Abstract

Elderly is the stage of life process that characterized by decreasing in the body ability, so that there are many changes in anatomical and physiological, including changes in neurology, musculoskeletal, and bladder. It has an impact on weakness of pelvic muscles that cause urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter muscle inadequate as an effort to prevent urine leakage. The treatment is performed by giving direct pelvic floor muscle support and the overall core muscle through exercises. The aim of this study is to determine the combination effect of kegel exercise and bridging excerise on changes in urinary incontinence in the elderly. This study is a pre-experimental design, with one group pretest-posttest design approach. The population is all the elderly at Batara Hati Mulia Foundation, Gowa and takes 13 people from purposive sampling technique. The Data was collected by taking primary data through interviews and based on ordinal scale frequency of urinary incontinence. This study was performed for 6 weeks by 18 exercise sessions. A paired T test is performed as statistical test and the results of pre-test and post-test analysis increased the frequency of urinary incontinence with value of p ;0,000. It shows that the combination of kegel exercise and bridging exercise has an effect on changes in frequency of urinary incontinence in the elderly.

Abstract

This study aims to see a picture of the effectiveness of implementing a home-based stroke rehabilitation program. This research is a preliminary study involving 10 research subjects divided into 2 groups. Group 1 was given a rehabilitation program in the form of a physiotherapist's visit to provide exercise once a week. Group 2 was given 3 visits a week. A home-based stroke rehabilitation program in both groups was carried out for 1 month. In both groups, measurements of muscle strength, risk of falling and independence were measured. Each of the three variables was measured using a dynamometer, timed-up and go test, and functional independence measure (FIM). The results showed that group 2 had better muscle strength, risk of falls, and independence than group 1. This showed that in implementing a home-based stroke rehabilitation program, visits were more routine, at least 3 times a week, more recommended than visits that were only 1 time a week.

Abstract

Elderly is a period of life that is distinguished by anatomical and physiological changes in the body. Changes in the neuromuscular system, for example, might lead to decreased muscle strength and balance issues. This functional decline causes the elderly to fall easily. Fall risk in the elderly is impacted by both inherent and extrinsic variables. However, the elderly are unaware of the existence of factors that raise the chance of falling, leading them to believe that falling is a normal part of aging. The elderly who have a history of falling also tend to immobilize and avoid activities for fear of falling which actually makes the risk of falling even higher. To improve the elderly's quality of life, measures must be made to prevent falls in the old. The goal of this activity is to educate the elderly on the risk factors for falls that may be avoided, as well as exercises that can be used to prevent falls. The method employed consists of fall risk assessment, education on fall risk factors, and the practice of balance exercises. The results of the fall risk examination show that as many as 72,7% of the elderly have a risk of falling and 86,4% have weak muscle strength. The counseling materials explain the inner and extrinsic causes that contribute to falls, as well as the steps that can be taken to avoid them. One of them is through balance exercises in which all individuals participate. This action has resulted in an increase in understanding about fall prevention efforts.

Abstract

Introduction; The musculoskeletal system, which greatly affects the balance of the elderly body and can cause mobility disorders, is one of the declines experienced by the elderly. Physical exercise in the form of muscle strengthening and balance exercises is an effective way for the elderly to improve their functional abilities. Purpose; This study is to determine how providing Balance and Strength Tele-Exercie (BAST) affects changes in lower extremity muscle strength and functional mobility in the elderly. Method; This is an experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design method. A total of 15 people aged 60-75 were analyzed using a purposive sampling technique. The 30s Chairs Stand Test, Functional Reach Test, and Time Up and Test were used to retrieve research data. Result; A significant value was obtained based on the bivariate analysis results. The muscle strength variable has a sign value of 0.005, the dynamic balance variable has a sign value of 0.003, and the functional mobility variable has a value of 0.001. Conclusion: This BAST program improves leg muscle strength and functional mobility in the elderly

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the Otago Exercise Program on the risk of falling and the quality of life of older people. Methods: The method used was experimental research with pretest-posttest design and control group design, involving 16 participants. Before and after treatment, respondents measured the risk of falling using a Timed-Up-and-Go test (TUGT) and quality of life using the World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (WHOQL-BREF). Furthermore, the obtained data were analyzed using the paired T-test and independent T-test. Results: The results showed a significant effect on the risk of fall and the quality of life of the older people in the treatment group. In addition, there were significant different influences on the value of falling risk and quality of life (physical and environmental) between the treatment and control groups. Conclusion: The Otago exercise program had a significant effect on reducing the risk of falls and improving the quality of life of older people.
