Abstract

Dynamite fishing is one of the causes of damage to the coral reef ecosystem in Indonesia. Fishing activities using explosives (dynamite fishing) occur because of the desire of fishermen to get a lot of catch with low cost in a short time. Kapoposang Water Park (WP) is a region rich in marine biological resources. However, dynamite fishing activities which are still found within the area have caused the coral reef ecosystem to be severely damaged. The results showed a lower difference in the percentage of live coral cover at dynamite fishing locations (DF1, DF2) compared to control locations (K1, K2). In addition, the highest average values of coral fish abundance were found at locations K1, DF1, and DF2. Conversely, the results of the analysis found the lowest fish abundance at the K2 location. Different from the average number of reef fish species that were higher at the control location (K1, K2) compared to dynamite fishing locations (DF1, DF2). For the target fish biomass there is no real difference between the control location and dynamite fishing.

Abstract

Lokasi kontrol memiliki nilai keanekargaman 1,315 dan lokasi tambak  nilai 0,223.ABSTRACTThe conversion of the function of mangrove land into community ponds has caused a process of abrasion and sedimentation that is quite severe, so it is suspected that it causes contamination of the presence of biota on the land, one of which is benthic organisms. Based on a literature review, there was an increase in the area of ponds in the city of Palopo from 815 ha in 2005 to 1,566 ha in 2019. The increase in pond area can have an impact on the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem and the biota associated with mangrove land, especially benthic organisms. The purpose of this study was to determine the condition of benthos biodiversity in the mangrove ecosystem that has been converted into a pond area in Palopo City. The observation location is divided into one mangrove ecosystem area that has been converted into pond land and one mangrove ecosystem area that has not been converted to mangrove land (control). The results showed that higher diversity values were obtained at the control location compared to the pond location. The control location has a diversity value of 1.315 and the location of the pond has a value of 0.223.

Abstract

Abstract. Makassar city is one of the largest cities in Indonesia with a population that continues to increase, reaching 1.65% per year. The increase in population which continues to increase indirectly will have an impact on increasing the amount of waste that will be produced each year. Based on Makassar City Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2015 concerning Makassar City Spatial Planning 2015 – 2034 Untia Village is a center for medium-density housing activities, a center for high-density housing activities, a center for research and higher education services, and a center for maritime activities. This has caused Untia Sub-District to be targeted as one of the sub-districts with a high population in the future. The aim of this training is for the people in Makassar City, especially the Untia Village, to be able to manage their household waste into products with high economic value. So that this training activity has a positive impact on the community and the aquatic environment in the Untia village. The methods used in realizing this community service are presentations and practicum simulations. The results achieved from this training were that several participants were able to make products made from plastic waste (Sofa, Liquid Organic Fertilizer, and Brick) within 6 hours. In addition, the skills in making products that are owned after attending the training can be capital to increase income for the family.

Abstract

Marine debris is a solid material that is disposed of or left in the marine environment by the public either intentionally or unintentionally. The purpose of this study is to identify the abundance and weight of waste (mega and macro) and explain the relationship between current patterns and the distribution of surface waste in the waters of Palopo City. The research was conducted in May-July 2023. Sampling data was collected using Neuston nets installed on both sides of the boat. The results showed that the marine debris found in the waters of Palopo City during high and low tide was dominated by plastic waste. The abundance of plastic waste at high tide is higher than at low tide. The accumulation of scattered surface marine debris is carried away by currents due to the intensity of wind and tides and strengthened by the location of the waters close to the mainland of Palopo City so that marine debris carried by wind and currents tends to the south

Abstract

One of the problems caused by human activities that many cities in the world face is marine debris. The emergence of some problems caused by an increase in the amount of waste is closely related to the increasing needs and human activities as the population increases. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of inorganic waste in the mangrove ecosystem in the Wara Timur and Bara Districts. This research was conducted in April - November 2023 in Wara Timur and Bara Districts. Meanwhile, the analysis of marine debris was carried out at the Marine Laboratory of the Muhammadiyah University of Palopo.  Data collection techniques use the observation method by making a 100 long transect. In each District, 3 observation stations are made. The results of this study indicate that the types of inorganic waste found at the research location are plastic, glass, and cloth waste. Of the various types of waste obtained, plastic is the most common type of waste found in research locations
