Abstract

Sweet potatoes were potential plants in food diversification for rice substitution. The plants could be found in some areas in Indonesia, such as in Ngawi Regency. The research aimed to find out the variation and morphological distinction in sweet potatoes in Ngawi Regency. The samples were taken randomly in Kedunggalar, Jogorogo, and Bringin Subdistrict. The sweet potatoes were tested with ANAVA and DMRT, Kruskal-Wallis and U-Mann Whitney with significant degree was 5%. There were variation in morphological leaves, storage root, and stems from the eight samples taken. Statistical analysis showed there were vivid distinction in the shape of the leaves, the lobes type, the central lobes, the petiole pigmentation, the colour of stems, the immature leaves colour, the storage roots shape, the dominant skin colour, the dominant flesh colour, and distribution of secondary flesh colour of anthosianine pigment. The variation among sweet potatoes were affected by genetic/ variety distinction and environment factors.

Abstract

The research aimed to find the distribution of fingerprint pattern and the total ridge of students from various ethnis in Madiun. The research was conducted in five Universities in Madiun using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling method. The taking of the fingerprint was conducted by pressing the fingers of each student on the ink pad and the press them on the while paper. The fingerprint patterns were counted by percentage of each pattern and the total ridges of each ethnic were counted by average. The result of the research showed that 10 ethnic had a higher percentage of loop pattern out of 11, they are Javanese (60,4%), Dayak (69%), Flores (50,59%), Batakese (56%), Lampung (90%), Balinese (70%), Mentawai (50%), Banjar (60%), Madurese (100%), and Betawi (70%). Minang ethnic had a higher whorl pattern than other patterns, that is 70%. The highest average of the total ridge could be found in Batakese 196,33 while the lowest average of the total ridge could be found in Madurese 70. It can be concluded that there was different percentage of each pattern and each total ridge in 11 ethnic.

Abstract

Rice plant is very important staple food and has been the main staple food for half of people in the world. Rice is the main commodity and food support in Indonesia. Many efforts to increase rice productivity face some obstacles, such as environmental factor and place. Water supply becomes the main problem in rice planting. Rice plant needs different volume of water for each phase of growing. The research goal is to find the effect of lacking water towards the stomata index, the length of root, and the height of the rice plant of IR64 variety and Ciherang variety. The result of the research concludes that IR64 variety has lower stomata index than Ciherang variety does. IR64 variety has low stomata index because IR64 variety belongs to indica variety that has low transpiration so that it can be planted in dry area. The length of root of IR64 variety is longer than Ciherang variety which supports the variety to be planted in dry area. IR64 variety is 83-88 cm lower than Ciherang variety. Keywords—: stomata index, length of root, height of the plant, rice variety
