Abstract

This project attempts to discover how the worldview of ascetic practice among the Abangans in “Bumi Pertapaan alas Ketonggo-Ngawi-East Java”. This research wants to prove that the worldview of some ascetics maintains that all of their practices in Ketonggo have strong correlation to several spirits, a kind of syncreticism and mysterious realm. The data in this research is collected through participant observation around 5 mounts in two sacral places of Ketonggo forest (Petilasan Brawijaya and Eyang Srigati and Tapa Kungkum in Tempur River). The fi rst phase of the project involves interviewing around 10 pilgrimages who practice the ritual, some native people and central fi gure of Ketonggo forest. This paper concludes that of the ascetic practices both in Petilasan Brawijaya V and Kungkum in Tempur River has strong understanding and correlation to some sacred powers and spirits in the Ketonggo forest. Abstract

This research reveals some perspectives of multi-religious interaction in Sumberjo hamlet concerning the forms of tolerance and the role of the environment. Sumberjo Hamlet exemplifies social awareness in a variety of religious life and has successfully presented social solidarity among distinct traditions of each religious group. There are four major religions living in Sumberjo Hamlet, namely, Islam, Hindu, and Christianity (both Protestantism and Catholics). This research aims at finding the processes of multi-religious interaction in Sumberjo Hamlet, the form of religious tolerance, and the role of the religious environment in building multi-religious tolerance. Conducting a semi-structured interview to the villagers, religious leaders, and village official, the study reaches the following results, firstly, there are three forms of religious tolerance in Sumberjo hamlet, and these three categories are Understanding, Openness, and Respect. Secondly, there are three periods of multi-religious interaction in Sumberjo hamlet, these three periods are: exclusivism, Inclusivism, and Open Integralism,. Thirdly, there are some roles of environment which give contribution in social and individual life: Social consciousness, Social solidarity, and Social humanism

Abstract

This project involves discovering how the spiritually tradition is exist in the pesantren in Indonesia. The goal of this research proves the phenomenon that pesantren and spirituality tradition are strongly linked and connected between each other. Several spiritualities in pesantren are; thoriqoh, tirakat, ijazahan, and others. This article is arranged based on library research and comparing several references by some books, articles and jurnals. Furthermore this research also takes some of experiences of some people who ever study, live, and experience the pesantren tradition in Indonesia (especially in Java). In conclusion, this acticle tries to explore the argumentation historically and socially that Pesantren and spiritualism have strong correlation from the beginning of Islamic spreading in Indonesia.
