Abstract

Hepatitis B is still one of public health problems in the world including in Indonesia. The most vulnerable group to hepatitis B virus exposure is healthcare workers including clinical laboratory technicians. The best way to prevent hepatitis B infection is by getting vaccination. Therefore clinical laboratory technicians are among prioritized subject in getting hepatitis B vaccination. However, hepatitis B vaccination for healthcare workers is not an obligation yet. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge, attitude and practice of hepatitis B vaccination among clinical laboratory technicians at X Hospital of Riau Province. This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out between October 2021 and January 2022. Overall, 38 clinical laboratory technicians were recruited for this study. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is used to determine the relationship between knowledge with attitudes and practice. The results showed that 52.6% of respondents had good knowledge, 57.9% had a positive attitude and 68.4% had not been vaccinated against hepatitis B. Based on the results of bivariate analysis, there was no relationship between knowledge and attitude (p>0.05) or practice (p>0.05). Although more than 50% of respondents had good knowledge and attitude, the low number of clinical laboratory technicians in getting the hepatitis B vaccine remains a particular concern.

Abstract

Various studies have proven the antioxidant content of Sonneratia alba fruit. Antioxidants are known to play an important role in inhibiting the formation of fibrotic tissue and atheromatous plaques in atherosclerosis, in which TGF- β1 expression plays an important role in the fibrosis process of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to examine the effect of Sonneratia alba mangrove fruit extract on the expression of TGF- β1 in atherosclerosis-induced rat aorta. A total of 18 male rats, aged 6-8 weeks with a body weight of 180-250 grams were used in this study, divided into the standard (S), positive control (P) and treatment group (T). Groups P and T were induced atherosclerosis in initiation phase by giving a high-fat diet 20 grams per day for three days. Group T was given Sonneratia alba mangrove fruit extract at a dose 500 mg/kg b.w/day for three days orally. TGF- β1 expression in rat abdominal aorta was assessed by immunohistochemical techniques and microscopic imaging was performed in fields of view. The percentage of area expressing TGF- β1 was assessed using ImageJ software. The results showed the average percentage of TGF- β1 expression in group P (17,3%) was higher than in group T (12,2%) and S (8,9%). Statistical analysis using One Way Anova test showed a significant difference between groups (p=0,000). Further analysis using Bonferroni test showed a significant difference in groups P and T (p=0,022), T and S (p=0,023) and Pand S (p=0,000). In conclusion, Sonneratia alba mengrove fruit extract was able to inhibit TGF- β1 expression in atherosclerosis-induced rat aorta in initiation phase.

Hepatitis B is a global health problem. Health workers are at high risk for hepatitis B infection. Among health workers, nursing students are at high risk for hepatitis B infection. One of the prevention efforts against hepatitis B infection is vaccination. Nursing students are the group that must be prioritized for vaccines. However, in Indonesia there is no mandatory policy for health workers to be vaccinated against hepatitis B, especially nursing students. The implementation of self-vaccination is determined by the behavior of nursing students. This study aimed to describe the knowledge, attitudes and actions of students of the Professional Nursing Study Program at the University of Riau towards hepatitis B vaccination. The study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. About 83 respondents were involved in this study, using a simple random sampling technique taken based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instrument used is a questionnaire that has been tested for validation and reliability. The results showed 53% respondents had a good knowledge, 63,9% had a positive attitude and 51,8% respondents had carried out hepatitis B vaccination. Statistical analysis using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed there were significant difference between knowledge and attitude (p=1,000) or knowledge and action (p=1,000). In can be concluded that there were no significant association between knowledge and attitude or knowledge and action toward hepatitis B vaccination among students of Nurse Study Program University of Riau.
