Abstract

Childhood is generally regarded as the most cheerful phase in people life. Related to the language learning, in this period of time a child unconsciously learns how to speak his/her vernacular trough constant imitation and repetition of the utterances produced by the older people when they are speaking in their mother tongue language. This phenomenon takes place when the child is about six to eight years old. In the years after, a foreign language will be effectively taught, because they are supposed to be adult linguistically, which means that tha child is going to get ready to learn a new set of habits in speaking. Several characteristics of children as young learners of a foreign language should be considered as a guideline to decide several kinds of approach, methods, techniques, and models of foreign language teaching and learning to optimize their foreign language proficiency, considering that they have specific and unique characteristics contrasted to adult learners. To yield an intended result, appropriate, accurate and integrated materials involving pronounciation, vocabulary enrichment and sentence arrangement must be selected in such a way and adjusted to the learners’ needs. It’s not easy to achieve the intended purpose of the process due to several handicaps such as; lisping, slurring, stuttering, and cluttering.

Slawi District, Tegal Regency. Knowing the form of support from the principal, other teachers and facilities in the implementation of the CTL learning model. This research method uses a pre and post test experimental design. This phase includes several activities, namely; (a) conducting a pretest (pretest), (b) conducting an observation, interview/interview, (c) conducting a final test (posttest). Conducting a pretest (pretest) to one group/class before applying the CTL model. Conducting a final test (posttest) to the group/class after applying the CTL model. Perform analysis by comparing pre-test and post-test scores with t-test. From the results of calculations using the t-test, it is obtained that the empirical t-test is greater than the t-test in the table, so it can be concluded that the CTL learning model is more effective.

Abstract

This research article explores effective strategies to enhance English speaking skills among Generation Z (Gen Z) learners, known as the first truly digital-native generation. Despite their extensive exposure to English media, many Gen Z individuals face challenges in developing their English speaking proficiency. This mixed-methods study employs surveys and qualitative interviews to collect data on the perceived effectiveness of various strategies. The findings highlight the crucial role of technology in English speaking development, with digital language learning applications and online language exchange platforms being recognized as potent tools. Moreover, the study emphasizes the significance of authentic communication experiences, such as role-plays and debates, and the value of peer collaboration in improving English speaking skills. Common challenges identified include time constraints and the influence of informal language use. Consequently, the implications of this research underscore the integration of technology, the promotion of authentic communication, the facilitation of peer collaboration, and the implementation of strategies to address time constraints in English language instruction for Gen Z learners. By adopting these approaches, educators and policymakers can establish engaging learning environments that empower Gen Z learners to thrive in our interconnected society.
