Abstract

Floodplain area is a very dynamic water system where the influence from terrestrial and river is high. This area is recognized as feeding, nursery and spawning ground of some fishes. Capture fisheries in this area is frequently occurred by using some of specific fishing gears which related to dynamic pattern of aquatic environment, such as water level, current, and physical-chemical aspects of water. The research was conducted in order to evaluate fish caught composition and fishing activity in floodplain swamp in middle part of Musi River by survey method. The result showed that 45 species of fish were caught and nine kinds of fishing gears were used by fishers. Gill nets were used in whole year, while seine were used only in the peak of dry season. Intra-annual variations of swamp water flow can modify the distribution and migratory pattern of fish species, with direct effects on fish catches.

Abstract

ABSTRACTInvestigation on lethal effect of leaf fowder of Nerium oleander to nile tilapia fingerlings was conducted on May 2011 in Hydrobiology laboratory of Research Instute for inland Fisheries.Static bioasays was carried out using 9 glass aquariums filled with 10 liters of test media and 10 Nile tilapia fingerlings were exposed into each aquarium. The results shows that leaf fowder of Nerium oleander were toxic to fish with 24 h, 48 h and 96h LC50 were 195.39 ppm, 51.22 ppm and 28.70 ppm respectively.Key words: Static bioasays, Nerium oleander, Oreochromis niloticus

Abstract

An experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of differentfertilizer regimes on biological productivity and water quality of limed acid sulfatesoils fishponds. The experiment consisted of 4 different fertilizer treatments i.e.,control without fertilizer input, chicken manure 50 g/m2 /week, chicken manure 75 g/m2 /week, and inorganic fertilizer (6 g of urea + 3.5 g of TSP /m /week), eachtreatment with 3 replications. Result of experiment shows that Inorganic fertilizationgave the highest chlorophyll a concentrations (83.40 mg/m3), and the highest net fishyields 7.53 kg /ha /day), but had a lower water pH than that in control. Ponds whichare fertilized with chicken manure 75 g /m2 /week gave the highest fish survival rate(100%) while in ponds without fertilizer inputs only 3.3 % of stocked fish wassurvived.
