Abstract

Biak Island is thought to have originated from the Australian Continental passive margin in the Mesozoic. This passive margin underwent tectonic collision to form the bedrock of Biak Island during the Paleogene. East Biak is covered by limestone, which is an obstacle to knowing the deeper stratigraphy. This study's aim was to identify the subsurface geology of the East Biak area based on rock resistivity values. Magnetotelluric (MT) surveying is a passive geophysical method that is able to interpret subsurface geology based on rock resistivity values at depths of up to 5 to 10 km. The MT measurements in East Biak used 25 measurement points. Cross-sectional variations in rock resistivity values generated from the MT measurements were used to identify rock types in the East Biak subsurface. Five rock units were identified. The East Biak stratigraphy model is dominated by carbonates, comprising two sequences, i.e. an Early Neogene sequence with a thickness of 1,000 to 3,000 m and a Late Neogene to Quaternary sequence with a thickness of 180 to 2,450 m. The unconformity between these two sequences is due to tectonic activity, which separated Supiori and Biak Island.

Abstract

Sukajaya Lempasing is one of the villages located in Teluk Pandan District, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province. Sukajaya Lempasing Village was chosen as a place for research because of its position on the east coast which is directly adjacent to Lampung Bay, of which its groundwater is suspected to be contaminated by seawater, causing the water to be brackish. Field observation, data collection, as well as lithology and air control are needed to see the geological and hydrogeological conditions of this area. Based on the physical and chemical parameters, the well of Hamlet 7 has groundwater and there is no indication of sea water intrusion because the area is very close to hills which may become a catchment area so that groundwater flows out to sea with high pressure. Based on the salinity, TDS, and conductivity values obtained, the well that experienced seawater intrusion was the AJR3 well because it is located closest to the coastline and is supported by an alluvial sediment aquifer that has moderate to high aquifer productivity. The quality of water based on physical parameter data from wells in Hamlet 1, Hamlet 7 and sample AJR4 Hamlet 3 is classified as clean and suitable for daily use. The lithology in the form of alluvial deposits allows seawater intrusion, especially in areas close to the shoreline such as the AJR3 well.

Abstract

Bengkulu basin is the one of fore arc basin which formed in Sumatra island. The basin formation is inseparable from tectonic activity of the Sumatra Island from the Pre-Tertiary era to present day. The relationship between tectonic activities and the basin filling can be identified by conducting a provenance study on the sedimentary rocks. The Simpangaur Formation is a Tertiary sedimentary rock that has filled the Bengkulu Basin in the southern Sumatra. The aim of this research is determining the provenance of Simpangaur Formation existed in Way Krui area, Lampung, and its tectonic environment. The observations of thin section were carried out on eleven sedimentary rock samples obtained from field. The provenance of these rocks is analyzed by quantifying the mineral composition microscopically. The result analysis show that the grains originated from a magmatic arc environment, specifically the transitional arc and undissected arc. Based on the presence of polycrystalline quartz in eleven rock samples, it is interpreted as originating from the Orogen Arc. In addition, it is also interpreted that the provenance for sandstone samples of the Simpangaur Formation are plutonic and metamorphic rocks in a semi-arid climate, based on ancient climate.
