Abstract

There are still some flaws in cultural resource management in Indonesia, especially in regard to cultural heritage management in karst environment. It is necessary to establish a good coordination and cooperation on archaeological resource management in the karst environment between the departments and district governments of: Culture and Tourism, Forestry, Environment, Mineral and Energy. A excellent system of coordination and cooperation in respect to archaeological resource management in karst environment is well represented in East Kalimantan.

Abstract

Prehistory artefact collection in Lambung Mangkurat Museum can to use as data to study of prehistory culture distribution and development in South Kalimantan province. Data about place identification or sites where the artefact founded can be use base of to ascertain moreover research step. In spite of, not all that identification place to represent place where artefact founded, so that need to ask where found the artefact mentioned. Space, time, and form aspect very important inspection and analysis prehistory artefact. This case inside, prehistory artefact collection of Lambung Mangkurat Museum only have of form aspect.

Abstract

It is acknowledged that the indigenous people who inhabit Kalimantan are the Dayak. Ethnologists suggest that the Dayak are divided into hundreds of smaller ethnic groups. Each sub-ethnic group develops its particular burial tradition, either primary or secondary. Nevertheless, based on many ethno-archaeological researches, retained universal elements are indicated in each burial materialization among others is burial with or without container placed in caves or rock shelter. This article discusses the origins of cave burial tradition in Kalimantan.

Abstract

The grave-caves, which are found abundantly iQ the karst environment of Tabalong, especially in Haruai and Muarauya, are presently ruined: The damage is caused by the change of karst environment. Such change is contributed by the extensive illegal logging and limestone mining for establishing roads and houses. The interior of caves are also damaged by immense guano digs. Since grave-caves present values of cultural history, they are protected under the Law of Items of Cultural Property. Nevertheless, the facts indicate neither the government nor the community of Tabalong successfully protect its natural and cultural assets. Everyone should be receptive toward the preseNation of karst environment whether flora, fauna, caves or rock-shelters. Therefore, practical steps to preseNe this specific environment are crucial and have to take place immediately. Established plans based on joint programs among stakeholders may solve the preseNation problems on karst environment including the caves.

Abstract

Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu merupakan daerah pemekaran baru dari Kabupaten Kotabaru. Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu mempunyai sumber daya kawasan karst yang besar, terutama di wilayah Kecamatan Mantewe. Penelitian arkeologi di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu dilakukan Balai Arkeologi Banjarmasin sejak tahun 2008. Permasalahan penelitian adalah mengetahui potensi situs arkeologi prasejarah di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu dan ancamannya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survei dan ekskavasi arkeologi terhadap gua-gua di kawasan karst Mantewe. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya informasi baru tentang situs gua hunian prasejarah di kawasan tersebut, yaitu adanya lukisan dinding gua dan temuan rangka manusia. Ditemukan juga adanya tiga kegiatan yang mengancam keberadaan situs, yaitu kegiatan penambangan batubara, penambangan batu gamping, dan penambangan guano. Oleh karena itu penelitian lanjutan yang intensif harus segera dilakukan, kawasan karst harus dilindungi dan dikelola dengan baik. Tanah Bumbu Regency is a new enfoldment of Kotabaru Regency. This regency has huge of karsts area, especially in Mantewe District. Archaeological researches of survey and excavation in Tanah Bumbu have been conducted since 2008 by Balai Arkeologi Banjarmasin. The problems will be solved in this article are how high the potency of prehistoric sites and the threatened condition of sites. The methods used were survey and excavation in the karsts region of Mantewe. The results inform the new data of cave settlements which contain rock art and human burial from prehistory. There are also found three activities which harm the cave sites coal mining, limestone mining, and guano collecting. Therefore, it is compulsory to conduct advance researches, to protect the sites by the Heritage Act, and to manage the karsts area effectually.
