Abstract

There is a tendency of cases in transforming spoken and written language. A current debate was proposed about the role. This debate derives from current phenomenon which shows evidence which is related with learner mastery in the particular skills. Some learners are able to produce spoken form of language fluently, however, when it comes to writing, it is seen that they find difficulties and get disturbance to put down ideas and elaborate the ideas into a good writing.  Hence, two questions arise. First, to what extent is the nature of spoken and written language? Second, what are strategies to help learners in transforming their spoken language to the written production? Therefore, this article is proposed to explain the nature of spoken and written language and present any strategies to help learners in transforming their spoken language into the written forms.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze  analyzes suggestion acts that were spoken by English instructors in conversation classes at the Andalas University Language Center. The purposes purposes of this study are are to identify and explain explain the types of speech acts, taxonomies, modifications, and reasons of the instructor expressing the speech. This study is descriptive study which data are taken from two conversation class instructors in language centre of Andalas University This study is descriptive study which data are taken from two conversation class instructors in language centre of Andalas University. The data are in the form of transcriptions, research notes, and interviews. The data are in the form of transcription, research notes, and interviews. The data are in the form of  The data are in the form of transcription, research notes,, and interviews. The instruments used are observation sheets, audio recordings,, and interview guidelines. The findings indicate indicate that the two instructors expressed different suggestions at each meeting. The highest intensity of appearance of suggestion acts is is seen in the first meeting of the first instructor and the third meeting of the second instructor. Furthermore, the two instructors also express express the same type of taxonomy/suggestion acts as conventionalized forms. Then, a similar fact is is found from the modified aspect, namely subjectivizer. The reasons reason why the instructor expresses suggestions are are influenced by social distance, power,, and imposition. Based on these findings, it is is implied that the suggestion actions action taken by the instructors instructors  are are influenced by the culture of the community and the class context.

Abstract

This study aimed to discover the development of tourism industry in several cultural events at Batam Regency, Riau Island Province. This is seen crucial as it deals with how the cultural event in tourism industry may affect the intensity of tourists’ revisit and tourism development. The data were obtained from interview and library research about the number of tourists’ visits on the cultural events and the increased number of the local revenue. The data were analyzed through qualitative data analysis. The results from the study showed how effective the cultural events to attract tourists’ revisit, develop the tourism industry, and local revenues. Abstract

The purpose of this research to identify the lexicogrammatical complexification level of the subjects’ spoken and written narratives (low, moderate, or high?); and to find out whether there is any difference as for the level of lexicogrammatical complexification between the subjects’ spoken and written narratives. The sample of the research is for Portuguese EFL-students who were taking up the Letras undergraduate program at Universidade Estadual do Ceará – UECE and Universidade Federal do Ceará - UFC. The research is done in descriptive one. The result of the research shows that both students’ competence in functional grammar is viewed very high, in which 87.61% for the spoken medium and 94.14% for the written one, and together – 90.72% of all ranking clauses. Basically, the previous research is focused on the same object with this research that is analyzing students’ competence. Unlike the previous one, this research focuses on the students’ competence in functional grammar in analyzing clauses.

Abstract

Data collection in this study were carried out by observation, interviews, and literature study. Abstract

Community service is one of the mandatory tasks of lecturers as part of the realization of the Tri Dharma activities of Higher Education. In line with this, Tri Dharma activities are focused on important activities in contributing to improving the quality of life of the community, especially in developing skills that can be used in a wider scope of society. One of the activities carried out was the training of kombucha tea making techniques for PAUD teachers of GUGUS CAHAYA JINGGA at Batam Tourism Polytechnic. This training aims to provide information to teachers of PAUD Cahaya Jingga Cluster regarding the ingredients and process of making kombucha tea, knowing the time needed to produce fermented products, and knowing the morphological and chemical characteristics of kombucha tea. The specific target to be achieved is to make PAUD GUGUS CAHAYA JINGGA teachers skilled in processing kombucha tea products and can develop them in entrepreneurship so as to support financially in the economy.

Abstract

High unemployment and limited job vacancies in Indonesia force us all to become entrepreneurs, but limited knowledge, skills and motivation are the main obstacles. The millennial generation as the future young generation of the Indonesian nation needs to be trained and have their competencies increased so that the technology they consume can be useful and generate income for themselves or others. The purpose of this digital entrepreneurship training is as entrepreneurship education based on technology that is already attached to them, which is one of the important and strategic aspects to increase competitiveness and reduce unemployment which has an impact on Indonesia's economic stability. Entrepreneurship training seeks to create a mental attitude and spirit that is always active or creative, empowered, creative, creative and modest and trying to increase income in its business activities. Entrepreneurship needs to be instilled and developed since he was young, since he was still in school. The emergence of the current problem is the large number of unemployed and the difficulty of getting a job, so the expected results with entrepreneurial knowledge obtained from digital entrepreneurship training will be the capital later to open their own business from a young age. The results were already visible from their enthusiastic attitude in participating in this training and even some of the participants were able to create a business website, register on the market place and dare to promote their products on social media.
