Abstract

Brick debris that makes up the majority of construction waste has not received proper waste disposal in Indonesia. On the other hand, brick debris could be potentially reused as non-structural building materials to reduce its negative impact on the environment. This study aims to test the effectiveness of soundproofing on recycled brick debris. The soundproof test was carried out on brick debris in the form of fine and coarse grains. The simulation box is then used as a support for the brickwork material and then the box is exposed to a sound source with a certain level of noise that is considered disturbing human comfort. Noise level measurements are made in the outside and inside the box. These measurements are tabulated and then analyzed to see the success of the two aggregates in reducing noise. Basically, the brickwork material has succeeded in becoming a recycled building material that can absorb noise, although further research must be carried out to be able to state that this material is truly ready to be used as an alternative building material with good acoustic capabilities.

Abstract

Previous researches on urban housing transformation in Indonesia focused on the privacy and observable morphological changes of the house. This study aims to compare the spatial configuration between the original and transformed plan of the urban houses in Indonesia. Six houses in Jatiwaringin Asri, Bekasi were investigated as part of the case study. The original plan and transformed plan of the houses are obtained through the interviews with the occupants of the houses. The plans were analyzed graphically and mathematically using space syntax. The results show that the open plan space is central in both original and transformed plan. There is strong segregation between public and private area but the interior of the houses maintain low hierarchical organization.

Abstract

Space syntax adalah perangkat teknik analisis ruang yang dikembangkan untuk mempelajari hubungan antara tatanan masyarakat dengan konfigurasi ruang. Metode analisis yang digunakan fokus pada kualitas topologis ruang dengan mereduksi denah bangunan atau ruang menjadi diagram yang mengidentifikasi keberadaan ruangan dan koneksi antarruangan. Walaupun space syntax telah diperkenalkan sejak tahun 1982, penggunaannya terbatas karena pemula tidak memiliki panduan praktis untuk memahami proses analisis langkah demi langkah. Penjelasan teori space syntax juga memiliki inkonsistensi teori sehingga sulit dimengerti. Tulisan ini ditujukan sebagai pengenalan dasar pada pemula yang ingin mempelajari space syntax. Konsep dasar mengenai teori space syntax akan dijelaskan lalu dilanjutkan dengan studi kasus untuk menjabarkan teknik analisis yang digunakan. Dengan fokus pada teknik convex mapping, proses analisis akan dijelaskan langkah demi langkah untuk memperkenalkan pemula pada konsep dasar analisis dan interpretasi visual terhadap hasil analisis. Proses analisis yang digunakan mencakup tiga bagian: abstraksi, analisis, dan interpretasi. Pada tulisan ini, fokus bahasan hanya pada analisis visual tanpa membahas analisis secara matematis.
