Abstract

In this study, the researcher used LRD strategy on narrative text to research The Influence of Using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy towards Students’ Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text at The Eleventh Grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong. This research was quantitative research. The researcher used quasi experimental research design. From the data analysis, the objective of this study is to know whether or not there is any significant influence of Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong. Based on the data analysis, there is a significant influence of using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong after the strategy was applied.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out how the students' perceptions on English teachers. The problem focuses on students' perceptions of the teacher's learning methods while learning the learning takes place, and an effective learning process with student learning outcomes gained. In this study the authors take respondents to get data that is as much as 4 respondents, where the one respondent is an English teacher and 3 other respondents are students. Researchers conducted interviews on each respondent. In this case, the teacher to know the methods used in the learning process and the students to know how performance teacher in the learning process. The method used in this research is descriptive design. This study reveals that teachers' performance in English learning is good, where teachers can apply motivation of students learning, learning model, classroom management, use of facilities, and student experience well. And for the learning method, the teacher does not use special methods in the learning process, but the teacher learning model is applied more to adaptation to the material taught to students. Nevertheless, the teacher will improve the methods in learning and innovate for the success of the learning process.

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to see the effect of the implementation of ice breaking to increase students motivation at 7th grade of MTs Yamueti Kokoda. In conducting this research, the rsearcher used pre-experimental design. The researcher used one class in this research. In the class researcher applied pretest and posttest. The sample are the students at 7th grade consisted of 11 students. The results of the research that used ice breaking technique that could be seen the value was lower than a value (0.00 < 0,05), it could seen p value (0,003) and the signifficant level (0,05), the value of fto tally (15,444) was more than ftable (4,96). This mean that an alternative hypotesis there is an influence the implementation of ice breaking on students motivation in english learning (H1) was accepted and, of course a null (H0) was rejected. In other words ice breaking gave the significant influence to the students motivation at 7th of MTs Yamueti Kokoda.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analysis the students’ problem in speaking and the cause factor of the students’ speaking problem at fifth semester of English Education Department in UNIMUDA Sorong. This research used descriptive qualitative research design. Fifth semester of English Education Department in UNIMUDA Sorong was chosen by the researcher as sample which consists of 16 students. In collecting data, the researcher used interview, and questionnaire. The data collect were analyzed by reducing the data, presenting the data, taking the conclusion and verification. From the data analysis, the researcher found that the students speaking problem are fear of mistake, shyness, lack of motivation, inhibition, lack of typical knowledge or nothing to say and mother tongue used. The cause factor of the speaking problem are external and internal factor. The internal are intelligence and interest in learning while the external factor is classroom environment.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether Mind mapping is effective or not in teaching speaking at eight-B grade of SMP N 4 Sorong Regency. Related to the objective of the research used pre-experimental quantitative research design. The design of this research was one group pre-test-post-test. The population of this research was eight grade students divide two classes that were VII A and B, the total of them were 37 students. Based on purposive sampling, the researchers chose eight B grade and which total was 10 students because the class was lack in speaking so they have low score and the students from Papua was dominant. In the collecting of data, the researchers did interview with five questions for pre-test and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researchers used SPSS 20 program to calculation the data. The result findings of the research showed that the result of N-gain was 43,77 with categorized was quite effective. In addition, the result of T-test was P-Value (0.000) < α (0.05), it means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It can be concluded that Mind Mapping Technique in Teaching Speaking was effective.

Abstract

The objective of this research aims to find out whether a choral reading method effective or not in teaching reading comprehension at eleventh grade in SMA Negeri 2 Kabupaten Sorong. Relate to the objective of the research use pre-experimental quantitative research design. The design of this research is one group pretest- post-test. The population of this research is eleventh grade students divide eight classes that are XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2, XI IPA 3, XI IPA 4 and the total them are 137 students. Based on purposive sampling, the researcher chose XI IPA 2 and which total are 31 students. To collect of the data, the researcher used 20 items multiple choice for pretest and post-test. In analyse the data, the researcher used SPSS 20 program to calculation the data. The result finding of the research showed that the result of N-gain is (20.27) or (21%) the categorize is not effective, it means that H0 is accept and Ha is rejected. The null hypothesis (H0) accept is not effective in teaching reading comprehension using choral reading method between pretest and post-test. but if there seen from the mean score from the pretest is (42,4194) improve on post-test (54,3548). It can be concluded that choral reading method in teaching reading comprehension are not effective in teaching reading.
