Abstract

AbstractThis study was meant to reveal the influence of mind mapping strategy and learning motivation towards reading comprehension on recount text of the eighth grade students of Junior High School 11 of Palembang. In this study 60 students of eighth grade students of Junior High School 11 in the academic year 2017/2018 were chosen as samples by means of two stage random sampling. This study applied factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaire and test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent Sample test, and Two-WayANOVA. The results showed that, first, there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension taught using mind mapping strategy. Second, there was not any significant difference in students’ reading comprehension taught by traditional teaching method. Third, there was significant difference in students’ readingcomprehension students who had high and low learning motivation by using mind mapping strategy and traditional teaching method. Fourth, there were not any significant interaction effects of mind mapping strategy and learning motivation towards the students’ reading comprehension of Junior High School 11 of Palembang.Conclusion suggests that there were significant influences of mind mapping strategy and learning motivation towards reading comprehension on recount text of the eighth grade students of Junior High School 11 of Palembang. In line with, mind mapping strategy was effective to the students who have high and low learning motivation.Keywords: Mind Mapping Strategy, Traditional Teaching Method, Learning Motivation, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

This study dealt with the inquiry of the correlations among vocabulary mastery, reading interest, and reading achievement of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Palembang. The total number of populations were 324 students. The samples for this study were 30 students taken through two stage random sampling technique. Data were collected by adopting questionnaire for reading interest and test for vocabulary and reading achievement. Then, they were analyzed by using r-Product Moment and Multiple Regression. Findings show that there are correlations among vocabulary mastery, reading interest and reading achievement. The data analysis shows that RyX1X2= 0.460 with r2=0.212 and  the criteria of significant test is gotten Fcount. 3.624 > 3.32. Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted while null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In conclusion, vocabulary mastery and reading interest have significant roles to improve reading achievement.Keywords: Correlation, vocabulary, reading interest, reading achievement

Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with the influence Make a Match Method (MAAM), and learning motivation students’ writing achievement on procedure text of the ninth grade of SMPN 13 Palembang. In this study 72 students of ninth grade students of SMPN 13 Palembang in the academic year 2017/2018 as a sample. This study applied factorial research design. Data were collected by using questionnaire and test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent Sample t-test and Two Ways Anova. The results showed that First, there was a significant difference in writingability between the student who have high learning motivation and those who have low learning motivation taught using make a match method (MAAM) of SMPN 13 Palembang. Second, there was a significant difference in writing ability between the students who have high learning motivation and those who have low learning motivation taught using grammar translation method of SMPN 13 Palembang. Third, there was a significant difference in writing ability between the students who have high learning motivation and those who have low learning motivation taught using make a match method (MAAM) and grammar translation method of SMPN 13 Palembang. Last, There were a significant effects of make a match method (MAAM) and learning motivation towards student writing achievement on procedure text of SMPN 13 Palembang. Abstract

AbstractThis article is concerned with the inquiry on the correlations among critical thinking, linguistic intelligence and writing ability. This study is aimed to investigate the empirical evidence about critical thinking and linguistic intelligence and its correlation to writing ability. The population of this study encompassed all the sixth semester students of Department of English Education of FKIP PGRI University of Palembang of which total is 108 students. From the population, only 36 students were taken as the samples. The systematic non-random sampling technique was used in recruiting the samples. Data were collected through tests and questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment and multiple regression to find out the correlations among critical thinking and linguistic intelligence simultaneously on writing ability. Findings showed that there was significant correlation between critical thinking ability and writing ability, and between linguistic intelligence and writing ability. Multiple regression indicates that there were significant influences of critical thinking and linguistic intelligence simultaneously on writing ability. In conclusion, there is significant correlation among critical thinking, linguistic intelligence, and writing ability. At the same time, both critical thinking and linguistic intelligence affect writing ability of the sixth semester students of FKIP PGRI University of Palembang. Keywords: critical thinking, linguistic intelligence, writing ability, correlation, multiple  regression.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the inquiry of  the Influence of Jigsaw Technique and Learning Interest towards Reading Comprehension Achievement of Business Letters on the eleventh Graders of SMK Negeri 3 Palembang. The problem of the study is to investigate the influence of Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method in relation to learning interest towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters. Jigsaw is a collaborative technique to accommodate the students’ reading comprehension. This quantitative study and the data collection are deliberated by adopting pretest, posttest and questionnaire. The data analysis employs paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test and two way analysis of variance. Findings showed  that  there was a significant influence of the application of both Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters  but that  there were not any significant interaction effects of the application of Jigsaw  technique and learning interest towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters. Conclusion suggests that there were significant effects of Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method on students’ reading comprehension achievement.Keywords: Jigsaw technique, learning interest, reading comprehension and business letters

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with The Influence of  Explicit Reading Strategy Instruction (ERSI), Conventional  Teaching and Reading Interest  on The Eleventh Grade Students’ Reading Achievement at PGRI 1of  Vocational High Schoolof Palembang  . The problem of the study is to investigate the influence of explicit strategy instruction, conventional  teaching and students’ reading interest towards  reading  achievement. The total number of populations were 195 students. The sample for this study were 30 students taken through two stage random sampling technique . Data were collected by adopting questionnaire for reading interest and test for ERSI  and reading  achievement. Data were analyzed by using t-test and factorial design (two way anova). Findings show that there are interaction effects  of explicit reading strategy instruction (ERSI), conventional  teaching and students’ reading interest towards  reading  achievement. Conclusion suggests that ERSI  and reading interest have significant roles to improve reading achievement.Keywords: Explicit Reading Strategy Instruction (ERSI), Conventional Teaching, Reading Interest, Reading Achievement.

Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with the influence of debate method, traditional teaching method and students’ learning motivation towards their speaking ability of the first semester of STIE Prabumulih 2017. In this study 60 students of the first semester of STIE Prabmulih 2017 in the academic year of 2017/2018 were chosen as the samples by means of cluster random sampling. This study applied factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaire and t-test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent Sample t-test and Two Way Anova. Theresults showed that, first there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learning motivation taught using debate method. Second there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learningmotivation taught using traditional teaching method. Third there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learning motivation taught using debate method and traditional teaching method. Last, there were not any significant interaction effects of debate method andlearning motivation towards the students’ speaking ability. The Finding suggests that there were significant influences of debate method, traditional method and students’ learning motivation towards their speaking ability of the first semester of STIE Prabumulih 2017.Keywords: Debate Method, Traditional Teaching Method, Learning Motivation, Speaking Ability

Abstract

This research aimed at describing and analysing intrinsic elements and moral values depicted in the movie “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle” directed by Andy Serkis. Content analysis method was used in doing this research. Method of data collecting is by watching the movie, and then the data were analysed by using triangulation: movie, interview and book review. Based on the findings of the study, the intrinsic elements that are participating informing a story of the movie consist of character, setting, plot, theme or statement and subject matter. While there are 7 moral values that can be depicted through the movie. They are love and affection, struggle, kindness, courage, bravery, wisdom and strong believe. The most dominant one is bravery. By Analysing the elements and the moral values of the movie, hopefully will build a good character for students and also will give them inspiration that learning English by watching movie is more enjoyable than learning through book.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman guru-guru SMAN 1 Kandis Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ilir terhadap inovasi pembelajaran melalui pelaksanaan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dan artikel ilmiah.Output yang hendak dicapai setelah guru berpartisipasi dalam pelatihan PTK yaitupeserta diharapkan mampu menyusun hasil PTK dan mempublikasikanya baik di lingkungan sekolah maupun dalam cakupan yang lebih luas, yaitu publikasi pada jurnal ilmiah.Metode pelatihan dilakukan dengan teknik ceramah, tanya jawab, latihan, dan praktik. Materi pokok pelatihan yang disajikan mencakup: (a) PTK, (b) Pembuatan Proposal PTK, dan (c) Pengolahan Data dalam PTK.Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan di Aula SMAN 1Kandis Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ilir.
