Abstract

The presence of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has been increasing the ease and speed for people in accessing information. However, the presence of it also raised the skepticism of the libraries and librarians’ existence, as agents of information and knowledge dissemination. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is an opportunity or challenge for librarians. The approach used in this study is qualitative method and literature review. The results of this study is that in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, both information validation, digital literacy, and ICT capabilities are challenges and opportunities for librarians. This can also be overcome by librarians constantly increasing their competence, both basic, core, and specifically, broadening the focus of services, proactive towards what users’ needs, utilizing digital infrastructure to enhance library awareness and the existence of the library, participate in the library studies research, creating user-based activities experience, actively build networks between librarians and also in professional organizations, as well as being sensitive to the issue of librarianship globally.

Abstract

Introduction. Service excellence is the main thing librarians should provide, and it is no exception with current technological developments. This rapid technological development makes information becomes easy and fast to access. Therefore, librarians as knowledge organizer and information dissemination agents need to continually update their knowledge and competencies in order to provide quality services for library users. Purpose. This study aims to find out how best service should be provided by librarians to users in the midst of the current disruptive era of technology. Method. Qualitative method by studying literature was used in this study. Results and discussion. The study shows that technology-based library services such as promotion through social media, VR-AR-based service, and android-based library applications are excellent forms of services librarians can provide to users. This should be balanced by constantly increasing librarian’s competencies, for example, their proficiency in the use of information technology, knowledge management, management and leadership, and by enhancing their excellent communication skills and attitudes in giving services.

Abstract

This study discusses the role of librarians to increase reading interest in the digital era. The purpose of this study is to identify the things which should be done by librarians to build a reading culture in the present. This research is using qualitative method. Literature review is a research approach which is used to obtain descriptive analysis. The results of this study note that to build interest in reading in the digital era, librarians must be able to identify the needs of users, increase the availability of quality collections, build communication with the government, and participate in professional organizations to improve their competence.
