Abstract

Reading is the foundation that supports the success of academic achievement and hence it should be given top priority. The objective of this study was to find out the influence of using SQP2RS strategy towards students’ reading comprehension. This study was a pre experiment research using one-group pretest – posttest design. The sample of this study consisted of 38 students of XI Science grade of SMA N 2 Ambon, which was selected purposely. The data was collected by using an essay test and analysed statically. The results showed there was a positive and significant influence of using SQP2RS strategy toward students reading comprehension

Abstract

Reading is an essential skill for learners in order to ensure their success not only in learning English, but also in learning in any content class. This study aimed at identifying types of students’ reading strategies, challenges during the implementation of those strategies and solutions in maximizing the implementation those strategies. This study was a survey research conducted at SMA Katolik Yos Sudarso Dobo. The data were collected by using questionnaire, which was distributed to the respondents consisting of 60 students and were analyzed by using descriptive statistic. The result of the study showed that: 1) 34 students or 56,70% strongly agree that efficiency of silent reading strategies was the most dominant reading strategy used by them; 2) 40 students or 66,7% strongly agree that they find it difficult to understand the sentence in the English text; 3) 34 students or 56,70% strongly agree that they think about the information that is in the text into Indonesian when reading. The results of the study above reveals that reading proficiency plays a great role in understanding a written statement accurately and efficiency. Therefore, teachers should provide students with several of reading strategies that can help them to comprehend the text.

Abstract

This study explores the transformative potential of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning strategy in enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. Through two carefully executed cycles, the study delves into the dynamic interplay between educators and students and its impact on the learning landscape. Drawing from constructivist principles, the CIRC strategy emphasizes collaborative discourse and active knowledge construction, fostering cognitive and affective growth. The research reveals a significant shift in student engagement, with average scores climbing from 3.37 to 4.12 across cycles, substantiating the strategy's efficacy in promoting meaningful learning experiences. Furthermore, applying the CIRC strategy demonstrated a notable increase in post-test scores, from 69.64 to 75.04, along with a rise in the proportion of students mastering the subject matter, from 60% to 80%. While the strategy boasts transformative potential, its implementation challenges include time investment and creating conducive group discussion environments. This study underscores the importance of dynamic learning approaches that empower students to actively construct knowledge and apply it in real-world contexts, reinforcing the role of educators in catalyzing this evolution. The CIRC strategy is powerful in bridging theory and practice, offering a holistic educational experience that resonates far beyond the classroom.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 telah berdampak signifikan pada pendidikan, termasuk di Indonesia, di mana sekolah dan universitas ditutup untuk memastikan keselamatan. Seiring dengan munculnya pembelajaran online sebagai mode utama pendidikan, pentingnya kemampuan berbahasa Inggris di era "new normal" menjadi jelas. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peluang penggunaan TikTok, platform media sosial populer, sebagai alat pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara online bagi siswa SMA di Indonesia. Desain penelitian perpustakaan digunakan untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis literatur yang ada tentang subjek ini. Temuan menyoroti konsep pembelajaran online, peran media sosial, dan peluang serta tantangan dalam menggunakan TikTok untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Makalah ini menyimpulkan dengan menekankan potensi TikTok sebagai sumber berharga untuk pembelajaran bahasa dan mendorong penelitian lebih lanjut di bidang ini.

Abstract

Keterampilan menulis memiliki peran krusial dalam berkomunikasi dan menyebarkan pengetahuan. Guru-guru Bahasa Inggris di Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru menghadapi tantangan dalam menulis artikel ilmiah, seperti ketidakpastian tata bahasa dan kurangnya pengetahuan teknis. Pemanfaatan kecerdasan buatan (AI) menjadi solusi yang menjanjikan, memungkinkan guru-guru untuk mengatasi kendala teknis dan meningkatkan kualitas penulisan mereka. Pelatihan intensif dilakukan, dengan fokus pada teknik penulisan, tata bahasa, dan penggunaan AI. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan guru-guru dalam menulis artikel ilmiah. Mereka juga semakin aktif dalam mempublikasikan hasil penelitian mereka, berkontribusi pada pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan pendidikan di tingkat lokal dan nasional. Pelatihan ini menegaskan perlunya monitoring dan evaluasi berkelanjutan untuk memastikan pengembangan kemampuan guru dan pemanfaatan AI yang efektif dalam penulisan artikel ilmiah. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini membuka pintu bagi peningkatan kualitas pendidikan dan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan di wilayah ini.

Abstract

Kecerdasan Buatan adalah kekuatan transformasional dalam pendidikan, terutama dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Studi ini membahas berbagai alat AI yang digunakan untuk pembelajaran bahasa, seperti terjemahan mesin, teknologi ucapan, chatbot, dan konten yang dihasilkan oleh kecerdasan buatan. Studi ini secara komprehensif menjelajahi potensi dan tantangan yang terkait dengan peran kecerdasan buatan dalam pendidikan bahasa. Di satu sisi, kecerdasan buatan menawarkan manfaat seperti panduan personal, keterlibatan interaktif, dan pelacakan kemajuan. Namun, juga menimbulkan kekhawatiran tentang interaksi manusia yang berkurang, dampak potensial pada otonomi pembelajar, dan peran yang berkembang dari guru bahasa. Oleh karena itu, studi ini menekankan pentingnya menggabungkan prinsip-prinsip etika, transparansi, dan inklusivitas untuk memandu integrasi kecerdasan buatan dalam pendidikan secara bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi penelitian perpustakaan untuk membangun landasan teoritis yang kuat, menekankan peran penting integrasi kecerdasan buatan yang bertanggung jawab dalam meningkatkan pendidikan bahasa sambil menjaga standar etika yang tinggi.

Abstract

Primary education is the cornerstone of a nation's development, and in this context, the role of teachers cannot be underestimated. In the rapidly evolving digital era, the integration of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), is key to enhancing the quality of education. This article investigates the implementation of AI training at SD Negeri Tiakur, West Southeast Maluku District, focusing on initial needs analysis, training implementation, and participant response evaluation. The aim is to understand the impact of the training on participants' understanding and acceptance of AI in education. Results show an improvement in participants' understanding of AI concepts and its potential in education, with a positive response to the training material. These findings highlight the importance of practical approaches in introducing new technologies to teachers. As a novelty value, this activity provided an integrated training covering the introduction of basic AI concepts, hands-on practice of AI applications in learning, and the development of AI-based learning strategies independently by the teachers. Recommendations include continuing advanced training to enhance AI usage skills in education and increasing access to technology for teachers. The integration of AI into primary education curricula is expected to prepare students for the challenges of the digital era.ABSTRAKPendidikan dasar adalah pilar utama dalam pembangunan negara, dengan peran penting guru dalam menyampaikan pembelajaran yang efektif. Di era digital, integrasi teknologi, khususnya kecerdasan buatan, menjadi kunci untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Artikel ini mengeksplorasi pelaksanaan pelatihan penggunaan AI di SD Negeri Tiakur, Kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya. Melalui analisis kebutuhan awal, pelaksanaan pelatihan, dan evaluasi respons peserta, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memahami dampak pelatihan terhadap pemahaman dan penerimaan terhadap AI dalam pembelajaran. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang konsep AI dan potensinya dalam pendidikan, dengan respons positif terhadap materi pelatihan. Temuan ini menyoroti pentingnya pendekatan praktis dalam mengenalkan teknologi baru kepada guru. Sebagai nilai kebaruan, kegiatan ini menyediakan pelatihan terpadu mulai dari pengenalan konsep dasar AI, praktik aplikasi AI dalam pembelajaran, hingga pengembangan strategi pembelajaran berbasis AI secara mandiri oleh para guru. Rekomendasi termasuk kelanjutan pelatihan lanjutan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan penggunaan AI dalam pembelajaran, serta peningkatan akses terhadap teknologi bagi guru. Integrasi AI dalam kurikulum pendidikan dasar diharapkan dapat mempersiapkan siswa untuk menghadapi tantangan di era digital.

Abstract

This study examines the strategies used by vocational education teachers to teach speaking skills online. Specifically, it focuses on English teachers Vocational High School in Ambon and their challenges in implementing these strategies. The study aims to provide practical insights for teaching speaking skills in online vocational high schools and recommend teacher professional development. The research design involves qualitative research methods, including interviews with two English teachers who teach third-grade Nursing students. The interviews were conducted to gather information on the teachers’ strategies and challenges in teaching speaking skills online. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The findings indicate that the teachers used dialogue, describing pictures, and drilling as strategies for teaching speaking skills online. Teachers also faced technical and pedagogical challenges in implementing these strategies. Technical challenges included internet reliability, limited device access, and teachers’ technological proficiency. Pedagogical challenges involved limited student-teacher interaction, reduced student engagement, and the asynchronous nature of online platforms. This study contributes valuable insights into teaching speaking skills in online vocational high schools. The findings can inform instructional practices and guide teacher professional development programs to enhance online speaking instruction.
