Abstract

[Design of air conditioning system based on the energy and costs aspect of  hotel buildings in Semarang] Indonesia’s economic growth has been above 5% for the past few years. Tourism industry is one of the sectors that shows a significant progress. The improvement in tourism industry has to be supported with good hospitality industry as well. Air conditioning system is one of the main utilities in a hotel building. The design of the air conditioning system for a hotel building must pay close attention to the thermal comfort factor for the guests, safety factor, and energy and cost efficiency aspect of it. Air conditioning system design consists of cooling load calculation for the hotel, air conditioning system selection, energy and cost calculation using the life cycle cost analysis. The maximum cooling load in this hotel is 3.279 kW. From that cooling load, three alternative systems are being considered, which are the central air conditioning system using chiller machine that has constant flowrate, the central air conditioning system using chiller machine that has variable flowrate, and the split air conditioning system using VRF machine. Energy analysis and life cycle cost analysis for 20 years was performed to be able to decide the best system. From that energy and cost analysis it can be concluded that the second alternative, which is three units of chiller with variable discharge with a capacity of 1,100 kW for each chiller, is the best system for the hotel. This system has an energy consumption intensity value of 118 kWh/m2 per year and total cost of Rp. 87,707,416,390  for a period of 20 years.

Abstract

The subject of Ergonomics serves as an important part on the education for Product Design Engineering, in which it sets the fundamental understanding for future engineers over the human aspect in engineered a new product. The teaching method of Ergonomics using theoretical approach, followed by laboratory practice to simulate the approach on improving a product or system from the human point of view as user. However, in the context of Product Design Engineering that seeks an output in form of a product solution the approach used in Ergonomics teaching may not be reaching the level of prototyping that can represent a tangible solution. This paper is discussing an alternate approach of applying Project-based model for teaching Ergonomics with aim to produce an output of conceptual product to materialize the Ergonomics improvement parameters resulted from the theoretical and laboratory practice approach initially conducted from the previous approach. The adoption of Design Thinking method into the teaching plan was being introduced as a mean of allowing a direct and practical way of leading the process up to prototyping phase and thus setting up a platform for further improvement. The case study was deducted from the teaching subject of Human-Integrated Systems class by utilizing the ongoing teaching plan as the media for introducing the new approach.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with large area of land and sea, and therefore possesses vast amount of natural resources. However, the use of natural resources without proper handling or management of the waste causes a serious problem in Indonesia. Besides the lack of waste management facilities, local communities also exhibit insufficient awareness and knowledge in waste management. From the point of view of universities and higher education institutions, this issue might be resulted from few community development or community service, as well as lack of knowledge dissemination. In order to equalize the knowledge of the local communities with that of people of the large cities, then Indonesian universities perform community service (a part of the university tridarmas). With the intention to obtain effective and efficient community service, in this manuscript we describe mapping of publication of community service in the Scopus (a trusted database of international publication) in the field of waste management. From 2410 data from Scopus, they are sorted to obtain 38 publications related to the community service and community development for the waste management. The locations of the community services are mapped, as distributed in islands of Sumatera, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. From the mapping, it can be observed that most of the published community service activities are concentrated in Java, Bali, and some at Sulawesi. It is therefore imperative to have future explorations at Kalimantan, Sumatera, and Papua. The published community services in Scopus commonly discuss about the developments of (1) recycling or upcycling, (2) socioeconomic evaluation, (3) performance evaluation, and (4) ecological evaluation of the waste management. Besides the mapping, bibliometric analysis is also performed where it is shown that the community service related to the waste management in Indonesia is highly tied with the sustainable development, rural areas, waste or wastewater treatment, sanitation, etc. where all these issues are important and urgent to obtain economic equality (especially for people of Kalimantan, Sumatera, and Papua) to achieve Gold Indonesia 2045.
