakat setempat untuk ikut bersama-sama mempromosikan peluang wisata secara digital. Dengan demikian, untuk mengetahui data mengenai seberapa jauh dan apa saja usaha promosi wisata oleh masyarakat KBA, beberapa teknik seperti wawancara, observasi, sosialisasi, pelatihan dan revitalisasi dilakukan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa promosi yang dilakukan oleh pengelola KBA yaitu dengan menggunakan sosial media berupa Instagram dan Youtube.  Dalam hal ini, hasil kegiatan pengabdian dapat menimgkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat KBA akan pentingnya terampil dalam pengelolaan promosi digital dan kesadaran atas keberlanjutan promosi wisata serta mendorong masyarakat setempat untuk menciptakan dan menambah produk dan jasa wisata.Kata kunci: Kampung Biru Arema, Media Sosial, Pelatihan, Promosi

Abstract

ABSTRAK Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kampung Biru Arema (KBA) Malang sebagai kelanjutan dari kegiatan pengabdian tahun sebelumnya. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk lebih mempromosikan KBA sebagai salah satu kampung wisata di Malang melalui media blog. Metode yang diterapkan ialah melalui pelatihan penulisan artikel blog untuk memberikan gambaran menarik terkait kampung wisata. Sebagai kelanjutan dari kegiatan tahun lalu, tim pengabdian dapat melihat bahwa media sosial KBA sudah lebih hidup dan lebih berwarna dengan postingan baru. Blog resmi yang telah direvitalisasi pada kegiatan pengabdian kali ini telah mampu mempromosikan KBA dengan lebih baik lagi karena menampung berbagai kegiatan masyarakat kampung wisata ini. Artikel-artikel baru yang ditulis oleh anggota karang taruna KBA juga cukup menarik, sehingga diharapkan para pembaca yang mencari informasi terkait KBA memperoleh lebih banyak informasi. Pada akhirnya, KBA akan semakin dikenal luas dan dapat kembali mendatangkan pengunjung saat situasi pandemi sudah mereda. Kata kunci: blog; kampung wisata tematik; kampung biru arema; promosi; situs web. ABSTRACTThis community service activity was carried out in Kampung Biru Arema (KBA) as a continuation of the previous year’s community service. The purpose was to further promote KBA as one of the thematic tourism kampung in Malang. Updating the content of the website, in this case the KBA blog, was the focus of this year’s agenda. The method used was by giving training to the youth members of KBA to create engaging articles for the official blog. As a continuation of last year’s activity, the community service team has revealed that KBA’s social media is more lively and more colorful with new posts. The official blog which has been revitalized is able to better promote KBA. The new articles written by members of the KBA youth organization (Karang Taruna) are also interesting and engaging, so it is hoped that readers who are looking for information related to KBA will gain more insights about this kampung. Abstract

This study aims at analysing conventional indirectness strategies on request used by British English speakers as shown in spoken British National Corpus (BNC). Conventional indirect strategy is often rated as the most polite expression of politeness. In this case, male and female obviously have different strategies for making the request, which may be influenced by some factors. A qualitative approach was employed to conduct this study since the data are the utterances produced by male and female speakers in spoken BNC. The study revealed that there were 187 utterances that contain Conventional Indirectness Strategies on request used by male and female speakers in spoken BNC. Ability conditions was the strategy of conventional indirect request that mostly used by the male and female speakers. Then, the three factors (i.e. gender, age, and social class) have an effect and significant role on the speaker’s choice of strategies employed by British English speakers. As this study is focused on the indirect request strategies, thus it is suggested to the next researchers who are interested in the same study could be expected to conduct the indirect request strategies by adding more factors.

Abstract

ABSTRAKKegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di PKBM (Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat) Kendedes Kecamatan Lowokwaru Kota Malang. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengembangkan kemampuan literasi kritis peserta Kejar Paket di lembaga ini. Kegiatan ini dianggap sebagai kegiatan peningkatan kemampuan literasi dasar sebagai salah satu upaya percepatan edukasi warga di Malang pada khususnya. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat kali ini difokuskan pada upaya peningkatan literasi kritis sebagi pengembangan kemampuan literasi dasar peserta didik yang mengikuti pendidikan kesetaraan Paket A, B, C agar lebih baik. Dari hasil pelatihan yang diselenggarakan, seluruh peserta pelatihan menunjukkan keseriusannya untuk mengikuti proses pelatihan dari awal sampai akhir dan hasil akhir menunjukkan adanya tingkat literasi yang meningkat dan peningkatan motivasi belajar dari siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, hal ini dapat berpotensi menjadi pilot project untuk pengembangan pelatihan di PKBM lainnya di Malang Raya. Di samping itu, kontribusi kegiatan ini adalah mengembangkan pengetahuan dan daya literasi dan motivasi belajar siswa. Kata kunci: literasi kritis; motivasi; kejar paket; PKBM. ABSTRACTThis community service activity was carried out at the PKBM (Community Learning Activity Center) Kendedes, Lowokwaru District, Malang City. This activity aims to develop the critical literacy skills of Kejar Paket students at this institution. This activity is considered an activity to improve basic literacy skills as an effort to accelerate the education of residents, particularly in Malang. This community service activity is focused on efforts to increase critical literacy as a means of developing the basic literacy skills of students who take part in Equivalency Education Packages A, B, and C to make them better. From the results of the training that had been organized, all participants showed their seriousness in participating in the training process from the beginning of the sessions to the end; moreover, the final results showed an improved literacy level and increased learning motivation from students in the learning process. Thus, this could potentially become a pilot project for developing training at other PKBM in Malang Raya. Apart from that, the contribution of this activity is to develop students’ knowledge, literacy, and learning motivation. Keywords: critical literacy; motivation; kejar paket; PKBM.
