Abstract

This paper discusses the body, sexuality, and power relations of women through dangdut koplo music. Dangdut music is actually a Malay crystallization of orchestra that occurs because the people have such a close relationship with the people that represents their aspirations and desires. Therefore, dangdut is in great demand and loved by people in Indonesia. Dangdut identities with a singer; women and gesture (goyangan), make dangdut an attractive arena in the battle about the body, sexuality, and power relations over the body that are owned by singers. A singer can still show the independence of her body instead of being a commodity object. She can make her body the subject. There she is, she alone has the power to control her own body. This can be seen from the saweran incident, which was the relationship between the singer and the audience on the stage who had high bargaining and negotiating methods towards his body.

Abstract

This study examines the various sexist practices on the Internet called cyber sexism. The Internet seems to become a new world for patriarchal domination. The amount of content, comments, and memes circulating on the Internet and social media, such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp harassing women, is proof of the patriarchal power on the Internet. This study used a qualitative method with a feminist perspective, collecting memes through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. The memes were then reviewed and interpreted to find their meaning. Using Pierre Bourdieu’s habitus theory and symbolic violence, memes were analyzed to find the factors that cause sexism against women and the logical link between sexist practices in the real world and cyber sexism on the Internet. Results indicate that people’s habitus about patriarchy has become a mental structure of society that influences stereotyped behavior and gender bias and plays an important role in sexism on the Internet. The Internet, as an arena, has become the initial capital for men to dominate. Naming and mentioning women in various memes are the forms of symbolic violence against them that form new sexist habitus on the Internet.

Abstract

Abstract: Living in a modern world with a variety of traditions, situations and information has made women in Paciran experience dilemma of the self. On the one hand, modernization gives freedom, on the other hand women must be able to maintain the tradition of their identity as konco wingking. This study recounts the efforts of women in Paciran to moderate the tradition of the konco wingking in maintaining their traditions and identity as Javanese women who started out of their homes to mergawe, but still put the house as the place of origin. The impact of this is the selection of women's work which places the house as the place of return. This research was conducted on six female nguplik workers in Paciran, Lamongan, East Java. The results of the study indicate that the konco wingking through the process of moderating tradition, is able to be displayed in different practices. Konco Wingking, which has been understood only as domestic practices, has expanded into public practices.  Abstrak: Hidup dalam dunia modern dengan berbagai persinggungan tradisi, situasi dan informasi telah membuat perempuan di Paciran mengalami dilemma of the self. Abstract

This paper highlights the strategies and efforts of Paciran women in the productive sphere. Even though women have played an important role in the economic life of the household, in fact, they still bear double burdens, they are still burdened and given household responsibilities. This is of course caused by the domination of patriarchal culture which is rooted in society. Women are considered as others who have boundaries, norms, and subordination of women to men in their environment. As a result, the strategy for selecting women's jobs that places the house as the main place is a real effort to reduce the domination of patriarchal culture. This research was conducted on women who work in Nguplik in a village in Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, East Java. Nguplik is the work of separating the shells or skins of cooked crabs from the meat to be sold and processed into food and cosmetics. Nguplik is carried out by individuals and or groups of women. This study uses a qualitative method with a gender anthropological approach, with the data collection process using in-depth interviews and observations. The finding of this study is the acceptance of women as workers.

Abstract

This research focuses on women's efforts in placing themselves in the right position. In the midst of changing times that are so fast and open, women are faced with a feeling of dilemma. On the one hand, women are limited by traditions that always place them in the domestic sphere, which is commonly known as konco wingking. On the other hand, changing times or modernization has given women the freedom to enter the public sphere. Through moderation of the tradition, women in Paciran have managed to get out of their dilemma. They can maintain their traditions and identity as Javanese women and can create new traditions by accepting them as workers. Tradition moderation has also changed the meaning and view of the konco wingking tradition, which so far has only been considered a "place of origin" with its domestic role; macak, masak, manak, but also a "place of return" the tradition that becomes the foothold of women's life in viewing social reality; community, and family. This research was conducted on women working nguplik in a village in Paciran, Lamongan, East Java. Nguplik is the job of separating the ripe crab shell or skin from the meat to be sold and processed into food and cosmetics. Nguplik is carried out by individuals and or a group of women. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach, with the data collection process using interviews and observations. To analyze the data we used the theory of cultural sociology. The finding of this research is the acceptance of women as workers.

Abstract

The movements carried out by women for gender justice and the elimination of violence against women in Indonesia have not only changed women's perspective on efforts to fight women against the violence that occurred to them but have also inspired some men and produced new perspectives. Seeing themselves and growing new awareness about their need to be actively involved in the movement against violence against women. This study uses a qualitative method with a literacy study approach regarding men's involvement in gender equality efforts, using the theory of hegemonic masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity is used to criticize the male sex role. Sources of data used are secondary data, such as scientific articles, reference books, journal publications, websites, and other sources relevant to the topic of study. Furthermore, data were collected, grouped, analyzed, and interpreted using the perspective of gender and feminism to describe results and research discussions. This paper tries to explain that gender inequality or even violence against women is difficult to fight if there is no collaboration from various parties, one of which is men; men are at the root of the problem of violence against women, so they must also be part of solving the problem.

Abstract

This paper tries to see the relationship between women and the mosque. The mosque, which should be a place that is freely accessible to all Muslims regardless of gender, has so far been dominated by men, both in terms of daily activities (worship) and incidental ones. This paper uses a qualitative method. The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted using the perspective of gender and feminism. As a social space (besides the worship space) the mosque is in fact still gender biased. We can see this from mosque facilities that are less sensitive to the presence of women, for example, the absence of a place for ablution for women, places for women’s prayers that are less representative, and also the structure of mosque management or mosque takmir which is still dominated by men. Of course, this is due to several factors, such as misinterpretation of the role of women, and the lack of gender awareness in mosque management. In fact, we know that besides being a place of worship, mosques are the best space for building social relations, accessing information, and empowering the community.
