Abstract

This research was inspired by the phenomenon of using a variety of languages and has a variety of languages that have different characteristics from one region to another, from one country to another. The purpose of this study is to describe the language selection that is widely used by sellers in the use of invitation sentences to promote products being sold to make them more attractive in the Shopee online shopping application. The research method uses descriptive methods with qualitative analysis. The results showed that the language of invitation in the Shopee application that we often use is non-standard language and is not in accordance with KBBI. Code mixing and code switching occur in informal situations when delivering messages to emphasize information in interacting with one another. The form of mixed code and the form of code switching between Indonesian and English and slang is the form of words.

Abstract

This study aims at revealing two prime points (1) how is Indonesian Language utilized in legal practice in Indonesia and (2) which method is frequently used by legal practitioners in interpreting a certain word? This is a descriptive-qualitative study. The data of the research are sentences or phrases taken randomly from the criminal code (KUHPidana), civil code (KUHPerdata), trade code (KUHDagang), decrees, explanations of legislation (laws). The analysis employed is descriptive and prescriptive. It was figured out that the use of Indonesian language in legal aspect was manifested in seven processes: translation, abstraction, association, typology, meaning emphasis, simplicity, and legal choices. While the interpretive method used is interpretations and construction methods. Tulisan ini bertujuan menjawab dua persoalan, yaitu (1) bagaimana wujud penggunaan bahasa Indonesia dalam praktik hukum di Indonesia, dan (2) metode yang seringkali digunakan oleh praktisi hukum dalam menginterpretasikan suatu kata. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Datanya adalah kalimat atau frasa yang diambil secara acak dari KUHPidana, KUHPerdata, KUHDagang, surat-surat keputusan, dan penjelasan undang-undang. Analisis datanya adalah analisis deskriptif dan preskriptif. Diketahui bahwa wujud penggunaan bahasa Indonesia dalam bidang hukum ada tujuh proses (penerjemahan, abstraksi, asosiasi, tipologi, penekanan makna, pemadatan, dan pilihan hukum). Sementara metode penginterpretasiannya adalah metode penafsiran dan metode konstruksi.

Abstract

The research aimed at elaborating: (1) the wise expression forms in wise  the novels of Tere Liye’s “Rindu” and “Pukat”, (2) the implicit meaning in the wise expression, and (3) the meaning strength of the wise expression in the conversations, so that the meaning contents could be found out. This was the qualitative descriptive research with the semantic analysis. Data resources were Tere Liye’s novels. The research data were in the forms of the wise expressions found in the conversations. The data were collected thought the scrutinized method with the note-taking technique. The data were analysed descriptively through the concepts of Leech and Djajasudarma.  The research result indicates that Tere Liye are forty two wise expression used in both novels. The wise expression forms are the advice, ethic/moral, educational, and religious wise expression. The wise expression which are frequently used in the novel “Rindu” are the advice and religious wise expression, similarly the  wise expressions which are frequently used in the novel “Pukat” are the ethic/moral expression. The wise expression meanings in the novel “Rindu” include the narrowed, widened, connotative, emotive, lexical, propositional, pictorial, idiomatic meaning, whereas the wise expression meanings in the novel “Pukat” include the widened, connotative, lexical, propositional, pictorial, and idiomatic meanings. The wise expression meaning strength in the novel “Rindu” usedthe conversations include the conceptual, connotative, stylistic, affective, and thematic, meanings. Similarly the meaning strength found in the novel “Pukat” include the conceptual, connotative, affective,reflective, and thematic.

Abstract

Expressive speech acts are often used in both environments, schools, offices, hospitals and market. This research aims to describe the function of speech is expressive of sellers and buyers in the event of transaction in the traditional market town of Baubau. This qualitative descriptive nature of the research. Sampling is done in purposif. Linguistic phenomena is examined with a pragmatic approach. Research data in the form of verbal data sourced from the conversation of sellers and buyers in a transaction. The data was collected by using the method of observation through the technique of record and note. The data have been analyzed in qualitative descriptive are classified. The results showed that the functions of the seller's expressive speech consists of functions to thank, praise, and function function complained. Furthermore the functions of speech is expressive of the buyer, i.e. the function to thank, praise, function and the function of complaining.

Abstract

In the era of digital communication, WhatsApp stickers have become a commonly used tool for conveying subtle expressions. This study investigates language variations in WhatsApp stickers among students. This qualitative research focuses on linguistic features in WhatsApp stickers used by students. Data were obtained from linguistic student groups, particularly those in the first and second semesters of 2023. Findings reveal diverse language variations across lexical, grammatical, orthographic, code-switching, and semantic features. The stickers showcase non-formal language, emphasizing innovative linguistic strategies and a high level of language proficiency. The use of stickers is characterized by interactive communication within WhatsApp groups, offering a visual alternative on small smartphone screens. In addition to serving as a form of self-expression, stickers also play a strategic role in fostering emotional connections and achieving specific communicative goals.
