Abstract

The aimed of this research was to know the causes of pronunciation errors made by the students and whether the method of learning English prounciation using song can improve the student’s pronouncing English words at SMAN 8 Bengkulu. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive. The informants in this research were students from X IPS 1 Data collection is done by interview and quistionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed by reduction of data, presentation of data, and drawing conclusions.The research results show that most of studens of X IPS 1 more interested and understanding if learning English pronunciation using songs because they can follow a native speaker to say English words correctly. The causes error of their English pronunciation is a lack of their confidence when they speaking English and the media can also be an easy or difficult factor for students to learning English pronunciation. It can be concluded that is the right media for students English pronunciation.

Abstract

Nowadays, information and communication technology has been growing rapidly. It is used widely in all sectors in the world. In education, ICT has the important role to faster the development of knowledge. But, we should realize that there are still many regions in Indonesia which the application of ICT is not available yet. This paper examines the ways of English teachers used in teaching and learning English in term of ICT implementation especially in two rural areas of Indonesia. This paper also argues some creative and innovative ways that can be practiced in each of those areas. This paper through qualitative approach finds out that the applying of ICT or technology in teaching and learning English cannot be the same for all regions including urban, rural, and remote areas. It can be practiced differently based on the condition of the area. So, the teacher should know the creative and innovative ways of ICT implementation in teaching and learning English.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was designed: (1) to find out a significant progress on the English speaking skill of students’ Economics using Internet reading materials. (2) to find out a significant effect by using visual and auditory learning style toward English Speaking Skill. (3) to know an interaction effect between Group Investigation Model and learning style toward English speaking skill. Quasi-experimental research 2 x 2 factorial design used in this research, and all the computational procedure were run by using SPSS. The results showed that, 1) there was a significant progress of students’ Englsih Speaking skill after given Group Investigation Model, 2) there was the effect of learning style to the students’ English speaking skills, 3) there was an interaction effect between the use of Group Investigation Model to the reading materials from the multimedia and learning styles on speaking competence.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out and describe the improvement in writing skills through the Experience-based Learning Approach. The method of this research was classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was students of the 4th semester of English Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of UNIHAZ 2016/2017. The research instruments were the observation sheet, interview guidelines, questionnaire and test form. Based on the results of data analysis of pre-test and post-test shown the significant improvement. The student average increased by 13.7 points with an increase of 20%. Meanwhile, from cycle I to cycle II, the average writing ability of students increased by 2.4 points with a percentage increase of 80%. Based on the learning activities which have occurred the enhancing from the first to second cycles from this research findings, it showed that LEA could improve the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

Nowadays, people are expected to be able to write and literate. As one of the important skills in language learning, writing has been considered as an important role in all aspects of life. In order to help our students having a good skill in writing, the use of technology is chosen to be integrated in the learning process. And Blogging is one of the activity that can be used to motivate the students to write actively and constructively. By using blog, teachers can help students to write constructively, promote student’s autonomy and enhance their motivation.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out whether or not there is any significant correlation between reading and writing skills at Informatics Program University of Bina Insan in Academic Year of 2020/2021. The problem is there any significant correlation between students’ reading skill and their writing skill at Informatics Program University of Bina Insan in Academic Year of 2020/2021?. There were two hypotheses in this study, null hypothesis (Ho) is stated that there is no significant correlation between the first students’ reading skill and writing skill at Informatics Program University of Bina Insan the Academic Year of 2020/2021 (robtained<rtable) and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is states that there’s significant correlation between the first students’ reading and writing skills at Informatics Program University of Bina insan Academic Year of 2020/2021 (robtained<rtable). In this study, descriptive correlation method was used. The population of this study was the first students at Informatics Program University of Bina Insan Academic Year of 2020/2021. The sample of this study was all class which consisted of 34 students. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling. In order to collect the data, the documentation was used. To analyze the data, the Pearson Product Moment formula was applied. The result of this research was 0.473. While, critical value of rtable was 0.349 at the level of significant 0.05 or 95% in two tailed test. It indicated that there was moderate correlation. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there was moderate correlation between students’ reading and writing skills at Informatics Program University of Bina in Academic Year of 2020/2021.

Abstract

Although reading has been learned by students since they start to learn the English language but it still becomes the most difficult skill to be acquired than speaking, writing, and listening. It is a possibility caused by the students have a limitation of knowledge about reading roles, different learning styles, lazy to read, and low motivation for effective reading because of a too-long passage and different types of text. Therefore, students must be serious to acquire this skill. In this article, the writers would like to introduce a suitable approach for teaching reading using mind mapping techniques. The results of the data, the researcher concludes that the students’ have some difficulties in identifying reading skills and understanding the mind mapping, many of the students have difficulties in this factor because the result shows a high number of percentage give the answer very not good and not good. The last is the result of learning English, most of the students have enough understood about teaching and learning English. After reading this article, the writer expects that this article can help English teachers to apply suitable approach for teaching reading of English texts.

Abstract

Although the online English learning platform currently is interesting and entertaining and it can improve language acquisition, pronunciation, four integrated skills but it still becomes difficult to be used in English learning. Therefore, people must be mastering high technology to support their daily life and get much information instantly and accurately. In this article, the writer would like to introduce a suitable platform in English learning. English is considered as an international language (EIL) and the purpose is to facilitate communication of ideas, thoughts, feelings, knowledge, and culture, the language is a medium. Moreover, English can be taught by using Memrise Application in order to encourage students to learn English. train students in Communicative Competence and optimize the effectiveness of English Language Teaching. After reading this article, the writer expects that this article can help English teachers to apply this platform for English teaching in Indonesia. For this reason, teachers need to develop strategies that are appropriate to the characteristics of millennial students and be able to make it reach the competencies specified in the learning objectives. In this case, the use of media is also needed in innovative learning. Innovative learning using learning strategies and the use of media is very important to create effective English language learning, especially the current COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Abstract

The researcher found that the students still had difficulties in finding character value, problem and difficulties with previous knowledge and metacognition in preliminary research. Therefore, objective of this research is to identify the factors that cause students’ difficulties in finding character value of narrative text. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was students of XI MA Muhammadiyah Bengkulu, who had the lowest score in preliminary research. The technique of collecting data was by analyzing interview and giving questionnaire to the students. The result showed the factors that causes students’ difficulties in finding character value were exception in the decoding process, previous knowledge, motivation or perseverance, high level cognitive skills and metacognition. Based on the result of questionnaire, it can be concluded that most of students were fluent because they often read narrative text, so they can read the text in English easily. Then, most of students had problem in their previous knowledge, so they felt difficult to determine the character value. Although most of students do not have problems in motivation or perseverance because they like to read narrative text, they do not know how to find the character value in narrative text because they do not understand the story, so they felt difficult to determine the character value. Furthermore, most of students have problems in their metacognition, because they must read the narrative text repeatedly to determine the character value. In short, they must summarize the narrative text to determine the character value, because they felt difficult to determine the character value if they do not summarize the text.

Abstract

Abstract The objective of this research was to gain a deep understanding of the educational values in Tere Liye's novel, Hujan. This novel, Hujan, served as the basis for the research. The novel's educational values served as the research's data. The research method was descriptive qualitative. According to the study, Tere Liye's novel Hujan reflects educational values for his readers in the following ways: first, the moral value of education: always help, perseverance, and responsibility. Second, there is the value of social education in terms of humanity, caring, and empathy. Third, there is the value of cultural education in terms of mutual cooperation, obedient rules, and mutual respect. Tere Liye's Hujan was suggested as an alternative to literary teaching materials in high school.
