The main purpose of this research was to find out if there was indeed a correlation between parental socioeconomic status and student’s achievement in English at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 OKU. Next problem of this research concerned with the dominat indicator of parental socioeconomic status, student’s achievement in English and correlation between parental socioeconomic status and student’s achievement in English. This research used correlation method.The population of the research was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 OKU, consisted 435 students. The sample was 111 students that were taken by using purposive sampling of eleventh grade students’ at SMA N 1 OKU in academic 2017/2018. The instruments used were questionnaire of parental socioeconomic status and the score of students’ English report. Based on the data analysis and the result of investigation the dominant indicator that influenced parental socioeconomic status was parent’s income with the percentage 59, 90%. Meanwhile, base on the students score there were no students in low level category, there were 25 students or 22, 52% got execelent category and there were 86 students or 77,47% got good category. It could be concluded that the students whose score were in good category came from good socioeconomic level. The coefficient of the correlation between parental socioeconomic status and students English achievement was 0,550.it mean that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and consequently the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, the research concluded that the dominant indicator that influenced parental socioeconomic status was parents’s income. Next the most of students’ English achievement were included in good category. Therefore there was positive correlation between parental socioeconomic status and student’s achievement in English at the eleventh grade students’ of SMA Negeri 1 OKU.

Abstract: Listening is considered as a basis of English skills. Unfortunately, students mostly have problems on word recognitions that make them have undeveloped vocabularies that automatically affect their listening comprehension. Running dictation was believed as a motivational teaching technique that can minimize these problems. This study was aimed at investigating the effects of running dictation toward students’ listening comprehension achievement viewed from their learning motivation. This experimental study applied a 2 x 2 factorial design. Fifty students of English Education Study Program were chosen randomly on the basis of their learning motivation and assigned equally into two groups. The result showed that running dictation successfully improved students’ listening comprehension achievement (?<0.000); there were also significant difference of achievement between experimental and control group (?<0.000). Meanwhile, the ANOVA result showed that there was no interaction effect between techniques used and learning motivation on their listening comprehension achievement (?=0.867). In March 2020 almost all cities in Indonesia face the scary viruses namely corona. The speed of the viruses spread influences all aspects of life without exception. Education system is one of the crucial things which is influenced by this virus. Whether want or not, the educators must change their way of teaching. Face to face in the class must be avoided. The purpose of this study is to clarify ways of corona virus pandemic reshape education. This study also explains about kinds of online learning which are used by the educators in the era of pandemic corona viruses in the world and the strategies to improve online teaching when university is closed. The advantages of using them are also clarified. In addition, the writer try to gain the information about the effectiveness of using online learning to teach.

The Implementation of British Parliamentary Debate Style Training to Improve Second Semester Student’s Speaking Ability at English Education Study Program of Baturaja University Henny Yulia; Nanda Aprilita

The problem of this study was concerned with British Parliamentary Debate Style Training to improve second semester students’ speaking ability at English Education Study Program at Baturaja University. The objective of this study was to find out whether it was significantly effective or not to implement British Parliamentary Debate Style Training to improve second semester students’ speaking ability at English Education Study Program at Baturaja University. This study used pre experimental design covered pre test before the treatment and post test after the treatment. The second semester students of English Education Study Program at Baturaja University were the population. The number of the population was 18 students. The researcher took class A as a sample by using cluster random sampling. Based on the calculation, the sample of the study was 12 students and the significance level (α = 0.05). The result of paired t test has value of ttest (5.033) was more than the value of ttabel (2.2009) with df = 12-1 = 11. The value of Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 lower than the value of significance level (α = 0.05). This result showed that the alternative Hypostudy (Ha) was accepted. It meant that British Parliamentary Debate Style Training could improve second semester students’ speaking ability of English Education Study Program. Character is very important aspect of human being. Having good character will contribute students to have good personality. Both parent and teacher have responsibility to inculcate the character to the children since they are elder person who usually interact with them. Morality is part of character which is very needed today. The fact that some children loose their respect to the parent, teachers, and friends is a signal that there is a degradation of students character. School as places where students spend most of their time must give good contribution to students characters. The importance of teaching morality and how to insert morality in school become the topic of this paper. It is hoped that by having good morality, indonesian education will become better and better which automatically makes the quality of indonesian education become highly improved.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ACROSTICS METHOD IN IMPROVING STUDENTS VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT AT SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MTS AL- FURQON PRABUMULIH Henny Yulia

Masalah penelitian ini berkaitan dengan penggunaan metode akrostik dalam mengajar kosakata. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah metode akrostik efektif digunakan dalam pengajaran kosakata kepada siswa kelas tujuh Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Furqon Prabumulih. Dalam penelitian ini, metode pra-eksperimen digunakan. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas tujuh di Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Furqon Prabumulih. Jumlah total populasi penelitian ini adalah 121 siswa dan sampel adalah 31 siswa untuk kelompok eksperimen yang diambil dengan menggunakan cluster sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes. Tes ini terdiri dari 26 item dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Data yang diperoleh melalui tes dan analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan t-test independen di SPSS 21. Hasilnya ditemukan skor rata-rata pretest adalah 34,23 dan skor rata-rata post-test adalah 74,56. Dan berdasarkan perhitungan t-test, nilai Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,000 kurang dari tingkat signifikansi (a = 0,05). Nilai t diperoleh = 11,549 lebih dari ttabel = 1,693 dengan df = 32, dan nilai og Sig. (2 - tailed) adalah 0,000. Itu kurang dari tingkat signifikansi (a = 0,05). Berdasarkan hasil ot t-test yang telah diberikan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa efektif mengajar kosa kata dengan menggunakan metode acrostics kepada siswa kelas tujuh Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al Furqon Prabumulih.

Penelitian yang berjudul “Investigasi Masalah Pemahaman Mendengarkan yang Dihadapi oleh Mahasiswa Semester Ketiga Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Baturaja” membahas tentang masalah yang dihadapi oleh Mahasiswa Semester Ketiga terhadap Pemahaman Mendengarkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui masalah dominan yang dihadapi siswa dari lima faktor; materi mendengarkan, aspek linguistik, kurang konsentrasi, faktor pendengar, dan pengaturan fisik. Metode deskriptif digunakan untuk menganalisis dan mencari solusi tentang masalah. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Baturaja. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 3 program Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Baturaja. Jumlah populasi adalah 14 siswa dari satu kelas. Teknik total sampling digunakan untuk memilih satu kelas yang terdiri dari 14 siswa sebagai subjek dalam penelitian ini. Dari kelima faktor tersebut, peneliti mengetahui bahwa faktor kelima sebagai pengaturan fisik menjadi masalah dominan dari pemahaman menyimak sebagai hasil dari jawaban siswa, dari tabel, faktor kelima memiliki 34,86% sebagai persentase dominan, jadi peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa pengaturan fisik adalah masalah utama terutama untuk kehilangan terkonsentrasi dengan kualitas rekaman yang buruk yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Baturaja.

This study aims to find out what is the students’ perception of Google Classroom on online learning of English education study program at Baturaja University. This study used descriptive quantitative method. The population of this research was 91 students of English education study program. The researcher only took 73 students namely the 4th, 6th and 8th semester as the sample by applying purposive sampling. The data was collected through the questionnaire with Google form as an intermediary application. It consists of 16 statements. Then the researcher used five points of Likert Scale for analyzing the data based on percentage interval and Google form. The result of this research was students had positive response and support Google Classroom as learning media in online learning. It showed that Google Classroom is an effective tool for online learning because it can help the students to improve their learning through an active participation and Google Classroom is an easy tool to use and learning because of its features and it can access anywhere and make save time.

The purpose of this research was to find out how teachers perception of Merdeka curriculum implementation at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. The technique sampling used in this research is a total sampling. The writer used a questionnaire to collect data. Based on the research results from the data analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the teachers at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja has a moderate perception of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The teachers understanding of the the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum stage are good so that they can deepen its implementation, have a good understanding of merdeka belajar, understand there is a reduction in content that is beneficial for both teachers and students, the learning process that adapts to the character and needs of students. The existence of this positive perception is a supporter of successful implementation merdeka belajar curriculum at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja. The results of questionaire showed that teachers at SMP IT Fathona OKU Baturaja and SMP IT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja has a positive perception and good appreciation of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

This study was to find out the students’ perception on the use of Android- based ExamBrowser as the medium to assess examination. This study used the qualitative survey method.The population of the study was the eighth and ninth grade students of SMPIT Tunas CendikiaBaturaja. The writer took all of the sample by applying total sampling consist of 85 students.The data collected through questionnaire, it consists of 35 statements. Then, the writer usedpercentage formula to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that there were manystudents who think that they were agree or had positive perception on the use of Android-based exam browser as the medium to assess examination in SMPIT Tunas Cendikia Baturaja.The data were in high criteria in each indicator. Students' interest/intention from the eighthgraders (73,62%) and the ninth graders (64,90%), students' perceived usefulness from theeighth graders (74,07%) and the ninth graders (56,46%), students' perceived of ease of usefrom the eighth graders (59,26%) and the ninth graders (58,33%) and students' Androidattitude from the eighth graders (68,52%) and the ninth graders (60,20%). From the result,students’ anxiety from the nineth grade (44,39%) disagree or indicate to negative perceptionabout the use of Android-based exam browser as the medium to assess examination in SMPITTunas Cendikia Baturaja. It was because Android-based Exam Browser still intimidated andmade them feel afraid of making mistakes in using Android- based exam browser, beside thatalso anxious and nervous due to sometimes their Android did not as friendly as hangs, runsout of battery, and disconnected from the connection server.
