Abstract

Abstrak Karya sastra sebagai sebuah kreativitas, baik estetis maupun respons kehidupan sosial, mencoba mengungkapkan perilaku manusia dalam suatu komunitas sosial. Dimensi-dimensi yang dilukiskan merupakan dimensi kehidupan dari sebuah struktur sosial yang di dalamnya tertuang nilai keindahan, nilai etika dan moral, sehingga mempunyai fungsi yang sangat besar artinya bagi kehidupan. Penelitian ini fokus pada sastra tradisional Bali berupa geguritan.Geguritan yang dijadikan objek tulisan ialah Geguritan Diah Sawitri yang memuat gambaran hidup dan kehidupan dan sangat patut dijadikan pedoman dan dicontoh dalam menjalankan kehidupan. Perilaku kehidupan yang dijalankan sang tokoh cerita (Sawitri) berkaitan erat dengan nilai-nilai Hindu (tri hita karana, trikaya parisuda); peranan jender; dan cita-cita feminisme radikal-kultural yang menekankan pada esensi perempuan (keperempuanan).

Abstract

The title of this writing is “Conflict of Beatrice Prior in Roth’s Allegiant”. The specific aim of this scientific writing is to find out and describe the conflicts that are faced by the main character and to find out the source of the conflicts Roth’s Allegiant. This novel is the third series of Divergent written by Veronica Roth and published in 2016. The data is collected through library research and analyzed based on two main theories. The main theory which is used in analyzing this paper is theory of literature by Lajos Egri and also theory of psychology by Tayla Bauer & Berrin Erdogan in his book entitled An Introduction to Organizational Behavior, This research is analyzed based qualitative-descriptive method. Based on the result of analysis, it can be concluded that Conflict of Beatrice Prior in Roth’s Allegiant consist of internal and external conflict. Types of internal conflicts of Tris is categorized as Intrapersonal conflict. Meanwhile, the types of external conflicts are categorized as Interpersonal conflict and Intergroup conflict. The source of the conflict are differing in attitudes, values, and perceptions, differing in goals or objective, differing in personal style or personality.

Abstract

The title of this research is Values of Life in Mitch Albom’s Tuesday With Morrie. This research focuses on analyzing the types of values which are found in novel Tuesday With Morrie. This study aims to analyze the types of value of live on the novel Tuesday With Morrie and describe its implementation in human’s life. There are four methods of research used in this paper, they are: finding data resource, collecting and clasifying the data, analyzing the data, and the last is presenting the result of the analysis. All of the data used in the research are taken from Albom’s Tuesday With Morrie. The result of the analysis showed that in general there are two kinds of value found, they are entertainment value and educational value. Based on the educational value, there are three values found, such as society and civilizations value, moral – ethic – religion value, and practical value. The result of the study also showed that all of the all datacan be implemented in daily human’s life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and discuss the values in Hendrik Ibsen’s The Wild Duck. The method used in this study is descriptive. The data are a drama entitled The Wild Duck (1959). A library research method is applied in collecting the data. Furthermore, the data is analyzed qualitatively. Based on the result of the analysis, it was revealed that there are five kinds of Values found in The Wild Duck which are Moral Value, Social Value, Personal Value, Spiritual Value and Family Value. The most presented type is a moral value, it is about honesty. Social value is about interaction with around, friendship, respect to each other, justice. A personal value is a personality. Spiritual is non-material, it means the values of truth, inner peace, righteousness, and non-violence and the last is family values are beliefs, function as a family, ideals.

Abstract

This research is about the sociological problems of five important characters in Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asian. Rachel Chu is the main character in this story comes from the middle class society. She has a relationships with Nicholas Young who comes from the upper class society. They face a lot of problems especially from Nicholas’s family who doesn’t agree with their relationships. Different society influences the character of someone. That’s why this research is aimed to find out the types of social class and the influence of social class on the character that showed in the story. The data were collected by reading the novel thoroughly then using the note-taking technique before being identified based on the topic. The collected data were descriptively analyzed by using qualitative-descriptive method to classify the types of social class and the influence of social class on the character that found in this novel. Based on the result of the research, it is found that there are three kinds of social class in Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asian, those are: Upper class, Middle class and Working class. Rachel Chu who comes from the middle class society has a simple personality. She prefers to save her money for food though she is a lecturer in university rather than her boy friend, Nicholas Young who comes from the worthy family. Nick’s family are also live glamor in Singapore. They spend a lot of money for fashion and jewelry. It much different with Rachel’s mom ( Kerry Chu) who originally comes from working or lower class society. She fulfills her daughter alone and becomes a single parent because she has divorced with her husband when Rachel still child. This condition make Eleanor Young doesn’t agree with the relationships however the power of love between Nick and Rachel defeated everything. Finally, they become a couple.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The topic of this research is about environments that are found in Alexandre Dumas’s The Count of Monte Cristo. This research investigates the environments and their function in the novel. This research utilized the novel entitled The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas (1997) as the data source. Collection of data were done in a form of library research, which consist of reading the data source and underlining and/or noting the relevant data. All data were classified into their respective kind and function of settings. The collected data were analyzed descriptively. The result of the research showed that four kinds of environments and five functions it were found in Alexandre Dumas’s The Count of Monte Cristo. The four environments found were place, time, social environment, and atmosphere. The five functions found were environment as background for action, environment antagonist, environment a means of creating appropriate atmosphere, environment a means of revealing character, environment as means of reinforcing theme.

Abstract

This writing focused on “The Author’s Arrangements of Events in Moyes’s Me Before You (2012).” This writing is aimed to analyze the causal relationships of those events in Me Before You. The theory applied for analyzing the problem is the theory of arrangement of event, well known as plot taken from William Kenney. The method which is used in this research consist of three steps. Those are data source, data collection, data analysis, and presenting data. The data source is taken from Moyes’s Me Before You. The data are collected by using observation method then it is analyzed descriptively based on the theoretical concept and presented by using informal method. Based on the result of the data analysis, it can be stated that the author’ s arrangement of events ( plot) in Me Before You consists of three parts, those are: beginning structure, middle structure, and the end structure. The beginning structure consist of exposition of the character and setting. The middle structure consist of social conflict, complication and climax. Finally, the end structure of this novel, the author tells us about the main character (William Traynor) decided to die of suicide way.

Abstract

This writing focused on “The Conflict of Beatrice Prior in Roth’s Divergent”. The specific aim of this scientific writing is to find out and describe the conflicts that are faced by Beatrice Prior and also to find out the source of the conflicts in Roth’s Divergent. The data of the research were taken from Divergent written by Veronica Roth. The research method used in this study are qualitative –descriptive method. The data were collected through library research, then the data were analyzed using non-formal technique. The theory of literature is important in analyzing character while the theory of psychology is used in analyzing conflict. The theory of character is taken from Lajos Egri about Three dimensions of characterization, while theory of conflict is taken from Tayla Bauer and Berrin Endargon. Based on the result of analysis, it can be concluded that The Conflict of Beatrice Prior in Roth’s Divergent consists of internal conflict and external conflict. Beatrice Prior or known as Tris is the main character of this story based on the role of the character in the story. The types of Tris’s internal conflicts are categorized as Intrapersonal conflict. Meanwhile, the types of Tris’s external conflicts are categorized as Interpersonal conflict and Intergroup conflict. The source of the conflicts are differing in Attitudes, Values, and Perceptions.

Abstract

The title of this paper is “Psychological Analysis of Protagonist in Rowling’s Harry Potter and The Sorcerer Stone. The aims this study were to find out the psychological problems of protagonist in it his case the problems of emotional feelings that showed in the story and also the influence of protagonist emotional feelings to his surroundings or his self. The data were collected by reading the novel thoroughly then using the note-taking technique before being identified into Psychology aspect. The collected data were descriptively analyzed by using qualitative-descriptive method to classify the types of protagonist emotional feelings and influence of protagonist emotional feelings to his surroundings or his self-found in the novel. Based on the result of the analysis, it is found there are two kinds of emotional feelings, those are: negative emotional feeling and positive emotional feeling. And the analysis he focused on the psychological analysis of protagonist in dealing with his emotion that showed in the story. According to the data, protagonist emotion can influence his surrounding and his self. It make emotional feeling become an influencer of a situation.

Abstract

Title of this paper is “Values Found in Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia”. The objectives of this research are to find out the values found in The Chronicles of Narnia and to know how the moral values in The Chronicles of Narnia applied for moral education. The method steps consist of three, those are: reading the data source, the selection of the data from the data source, and the analysis of the data taken from the data source. The data for this research is taken from C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. The result of this research shows that there are a lot of values that appear on this novel, such as wisdom, generosity, patience, friendliness, prudence, honesty, justice, friendship, compassion, reasonableness, conscientiousness, self-discipline, industriousness, cooperativeness, self-reliance, courage, not selfish, courteousness, loyalty, thoughtfulness, sacrifice, dependability, trust, tolerance. This novel taught how to be a good human and taught how attitude in daily life. This novel is really good for moral education.
