Abstract

The objective of this research was to estimate genetic parameters such as variability, heritability, various agronomic characters in tomato population through crossbreeding FI. Research was arranged experimentally using Randomized Block Design (RBD) consists of 13 tomato genotypes from crosses with 3 replications were placed haphazardly. Seedlings were transplanted to a plot with a size of 1 m x 5 m with a spacing of 50 cm x 50 centimeter. Each plot treatment plant sample taken as many as 10 plants of 20 tomato plants for plant height, stalk diameter, weight per fruit, fruit length, thick fruit pulp, fruit diameter, total fruit number per plant and total fruit weight per plant. Analysis of variation was later translated into genetic parameters with Griffing method IV models. The outcomes indicated that the genotype of Champions can be chosen as one of the hybrid parents because it delivers a sound value to improve the character of days to flowering, stem diameter, harvesting, thick fruit pulp, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, and total fruit weight per plant. Genotype T78x1, T13x1, T3x13 and T1x13 has a value corresponding to improve the role of stem diameter, days to flowering, and weight per fruit. Characters that have a high heritability with criteria that plant height, flower age, harvesting, planting fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, weight per fruit, fruit number and length of the cavity are positively correlated with total fruit weight per plant. Abstract

The objective of this research were to estimate genetic parameters such as variability, heritability, general combining ability (GCA), and specific combining ability (SCA),  of various agronomic traits in chili population through diallel cross. The research was arranged in a randomized complete block design in which 15 hybrids genotypes created by half diallel cross were evaluated with three replications. Seedlings of twenty eight days old was transplanted to a plot of 1 m x 5 m with planting space of 50 x 50 cm. Ten samples were chosen from each plot to obtain  plant height, height of stem dichotomous, weight per fruit, fruit length, fruit rind thickness, fruit diameter and fruit weight per plant. Data analyses were performed by analyses of variance and then translated to genetic parameters following the Griffing’s methods model IV. The results indicated that the value of GCA and SCA were significant for several characters but not for others. Due to its suitable GCA value, one genotype such as C5 may be selected as one parent to improve agronomic characters such as hastening days to flower and harvest,  increased stem diameter,  thick fruit pulp, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, and fruit weight per plant. Genotypes C120xC5 and C111xC19 may be utilized to improve stem diameter, thick fruit pulp, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, and fruit weight per plant. Heritability were significant for stem height,  dichotomous, stem diameter, fruit length, fruit flesh thickness, fruit diameter, total number of fruits per plant, and fruit weight per plant. Fruit rind thickness, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, and total number of fruits per plant was positively correlated to total fruit weight per plant.   Keywords  : Chili breeding, variability, heritability, combining ability

Abstract

Tomato is one of the leading agricultural commodity that has a good prospect in marketing. It showed by a high demand for this commodity but not balanced with the supply because the productivity is still low especially at the lowland. To overcome this problem, plant breeder must strive to assemble new varieties suitable for cultivation in the lowland. This study aims to examine the growth and yield some tomatoes genotype grown in the lowlands. This study lasted from October 2012 to March 2013 at the experimental farm, Agriculture Faculty, University of Riau. This study arranged experimentally using Randomized Block Design (RBD) consist by 6 treatments and 3 replications. Genotype that used are 2201-5 IPB-8b, IPB-6-8 T43, T53-IPB and IPB 3-3 T65-6. Comparation varieties used are Intan and Karina. The parameters measured were plant height, stem diameter, flowering date, harvesting date, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of fruit cavities, fruit flesh thickness and seed number. The results showed that the strains significantly affect the parameters of the study (flowering date, maturity, plant height, stem diameter, fruit flesh thickness, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of fruit cavities, total fruit weight per plant and number of seeds per gram). IPBT43-6-8 strain has a total weight of fruit cropping highest (777.1 g), but not significantly different from the weight of the total fruit crop IPBT53-3 (655.9 g) and IPBT65-6 (605.5 g). Three strains have a total weight of fruit crop was significantly higher compared with the Intan variety (404.9 g) and Karina (208.6 g).   Keywords: tomato, lowland, yield potential evaluation.
