Kemuning (Murraya paniculata L) is a shrub growing in tropical climates and wildly in bushland or forest. The local people of Serawai ethnicin Bengkulu often use kemuning leaves as a traditional medicine for asthma disease. . This study aims to analyze the potential and benefits of Kemuning (Muraya paniculata L) leaves as a traditional medicine forasthma disease. This research is a descriptive study by using interview method with Snow ball sampling techniques. The results showed that Murraya paniculata leaves have been empirically proven to treat asthma in Serawai tribe community. The leaves are processed by squeezing, filtering, then drinking or smearing it on the chest. The presence of flavonoids in Murraya paniculata leaves thought have the effect of reducing asthma. Murraya paniculata  leaves have potential to be developed as an asthma medicine, but further research is needed before using in the pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity of microalgae and their relationship with water quality in the Air Lais River. The method used is a survey method. The results showed that there were 28 species of microalgae consisting of 7 divisions. The abundance of microalgae at the upstream station was 52 ind/ml, the middle station was 50 ind/ml and the downstream station was 115 ind/ml. The microalgae diversity index at each station was 2.2; 2.2; and 2.59, with a moderate level of diversity criteria. The microalgae dominance index was in the low dominance criteria, with the value of each station being 0.21; 0.20; and 0.14. In conclusion, the condition of the Air Lais River is still relatively clean and shows a normal tolerance range for microalgae life. Keywords: Diversity, Microalgae, Lais Water River

Abstract

The sources of clean water is very important for everyone to support their life needs. However, Talang Tinggi Village, Seluma Regency has poor water supply conditions, indicated by the physical condition of the water which smells, the color is brown, and has sediment. This condition is getting worse because the source of water will be mixed with soil and mud. Talang Tinggi village does not have PDAM access yet, so the need for clean water only relies on natural water sources, swamp water and well water. This community service aims to overcome the problem of water resources in Talang Tinggi Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province by utilizing coconut fiber waste, as a filter media in the Slow Sand Filtration method. The results of the activity showed that there was a very significant improvement in water quality. The water that was cloudy and smelled becomes clearer and odorless. The value of acidity (pH) of the water sample also increased from 6.05-7.38 to 6.5-9.0. These results indicate that coconut fiber, which has been considered as waste, can be used to an effective filter for cleaning water.
