Abstract

This study aims at describing the implementation of authentic assessment to measure Basic English speaking skill of students majoring in Japanese study. The description consists of three parts, namely designing the authentic assessment, implementing the authentic assessment and scoring students’ speaking skill. This study applies qualitative descriptive method. The data was collected through class observation. The result of the study revealed that authentic assessment was considered as the most effective way in assessing students’ performance in the classroom as its ability to assess the whole process of learning rather than just testing students’ knowledge at the end of the course. In conducting the authentic assessment to measure Basic English speaking skill of students majoring in Japanese study, the lecturer designed the authentic assessment based on the six steps suggested by Pierce and O’Malley (1996), implemented performance assessment to measure the students speaking skill and used analytic rubric in scoring the students speaking skill.

Abstract

In 2019, Vocational School  Diponegoro University opened several new study programs. One of them is Applied Foreign Language Program. This study program has 2 majors namely English and Japanese. In the third semester, students are directed to take one of the majors based on their interests and talents. Although they have chosen their major that can be English or Japanese, they still have to study both of them. For 3rd semester students of Japanese major, they are also required to take Basic English courses. This course itself will be based on tourism in accordance with the vision of the Applied Foreign Language program that is not only to give the students the competence of mastering English and Japanese languages but also give them the competence of tourism and hospitality. The aim of this research is to develop Tourism based Basic English material for Japanese major of Applied Foreign Language program. The method used in this research is Research and Development while the model that researchers use is ADDIE model (Analysis-Design-Develop-Implement-Evaluate). The result of this research is Tourism based Basic English material for Japanese major of Applied Foreign Language program which consists of four tourism themes namely An Introduction to Travel and Tourism, Tourism Organisations, Promotion and Marketing and Types of Transport and Accommodation. Those themes will be discussed in four integrated English skills which include listening activity, speaking activity, reading activity and activity writing.

Abstract

Abstract Pada tahun 2019, Sekolah Vokasi Undip membuka beberapa program studi baru, salah satunya adalah program studi D4 Bahasa Asing Terapan. Program studi ini memiliki 2 konsentrasi yaitu Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Jepang. Pada semester ketiga, mahasiswa diarahkan untuk mengambil salah satu konsentrasi berdasarkan minat dan bakat mereka. Namun, tidak serta merta mereka hanya mempelajari bahasa yang ada di konsentrasi tersebut. Misalnya, mahasiswa yang memilih untuk mengambil konsentrasi Bahasa Jepang, mereka juga masih mempelajari Bahasa Inggris dalam beberapa sks yang sudah ditentukan oleh program studi. Untuk mahasiswa semester 4 konsentrasi Bahasa Jepang, mereka juga diharuskan mengambil mata kuliah Intermediate English. Mata kuliah ini sendiri nantinya akan berbasis pariwisata sesuai dengan visi program studi D4 Bahasa Asing Terapan yakni mencetak sarjana terapan yang memiliki kompetensi unggul dalam bidang Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Jepang untuk berbagai keahlian di bidang hospitality, pariwisata, penerjemahan dan komunikasi bisnis. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan materi pembelajaran Intermediate English berbasis pariwisata untuk prodi D4 Bahasa Asing Terapan Konsenrasi Bahasa Jepang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development sedangkan model yang peneliti gunakan adalah model pengembangan ADDIE (Analysis-Desain-Develop-Implement-Evaluate). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah materi pembelajaran mata kuliah Intermediate English berbasis pariwisata untuk program studi D4 Bahasa Asing Terapan Konsentrasi Bahasa Jepang yang meliputi tema Hotel Staff, Planning and Booking Holiday, International Tourism (UK) and International Tourism (Europe)yang pembahasannya dikemas dalam empat aktivitas pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris terintegrasi yang terdiri dari listening activity, speaking activity, reading activity dan writing activity.
