Abstract

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, sebuah tendensy gread terhadap penggunaan tecnology danintegrasi ke dalam kurikulum telah memperoleh penting. Khususnya, penggunaan videosebagai kelas pengajaran bahasa asing audio visual telah berkembang pesat karenameningkatnya penekanan pada teknik komunikatif. dan jelas bahwa penggunaan videomerupakan bantuan besar bagi para guru bahasa asing di simulasi dan fasilitating bahasatarget. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan pemahaman mendengarkanmahasiswa belajar bahasa Inggris dengan penggunaan bahan video dalam mengajarmendengarkan comprehension.The sampel dari populasi siswa untuk studi ini 38 tahunkedua siswa Inggris di semester ketiga tahun akademik 2014/2015 di Universitas IslamRiau., Pekanbaru. Mereka dipilih secara simple random sampling. Penelitian ini dilakukanselama 12 periode mengajar. Satu-kelompok desain pretest-posttest dilaksanakan dalampenelitian ini. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rencana pelajaran danmendengarkan tes pemahaman (pretest dan posttest). Mengenai analisis data, rata-rata,persentase dan nilai t-test untuk sampel tergantung dipekerjakan. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa kemampuan mendengarkan pemahaman siswa meningkat secarasignifikan setelah belajar dengan video.

Abstract

Artikel ini berjudul “Kemampuan Menulis Paragraf Semester Tiga Tahun Akademik 2015-2016 Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UIR Pekanbaru” Tujuan penlitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan Kemampuan menulis paragraf semester tiga tahun kademik 2015-2016 jurusan bahasa Inggris FKIP UIR Pekanbaru dalam menulis paragraf. Penelitian ini menggunakan methode deskriptif quantitatif. Sampel yang berjumlah 35 orang dipilih melalui teknik randum sampling dan data diperoleh melalui tes writing. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 25% diantara meareka berada pada kategori di bawah rata-rata (poor) pada indicator paragraph organization, 31 % pada indicatorcontent, 34.3% pada indicator formal grammar, dan 30% pada indicator mechanic. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukkan bahwa Semester Tiga Tahun Akademik 2015-2016 Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UIR Pekanbaru masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis paragraf.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji pronomina nonasertif dalam bahasa Inggris sebagai salah satu bentuk pronomina taktakrif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dan dikaji melalui teknik kajian distribusional. Pronomina nonasertif dipilah berdasarkan bentuk, fungsi, acuan, dan perilaku sintaksisnya dalam kalimat tunggal dan dalam kalimat majemuk. Sumber data berasal dari bahasa Inggris tulis yang diambil dari berbagai jenis genre seperti cerpen, dan novel. Data tersebut dijadikan data utama sedang data pendukung diambil dari surat kabar. Hasil yang dicapai dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya tiga kelompok pronomina nonasertif. yaitu sebagai penggolong, sebagai pemarkah, dan sebagai determinator. Pronomina nonasertif sebagai penggolong sealalu dilekati unsurunsur tertentu seperti –one, -body, -thing, -time, dan –where. Pronomina nonasertif sebagai pemarkah dapat digabung dengan nomina terbilang dan takterbilang baik yang insani maupun yang noninsani. Sebagai pemarkah, pronomina nonasertif dapat pula dilekati berbagai ajektiva. Pronomina nonasertif sebagai determinator hanya dapat merujuk pada benda terbilang insani dan noninsani. Ketiga pronomina nonasertif di atas dapat bersifat anaforis dan kataforis.

Abstract

This paper shows the ELT educational trend has recently been gaining in significance in education systems throughout the word. English Language Teaching (ELT) has tremendously changed over the last one decade. Living in a world where technology is omnipresent. Technology in education has become the buzz word in every educational environment. The classroom environment today, is completely different from the traditional classroom. The traditional methods which are mainly based on lecturing and rote learning. Whereas, technologies like internet, skype, youtube, tweeter, Mobile phones and many more have added not only stimulus but also learners' engagement and true interactivity with the classroom. The internet has had a tremendous impact on learning and brought new opportunities for learners to find and retrieve information, access learning resources, as well as to connect with other learners. Internet appeared to be entering a new phase of development with a nerver range of applications, tools and services. Teachers and learners are able to use technological tools such as: quizzes to test knowledge: search tools to retrieve information online, as well as discussion boards. email, and life chart, which facilitated communication. These tools certainly has the potential to enhance the learning process by offering more flexible access to the curriculum and providing opportunities for support outside the classroom. One widespread method online teaching involves the use of skype, a powerful application that provides users with free internet voice chatting service. This paper is focused on analyzing the impact of Skype on students' listening comprehension for a group of 21 students of fourth semester of FKIP UIR Pekanbaru in academic year 2014/2015. This study used classroom action research. The researcher collaborated with one of the English lecturer who teaches at English language of FKIP UIR. The instruments of this research were tests, observation, interview, and field notes. The data collection nas accomplished by means of students' reflection questionnaires posterior to the Skype, field notes of the inlestigator, and comprehension tests. The finding shorws that the use of Skype can improve students' listening comprehension. It can be seen from the increasing of mean score of the tests, includes:base score has 46.19, cycle I was 69.52, and cycle II was 71.43.

Abstract

Teaching English Stylistic to language students in Universitas Islam Riau has always been part of language or foreign language education. It is a study of linguistics about how someone expresses his or her ideas depend on the purpose of it. An advertisement is good example to study to see how the advertisers use a language to persuade the readers to buy their product or use their service. This research attempted to know the style of language on advertisement, namely syntactical feature in stylistic teaching-learning frameworks. This research used descriptive qualitative as the research design and textual analysis was used to analyse the data. There were 28 data from two editions of Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine. Based on the data obtained, it is found that there were 46 long-noun phrases, 16 short sentences in the form of present tense, 13 imperative and ellipsis, 3 incomplete sentences and association, 1 for simple and colloquial, ambiguity, syntactic parallelism. Students are required to have literary competence as they are exposed to extracts from literary works while studying English.

One widespread method online teaching involves the use of skype, a powerful application that provides users with free internet voice chatting service.Skype can be a wonderful opportunity to expand learning situations through voice, text and video sessions.This paper is focused on analyzing the impact of Skype on students’ listening comprehension for a group of 21 students of fourth semester of FKIP UIR Pekanbaru in academic year 2014/2015. This study used classroom action research. The instruments of this research were tests, observation, interview, and field notes. The data collection was accomplished by means of students’ reflection questionnaires posterior to the Skype, field notes of the investigator, and comprehension tests. The finding shows that the use of Skype can improve students’ listening comprehension. It can be seen from the increasing of mean score of the tests.The results of the first cycle of 69.52 learning increased to 71.43 in the second cycle.

Abstract

Field-based learning has long been used by teachers to enhance students learning. Futher, Field trips are recognized as important moments in learning; a shared social experience that provides the opportunity for students to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic setting. The need to develop an effective environmental education program ranks as one of the major challenges facing education in the next decade. This paper is focused on analyzing the effectiveness of field trips strategy on students’ writing descriptive text for a group of 30 students of second semester of FKIP UIR Pekanbaru in academic year 2016/2017 who were selected by using random sampling. The data were collected by giving test (pre-test and post-test) This study used experimental reseacrch, used by the Mann-Whitney U t-test. The normality of the test was analysed through Kolmogorov-Smirnova..The instruments used in this study were lesson plans and writing descriptive text tests. Regarding the data analysis, mean, percentage and Mann-Whitney U test scores for the dependent sample were employed. The result of statistc indicated that the asymptotic significance of less than 0.05 (p = 0.00 < 0.05). it means the students’ ability in writing descriptive text increased significantly after learning with fild trip strategy.

Abstract

This study was intended to describe the category of inflectional and derivational morphemes found in Reading Texts of 2013 Curriculum English Textbook for the X Grade of Senior High Schools Published by Ministry of Education and Culture. Morpheme is used to refer to the smallest unit that has meaning or serves a grammatical function in a language. The morphemes which can meaningfully stand alone are called free morphemes while the morphemes such as –er and –s, which cannot meaningfully stand alone are called bound morphemes. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The results of this study show that Derivational prefixes consist of inter-, eco-, un-, ar-, pre-, re-, pro-, be-, de-, in-, dis-, a-, ex-, auto-, mis-, agri-, em-, ap-, im- and al-. While, Derivational suffixes consist of four categories. Thus are nominal, verbal, adjectival, and adverbial suffixes. First, nominal suffixes, namely –ism, -ation, -al, -ing, -ist, -or, -ity, -er, -ance, -ment, -ion, -ess, -ium, -ature, -ry, -ant, -ce, -ive, -cy, -y, -r, -ge, and -ness. Second, Verbal suffixes, namely –n and –ize. Third, Adjectival suffixes, namely –al, -ly, -ous, -ing, -able, -ic, -ish, -ive, -ian, -ny, -less, -ed, -ary, -nese, -y, and –ful and the last is adverbial suffix –ly. Otherwise, the categories of inflectional morphemes that found in texts consist of Noun suffixes (plural) such as; –s, -ies, and –es, Noun suffixes (possessive) e.g; –s’ and -’s, Verb suffixes (3rd person singular) are –s and –es, Verb suffixes (past tense) are –ed and –d, Verb suffixes (past participle) such as; –n, -d, and -ed, Adjective suffixes (comparative) are –er, - r, and –ier and Adjective suffixes (superlative) are –st and –est. Therefore, based on the result of finding verb suffixes are not found.

Abstract

This study aimed at exploring students’ attitudes and perceptions about the effectiveness of field trips strategy. The participants of this study were 40 English students of Universitas Islam Riau, Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied. This study employed an exploratory mixed-method design. The questionnaire consisted of three parts and 25 items which aimed at getting information about affective learning, the qualities among students and the contribution of a field trip on Society and Individuals. A five-point Likert-scale ranging from “ strongly agree’ to “strongly disagree” was asked to respondents to be selected. While a semi-structured interviewed was used together comprehensive information about the advantages of field trips in their study. The results of this study shown that field trips contribute to students’ learning experience positively, besides it can solve many problems in the classroom and enhance the ability of students to think critically and creatively.

Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the students’ morphological awareness which is employed by the third semester of English students FKIP Universitas Islam Riau Pekanbaru Riau, Indonesia.This study is the qualitative design namely case study. The instrument of this study was documentation or the scrips of the students in the final examination result in the academic year 2019-2020. In this case, the researcher has analyzed the data using the Cresswell method. The result of this study found that some of the students still have a problem in using derivational affixes such as in changing the classes of words from verb to noun, noun to adjective, adjective to a verb, adjective to an adverb
