Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are essential to assist the learning of senior high school students according to the 2013 curriculum, which prioritizes a scientific approach. The learning method that supports SPS is experiment methods. Nevertheless, learning with experimental methods is still rarely applied in schools, especially in the sound intensity level concept. The reason is the limited number and variant of experiment tool kits to support learning in schools. This study aims to develop a sound variable intensity level sound tool kit based on development procedures proposed by Jan van de Akker (2006). Sound variable intensity level kit was developed based on tool kit, which was developed before by Fikri Habibi. Sound variable intensity level experiment kit was evaluated by several learning media and learning material experts before being tested on high school students in several stages, including the one-on-one evaluation stages, small group evaluations, and field tests. The researcher revised the sound variable intensity level kit based on suggestions from the experts and the students. After being revised, the sound variable intensity level kit was tested on summative evaluation. Based on the results of summative evaluations, the sound variable intensity level kit becomes a successful, practical, and effective learning support tool kit for improving the science process skills of the student in the concept of sound intensity level.

Abstract

This research aim is to investigate the impact of simulation media toward critical thinking skill in static fluid concept. The research was conducted during 28 January 2019 until 13 February 2019 in SMAN 10 South Tangerang. The purposive sampiling technique was adjusted to determine subject which consist students role of XI IPA 2  as experiment class and XI IPA 1 as control class. The research used quasi experiment method due to nonequivalent control group design. The data were collective by 10 essays test and questionnaire and Mann Whitney to analyse the accpetance of hypothesis. Thus, the result of postest score who learn using simulation media was significant (angka signifikan) effected toward critical thinking skill. In addition,  the N-Gain result indicated student performance of  experiment class was higher improvement than control class. However, learning using simulation media got best category resulting 86% percentage  from student response questionnaire.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a problem-based learning module to create valid, effective, and practical materials on the concepts of temperature and heat that will help students improve their metacognitive knowledge. The ADDIE development model used in this study. The research subjects were students of class XI SMAN 11 Maros who became the subjects of this research. The instruments used are tests in the form of cognitive and metacognitive knowledge and non-tests in the form of questionnaires and interviews. The results of the study based on linguistic experts amounted to 88.1, media experts amounted to 85.26, material experts amounted to 91.07 with a very valid category. The results of the effectiveness of the module by physics teachers are 98.95 and students are 88.79 in the very practical category. The results of the effectiveness in increasing metacognitive knowledge with an N-gain value of 0.4 in the medium category. This research obtained that the PBL-based module that has been developed is valid, practical, and effective to increase metacognitive knowledge on the concepts of temperature and heat. Keywords: metacognitive, problem based learning, temperature and heat.

Abstract

One of the troubles in Indonesian training is that the system of tutorial development remains not substantial and is abstract and even a way from actual existence, making it tough to train college students' creative wondering abilties. This study targets to enhance innovative questioning talents using the context-based learning (CBL) studying model on motion dynamics fabric. There are several articles associated with these studies for analysis. The sample for this research was 64 students taken from 2 classes, namely class XI K and XI L among 6 class XI at SMAN 3 Pandeglang. The methodology employed for data analysis to ascertain an increase in creative thinking skills in students is the N-gain test. Based on the N-gain analysis, the findings indicated an improvement in creative thinking skills using the context-based learning (CBL) learning model on Motion Dynamics material. This was obtained derived from the outcomes of statistical calculations which indicated the presence of increase in the value of N-gain in the class undergoing the experiment by 0.84 in the high category, while in the control class the N-gain value was only 0.39 falling within the moderate category. Therefore, learning using the context-based learning model is recommended to be employed to enhance the creative thinking abilities of students, especially in contextually related materials such as Motion Dynamics material.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is centered on the issue of low critical thinking skills among high school students, particularly in the study of elasticity and Hooke's law. The research aims to investigate how a context-based learning model with the assistance of PhET simulations influences students' critical thinking skills in the context of elasticity and Hooke's law. The study was conducted at SMAS Cengkareng 1 Jakarta for five weeks in October 2023, involving a sample of 30 students. The sample selection utilized purposive sampling, comprising 30 students from class XI MIPA B (control group) and class XI MIPA A (experimental group). The applied design was quasi-experimental with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Data collection involved a critical thinking test instrument consisting of twelve essay-type questions (validated with a validity of 0.86 and reliability of 0.83). The results of the posttest hypothesis test using the t-test at a significance level of 0.05 showed a sig.(2-tailed) value of 0.000, with the conclusion H0 rejected (indicating the influence of the context-based learning model with PhET simulation assistance on students' critical thinking skills). The critical thinking of the experimental group showed a greater improvement (N-gain 0.459 in the moderate category) compared to the control group (N-gain 0.288 in the low category). The implications of this research encourage educators to implement learning models to enhance low critical thinking skills, allowing students to actively engage with complex challenges related to real-life contexts. The study underscores the need to improve critical thinking skills across various subjects.

Abstract

Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) is a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the development and function of the immune system. This literature review aims to summarize the current understanding of SCID, including pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies. A PubMed database search was performed using the search terms “Severe Combined Immunodeficiency” and “SCID”. Relevant articles, including original research, case reports, and reviews, were selected for inclusion. SCID is characterized by severe deficiencies in the number and function of T cells, B cells, and sometimes Natural Killer (NK) cells. This disorder is caused by mutations in one or more genes involved in the maturation of immune cells, which are inherited in an autosomal recessive or X-linked pattern. As a result, affected infants are highly susceptible to life-threatening opportunistic infections. Clinical symptoms of SCID usually appear within the first few months of life, with recurrent infections as the main manifestation. Diagnostic approaches include newborn screening, complete blood count, measurement of immunoglobulin levels, and T cell function tests. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains the therapy of choice, with gene therapy a promising approach. Although SCID treatment has made significant progress, challenges remain in terms of early diagnosis, availability of suitable donors, and post-transplant complications. Further research is needed to optimize therapeutic strategies and improve long-term outcomes for SCID patients.
