Abstract

As the importance of English in this globalization era, it is taught in all level of education program, including for early childhood education as extracurricular program. Meanwhile, the fastest spreading of technology also influences children, impacting on the overuse of gadget for children. The children nowadays are busy playing with their smartphone and avoid playing traditional games. Consequently, the nature of educative values on traditional games are decrease significantly. Dealing with such problem, the needs for a method of teaching English as well as giving students motivation to preserve the existence of traditional games is unavoidable. In this paper, the writer aimed to introduce a concept of teaching English vocabulary for early childhood students by using ‘hide and seek’ traditional games. The modification of the traditional game in teaching English is to give another way of creating an enjoyable teaching and learning process for early childhood students. Through games, the teachers are able to create a various context for students to learn and play as well. This paper is to bring another model for teachers to deal with the importance of English and the conservation of traditional games in teaching process.

Abstract

Problems for learners of English as Foreign Language may appear due to the lack of English mastery of the teachers. Since teachers are regarded as input for language learning, it impacts the students’ achievement. Pronunciation is one of the problems faced by both Indonesian teachers and students. When the teachers give the correct pronunciation, it results in the correct pronunciation of the students. On the other hand, the wrong pronunciation of the teachers will impact the students’ incorrect pronunciation. This study is aimed to reveal the early childhood teachers’ ability in pronouncing English vocabulary. The findings of the study are to determine the appropriate treatment which might be needed to overcome the problems. The subject of the study were 40 randomly selected early childhood teachers. The data were collected by testing their vocabulary mastery and pronunciation ability. The result of the study showed that the English mastery of early childhood teachers was needed to be developed for less ability in pronouncing the vocabulary correctly. The questionnaires also implied that the teachers need improvement in dealing with English.

Abstract

The students of EFL Classroom sometimes find difficulty in writing. The students difficulty in writing caused by the gate between the students’ L1 and L2 and the lack of supported information related to the source of idea for writing. Teaching media are to solve the problems especially in writing. This study is aimed at using films, especially the characters, as media in improving students’ ability in writing recount. The subject of the study were 30 numbers of 10th graders of vocational school students. The findings showed that the average of the pre-test and post-test scores were 67.53 and 83.63. The improvement calculation was found 0.496 which was categorized as medium. The calculation of applying the t-test was on rejection area of ??Ho, showed that the post-test was better than the pre-test. According to the data analysis, the writer concludes that the strategy by using films is applicable since it helps students to solve their problem in writing recount. The media enable the students to actively engage to the learning process and improve their ability in writing for they give them the idea of writing recount.
