Abstract

This study seeks to develop understanding from the literature the important relationship between corporate governance mechanism especially board characteristics and R&D strategic decision making. Some board characteristics, such as board size and independence are positively associated with firm performance. Directors of different ethnic, cultural backgrounds and different nationalities stimulate a firm to improve or develop new products. Older directors are less risk-tolerant than younger ones and invest less in risky R&D investments. The effect of board size on performance is negative and significant, while it has a positive and significant impact on R&D investment. Therefore, board characteristics are the considerable factors in affecting the effective R&D strategic decision making.

Abstract

This study seeks to find the rank of corporate governance characteristics that affect bank performance. The artificial neural network is employed in the analysis instead of regression analysis. There are two dependent variables which are ROA and PER that represents the accounting performance and the market performance. Size of the board of directors, gender diversity of the board, and board independence are the corporate governance characteristics considered in this study. Board independence is the most important factor in determining both accounting performance and market performance. However, the size of the board of directors becomes the second-factor affecting a bank’s accounting performance and the last factor affecting the bank’s market performance, while gender diversity is the last factor for accounting performance and the second factor for market performance.

This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of Good Corporate Governance on profitability in the banking sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Proxies of good corporate governance are managerial ownership, institutional ownership, the composition of independent commissioners, and the size of the board of directors, profitability is proxied by the ratio of Return on Net Operating Assets (RNOA). The sample of this research was taken using purposive sampling to obtain 43 companies that meet the criteria as a sample. The data analysis technique in this study used multiple linear regression. The results obtained in this study indicate that managerial ownership, institutional ownership, and the size of the board of directors have no significant effect on profitability, while the composition of independent commissioners has a significant effect on profitability.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss the theoretical approach to pursuing firm performance stability by integrating RBV and CSV. This paper provides a literature review of RBV theory and CSV theory. Based on the theory, RBV and CSV might lead the firm to achieve a competitive advantage. The competitive advantages are superior firm resources compared to a competitor and the increasing of productivity. As a consequence, the firm's stable performance could be achieved since the firm generates more revenue, lowers costs, and then increases profit. This paper also has the managerial implication that the CSV mindset trains the manager’s attention on opportunities to take on societal and environmental challenges in innovative ways.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine and analyze the effect of earnings management on the stock prices of pharmaceutical companies in Indonesia. In this study, earnings management is the independent variable and stock prices are the dependent variable. The sample used is a pharmaceutical company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sampling method was carried out using purposive sampling. Detection of earnings management behavior in this study was measured using the modified Jones model. The data analysis technique uses the classical assumption test, namely the multicollinearity test and the heteroscedasticity test by testing the hypothesis using multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that pharmaceutical companies actually practice earnings management by reducing profits as seen from the average negative discretionary accruals (DA). According to the results of the study, earnings management has no effect on the stock prices of pharmaceutical companies listed on the IDX. This means that there are other factors that will further influence the movement of pharmaceutical company stock prices in Indonesia in 2017-2021.
