Abstract

The School Literacy Movement (GLS) is an implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 23 of 2015 concerning on the “Cultivation of Character”. Literacy culture is a habit of thinking followed by a reading-writing process which will eventually lead to critical thinking, problem solving, scientific development, and creation of works. This study aims to describe the policy of the school literacy movement at SDIT Nurul Yaqin. This type of study was a qualitative descriptive study with a case study approach. Data collection techniques employed interviews, observation and documentation. Source triangulation was conducted to ensure data validity. Research results point out as: (1) programs that support the GLS policy at SDIT Nurul Yaqin comprise of reading times, exhibitions, reading corners, story-telling, wall magazine, numeracy literacy, and making comics; and (2) factors supporting the implementation of the GLS policy program at SDIT Nurul Yaqin include commitment of the principal, participation of parents, support from the school community, allocation of 15 minutes of time for literacy, and varied media literacy. The inhibiting factors for GLS at SDIT Nurul Yaqin include inadequate books, inadequate library space, no GLS bureaucratic structure, and students’ reading awareness is still low

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the representation of self-confidence in the song lyrics in the album Alessia Cara Know-It-All by using the denotative meaning and connotative meaning in Roland Barthes' Semiotics and Lindenfield’s theory. In this research, the writers used Semiotic theory put forward by Roland Barthes which divides Semiotics into three parts, namely denotative meaning, connotative meaning and myth as well as to represent self-confidence, the writers used Lindenfield's theory which states that there are four characteristics of self-confidence, namely: (1) Self-love, (2) Self-understanding, (3) Clear goals, and (4) Positive mind. In the three parts of Roland Barthes' Semiotics, the discussion is limited by representing self-confidence through denotative and connotative meanings according to the data the writer found in the album Alessia Cara Know-It-All. Based on the results of the analysis, the representation of self-confidence in the Know-It-All album is 30 data altogether consisting of self-love 2 data or 6.7%, self-understanding is 5 data or 16.7%, clear goals is 13 data or 43.3% and being positive is 10 data or 33.3%. So it can be concluded that the most dominant representation is a clear goal.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation vocabulary mastery and the result of reading English at eight grade. The research was conducted at junior high school (SMP) Kasih Depok in Depok. The test method used quantitative research, which type of correlation research. The data collection technique used multiple choice objective test totally of items were 80 questions. The questions were consisting 40 items of vocabulary test and 40 items of reading English test. After doing the validity of the test items, then analyzing, and calculating of the test through the use of the Pearson product moment correlation test. It has been obtained T value counting bigger than T table (0,54 > 0,2484) and significant value as 0,000 which is meant less than 0,05(0,000 < 0,05). Therefore, this research has proved the second hypothesis that stated there was positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and the result of reading English at eight grade junior high school (SMP) Kasih Depok.
