Abstract

ABSTRACT Rapid development of internet technology can influence the way we do research. Yet there are some weaknesses of research by using internet such as anonymity, demography of respondent, accessibility, risk of plagiarism, and reliability, the benefit is obvious. Academic staffs, researchers or students are advantaged since they can use it for referencing tool, on-line database, mailing list and media for sampling dissemination. Indeed, this paper discuss the implication of internet development on tourism & hospitality research since there are a lot of tourism & hospitality related resources in the web that can be found easily by using on-line database or search engine. Abstract

In the tourism literature there are differences of opinion among academics in conducting research to argue whether tourism is a scientific discipline, study or academic community. These three things are often misplaced depending on the author, the context and the author's academic’s background. This paper identifies the position of tourism in academia. These three ideas use as a tool to lead discussion. It also guides the ideas of tourism experts and Kuhn's ideas on what constitutes a scientific discipline. The discussion results is a debate of “what is the true" in tourism research. The recommendations displayed the advancement of tourism research through theoretical construction in the academic field of tourism.
