Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate the effect of think pair square and think pair share strategy on students’ speakingskill of describing things viewed from students’ motivation. This research employed 2 x 2 factorial design and involved the studentsof SMK YPM Zain Pauh Kambar, Padang Pariaman. The samples were chosen by using purposive sampling. The data were gainedthrough speaking test and analysed by using appropriate quantitative methods. The result of the research showed that think pairsquare and think pair share strategy were able to improve students’ speaking skill. There was an interaction between teachingstrategy and students’ motivation of speaking skill. Hence, it can be concluded that these two strategies can be used as alternativestrategies to enhance students’ speaking skill, and that they can enrich students’ experience to do other cooperative learningstrategies.

Abstract

The Padang City Government creates Pesantren Ramadhan activities as a media for fostering faith and devotion in forming character society. This article aims to analyze the role of students' religious attitudes after participating in Pesantren Ramadhan by analyzing applied learning patterns. This study used a descriptive analytical approach. The data derived from interviews and observations. The results of this study showed that: (1) Pesantren Ramadhan has been carried out for 12 times activities and has an impact on the way students behave in daily life and the application of religious practices is applied in a sustainable manner (2) Knowledge, belief, and understanding of religion become stimulation in increasing religious attitudes (3) The Padang City Government makes Pesantren Ramadhan as a media in forming the character of the young generation in order to have a noble character. Abstract

English is a compulsory subject that must be studied by all students, including students of Islamic Banking. Various efforts have been made by the lecturers so that the learning of English is interesting and attractive to students, including designing learning for the specific purposes (English for Specific Purposes). However, students are still having difficulties and have not had a good output after learning it. In addition, the material provided seemed unattractive to students. It was because of the material provided is not based on students’ needs. This research is a descriptive research by using a qualitative approach to see students' needs for English.The data was taken in the form of qualitative data, the utterances from interviews with respondents. In addition, quantitative data was taken from questionnaires distributed to Islamic Banking students related to the needs analysis of the English syllabus. The questionnaire consisted of learning need which was divided into input, procedure, setting, teacher's role, and learners' role. From the results of the research, it was found that students have their own learning needs for the material taught to them. Their learning needs must be realized in the learning plan in order to the goals of English can be achieved well. Keywords: Learning Need, Need Analysis, ESP

Abstract

This study was done due to the lack of motivation of students in SMKN Baso to write. One of the media used to increase students’ motivation is blogging. The design of this research was experimental research. The data was obtained through a questionnaire. The populations of this research were the second-grade students at SMKN 1Baso academic years 2019/2020 consisting of 174 students. To determine the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling by choosing two classes, they were XI Perkantoran 1 and XI Perkantoran 2. XI Perkantoran 1 was treated as a control class that applies with conventional media in writing while XI Perkantoran 2 was treated as an experimental class that applies blog in writing. To analyze the data collected, the researcher used the t-test formula to test the hypothesis and consult the result into t-table with level significance α = 0,05. Based on the result of the research, the mean score of the questionnaire after giving the treatment of the experimental class was 72,28 was higher than the mean score of the control class was 65,85. Then it was analyzed by using t-test and the result of t-obtained was 4,47 with the degree of freedom 39 and the level significance α = 0,05. Through comparing the t-obtained (4,47) to t-table (2,042) on the same degree of freedom and level significance, it was found that the value of t-obtained was higher than the value of t-table. Thus the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted which stated using a blog gives a better effect on students’ motivation to write analytical exposition text.

Abstract

Learning is interpreted as a process of obtaining behavioral changes as a result of getting knowledge and experience in doing interaction with the environment. The problem found in Islamic Elementery School 1 Pasaman (MIN 1 Pasaman) was the way the teacher tought the students and the teacher never create the innovative environment to make the students to be able to construct their ideas in learning. The teachers were still not familiar with the name and the application of constructive innovative learning models in order to create the fun learning for the students. The situation impacts to the student’s development and achievement during teaching and learning process. It leads the team to do the community service research to the application of constructive - innovative models to improve the quality of teaching and learning in MIN 1 Pasaman. The result of this community service shown that the teachers already able to comprehend the constructive -inovative learning model in teaching and learning process, and the teacher can apply various types of learning model as well as able to design a good lesson plan about constructive and innovative model in the classroom.Belajar diartikan sebagai proses perubahan perilaku sebagai hasil dari mendapatkan pengetahuan dan pengalaman dalam melakukan interaksi dengan lingkungan. Masalah yang ditemukan di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah 1 Pasaman (MIN 1 Pasaman) adalah cara guru mengajar siswa dan guru tidak pernah menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang inovatif untuk membuat siswa dapat membangun ide-ide mereka dalam belajar. Para guru masih belum tahu dengan nama dan juga cara menerapkan dengan model pembelajaran konstruktif- inovatif agar pembelajaran menyenangkan bagi siswa. Situasi ini berdampak pada perkembangan dan prestasi siswa selama proses belajar mengajar. Keadaan ini mengarahkan tim untuk melakukan penelitian pengabdian masyarakat pada penerapan model inovatif - konstruktif untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran dan pembelajaran di MIN 1 Pasaman. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa para guru sudah mampu memahami model pembelajaran konstruktif-inovatif dalam proses belajar mengajar, dan guru dapat menerapkan berbagai jenis model pembelajaran yang konstruktif serta mampu merancang rencana pembelajaran yang konstruktif dan inovatif di kelas.Kata Kunci: pembelajaran, konstruktif- innovative, model

Abstract

West Sumatra as the basis of religious movements in Indonesia is fertile ground for the birth of radical understanding. This also has an impact on the survival of the Minangkabau people who prioritize tolerance in their daily lives. One of the local wisdom of the Minangkabau people and included in the ranks of government is Bundo Kanduang. According to Bundo Kanduang, this radicalism understanding is very contrary to the doctrine of the Minangkabau which bases on Adat Basandi Syara’ Syarak Basandi Kitabullah so that intolerant does not have space to be developed in West Sumatra. This research is a descriptive qualitative analysis research that explores and explains about Bundo Kanduang public leadership in overcoming the Radical Movement in West Sumatra. In this research, it was found that the efforts made by Bundo Kanduang were 1. Become an agent of peace in the community. 2. Actively providing counseling and guidance in cyberspace and the real world about the dangers of radical understanding to the young generation. 3. Synergism Bundo Kanduang’s role in Minangkabau to maintain children’ nationality  and integrity.

Abstract

Despite their designation as students of the English Education Department who are meant to teach English to others, many of these students rarely use English both inside and outside the classroom. This phenomenon’s prevalence in Indonesia makes students unaware of their mistakes when using English. The purpose of this study is to analyze the language awareness of sixth-semester students through the five language awareness domain to provide insight into the importance of language awareness in the classroom, especially for students of this particular type of department. This study used random sampling and using a questionnaire with fifteen items collected from 108 responses. This analyzed their language awareness through the five domains of language awareness, namely the affective, social, power, cognitive, and performance domains. Results showed that 86.67% of students had the affective domain from the social domain was 81.62%, from the power domain was 73.13%, from the cognitive domain was 75.96%, and from the performance domain was 65.86%. The overall value of the five domains is 76.65% showed that students have good language awareness. It means language awareness of students IS pretty good inside the classroom.

Abstract

This research was done because most of the students of Junior High School students still encounter problems in mastering English especialy reading comprehension in recount text. This research used experimental research. The researcher used a quasi experimental design by using the pre-test and post-test control group design. The population of this research was the eight grade students at SMPN 2 Kamang Magek. The sample was VIII.1 which was treated as experimental class and taught by using THIEVES strategy and VIII.2 was treated as control class and taught by using conventional strategy.The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that there is significant difference between using THIEVES strategy and conventional strategy. Then t-obtained both of classes in third hypothesis is (2.24) which was higher than t-table (1.6787) with (α)= 0,05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which means that THIEVES strategy is better than conventional strategy  in teaching reading comprehension on recount  text. So, it can be concluded that the entire hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out: (1) The category of student learning attitudes towards learning English (positive or negative), (2) To know the outcome of students in learning English, (3) To know whether there was a relationship between learning attitudes toward the student's value in learning English. The method that used in this research was descriptive quantitative. The Sample in this study was all the grade 11 students at MTI Koto Tinggi in academic year of 2019/2020. Sampling technique in this research was saturation sampling. The data collection techniques in this study were questionnaire and documentation. Data analysis technique was using SPSS version 20 program. Third the relationship between students ' learning attitudes toward the value gained in English learning, the results were known about correlation was the R-Count (0643) was greater than R-table (0361). It can be concluded that there was a relationship between student learning attitudes toward student grades.

Abstract

This study found that the activities of Pesantren Ramadhan which had been carried out for about 12 times gave positive meaning for high school students in Padang city. One of them is increasing of students' religious attitudes from daily worship like continuous dhuha prayer, fasting every Monday and Thursday, motivation to memorize the Koran and various other religious activities. The theory of someone’s religious diversity is influenced by knowledge, beliefs, implementation of worship, and appreciation of the religion they embrace. The higher a person's knowledge of religion, the higher the level of religious diversity they have. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative, which describes the behavior of students after attending the Pesantren Ramadhan then analyzed the material of the Islamic boarding school to be realized in daily life.
