Abstract

The main issue of this research is how the historical review of Islamic education in Mulnithi Azizstan Madrasa in Pattani-Southern Thailand. This type of research is a descriptive qualitative research that uses phenomenological, pedagogical, and psychological approaches. The researcher took the location in Mulnithi Azizstan Madrasa Pattani South Thailand. The findings showed that the early history of Islamic education in Pattani Thailand began in 1961 in the government of Sarit Tanarat by proposing a modernization program for Islamic boarding schools which was transformed into a private Islamic education school. After that policy, the growth of Islamic boarding schools is increasing rapidly. One of them is the Mulnithi Azizstan Madrasa. The concept of Islamic education institution in Mulnithi Azizstan Madrasa initially used the concept of Suffah in the time of its establishment. At present, the madrasa uses the concept of Halaqah and Majelis as the ways for students to learn. Finally, Mulnithi Azizstan Madrasa changed the learning system into each class.

Abstract

This study aimed to map the form of moral instilling activities, identify the various obstacles teachers face, and determine the teachers' strategies. This research used the qualitative descriptive method. The data sources of this research were the principal, vice-principal, two teachers, and students. The data used were documents and interviews collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed by inductive analysis technique. The results indicated that: 1) there were two forms of activities of moral instilling to students, habituation and exemplary. 2) The obstacles came from various sources such as parents, the community environment, or the students themselves. The obstacles include smartphone usage, lack of discipline, and lack of parental roles. 3) The teachers' strategies in instilling morals in students were direct and indirect approaches. The direct approach could be through speech and deeds, and the indirect approach could be through mentoring. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan bentuk kegiatan penanaman akhlak, mengidentifikasi berbagai kendala yang dihadapi guru, dan menentukan strategi guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah kepala sekolah, wakil kepala sekolah, dua orang guru, dan siswa. Data yang digunakan adalah dokumen dan wawancara yang dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis induktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) terdapat dua bentuk kegiatan penanaman akhlak kepada siswa, yaitu pembiasaan dan keteladanan. 2) Berbagai kendala yang dihadap datang dari berbagai sumber seperti orang tua, lingkungan masyarakat, atau siswa itu sendiri. Kendala tersebut antara lain penggunaan smartphone, kurangnya disiplin, dan kurangnya peran orang tua. 3) Strategi guru dalam menanamkan akhlak pada siswa adalah pendekatan langsung dan tidak langsung. Pendekatan langsung dapat dilakukan melalui ucapan dan perbuatan, dan pendekatan tidak langsung dapat melalui pendampingan.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the transformation of educational civilization, including pesantren education with its traditional characteristics. This study aims to analyze the existence of the DDI Mangkoso Islamic Boarding School as a representation of traditional Islamic educational institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The primary data sources consisted of kiai, ustaz, students, and the community around the DDI Mangkoso Islamic Boarding School. Secondary data sources consist of books, journals, and other relevant scientific works. Data were collected using interview, observation, and documentation methods, then analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the DDI Mangkoso Islamic Boarding School still exists as a traditional Islamic education institution by maintaining five roles, namely (1) transmission of classical Islamic sciences, (2) institute of da'wah, (3) preserver of Islamic tradition, (4) center for reproduction of ulama, and (5) place of community service and development.
