Abstract

Tooth erosion is the loss of important dental structure minerals due to continuous acid exposure, due to the low pH and high calories found in soft drinks. Loss of mineral elements in tooth enamel reversible or can still return to normal through the process of remineralization. Adding fluorine, calcium, phosphorus from green tea can increase resistance from remineralization of email toward acids, in other words it can inhibit acid formation by binding to enamel minerals and forming fluorapatite compounds. Objective: To determine the increase of tooth hardness enamel after being soaked with green tea (Camellia Sinensis) toward the teeth soaked with soft drinks using the Vicker Hardness Tester. Research method: This study is a true experimental study with a pre-test and post-test with control group design. The samples of this study were upper premolar teeth adjusted for inclusion criteria. 10 samples were immersed in carbonated drinks for 25 hours, then the samples were divided into two groups, 5 samples were immersed in green tea and the other 5 samples were soaked in artificial saliva for 25 hours. Measurement of tooth hardness using the Vicker Hardness Tester. Results: The data was analysed using paired t-test. Tooth hardness decreased after being soaked with the carbonated drinks (mean = 42.80 with DS = 6.98), then increased after being soaked with green tea (mean = 95.39 with DS = 10.86), p <0.001 also increased in the saliva group (mean = 76.29 with DS = 11.33). Conclusion: There is the effect of immersion with green tea (Camellia sinensis) on the hardness of the enamel surface of the teeth after soaking with soft drinks.

Abstract

The actions of 3G are three motions to maintain oral health: brushing teeth, using mouthwash, andchanging the toothbrush once in 3 months. People have to brush their teeth twice a day in the morning and nightbefore sleeping, using mouthwash, and evolving their toothbrush once in 3 months is the third movement of 3G.These actions can clean teeth from bacteria and viruses. This study aims at analyzing the effectiveness of onlineeducation about the actions of 3G to maintain oral health during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This research is a crosssectionalanalytical study with data collection using a questionnaire conducted online through an electronicquestionnaire form held on June 17, 2021. Respondents in this study were 52 fourth-grade SD Kartika 1-11 Padangstudents selected by purposive sampling technique. The research data were processed with SPSS statistical software.This study reveals education about 3 G increase the knowledge of children about the importance of brushing teeth,using mouthwash, and changing toothbrush once in 3 months, besides the low effectiveness of online educationabout 3 G. This study concludes that online education was not effective to increase respondent's knowledge aboutactions of 3 G to maintain oral health during the Covid 19 pandemic.KEYWORDS: Oral health education, toothbrush, mouthwash, 3G, COVID-19 virus

Abstract

Background : Streptococcus mutans bacteria are the main microorganisms that play an important role in the etiology of caries. Prevention of dental caries can be done by reducing the formation of plaque on the surface of the teeth, one of which is through the use of antibacterial compounds contained in avocado seed extract. Purpose : This study is to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of avocado seed extract in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Methods : This research method is an experimental laboratory with a post-test control group design. The avocado seed extract is made with a maceration technique with the result of a concentration of avocado seed extract of 100% then diluted using aquadest so that avocado seed extract concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% are obtained. The inhibitory test was done by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion on Mueller Hinton Agar. The inhibition zone formed around the disc is measured using a caliper. The data analysis used was the One Way Anova test and continued with the Post Hoc LSD test. Results : The results showed that avocado seed extract at all concentrations can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The largest inhibitory zone diameter at a concentration of 25% with a diameter of 12.25 mm and the diameter of the smallest inhibitory zone at a concentration of 10% at 10.48mm. the results of statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences between the inhibition zones of each avocado seed extract concentration (p<0.05).Conclusions : there is an effect of avocado seed extract (Persea americana Mill.) in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria with extract concentrations of 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%.

Abstract

Bahan cetak alginate digunakan untuk mendapatkan hasil cetakan negatif dari rongga mulut. Bahan cetak ini memiliki sifat imbibisi yaitu menyerap air sehingga dapat mempengaruhi stabilitas dimensi apabila direndam dalam desinfektan.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat efek imbibisi pada bahan cetak alginate yang direndam dalam larutan desinfektan Sodium Hypochlorite.Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental dengan rancangan pretest dan posttest dengan kontrol aquades. Alginate dicetak dengan menggunakan cetakan dengan diameter 28 mm dan tinggi 18 mm. Hasil cetakan alginate direndam dalam larutan sodium hypochlorite 0,5% dan 1% selama 3 menit, 5 menit dan 10 menit. Perhitungan berat imbibisi dilakukan dengan menggunakan timbangan digital.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya imbibisi pada bahan cetak alginate yang direndam larutan Sodium Hypochlorite selama 3 menit, 5 menit dan 10 menit. Uji statistik Two Way Anova Repeated Measure menunjukan perbedaan yang bermakna (p0,05) pada menit imbibisi, sedangkan konsentrasi larutan memiliki perbedaan yang tidak bermakna (p0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahan cetak alginate memiliki efek imbibisi terhadap perendaman dalama larutan Sodium Hypochlorite.
