Abstract

Speaking English is essential for vocational learners in applying future job, building career network or even dealing with the future customer. Unfortunately, lack of confidence, practice and appropriate media became several problems that caused the constraints in speaking. The later encouraged the researcher to conduct research and development to design a comic strip for vocational learners. In developing comic strip, there were several steps conducted, they are: 1) need analysis, 2) developing model, 3) expert validation, 4) first revision, 5) try out, and 6) second revision. Need analysis involved the learners and the stakeholders to identify the model needed. The result became the reference in developing model. Later, two experts validated the material and presentation aspects to help the researcher in revising the model. Try out was the next step to unsure that the revised model was appropriate and developed well. Further, the researcher used the result as another reference to complete the model. At the end of the research, the researcher found that the comic strip developed was appropriate in learning speaking the vocational school learners as the users of the model.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find words that are included into Homophone and Homograph in Dune movie subtitles. A qualitative method was applied to this research, by obtaining data from watching movies and observing subtitles, then taking screenshots with subtitles that have Homophone or Homograph in them, along with analyzing the words with Cambridge and Oxford dictionaries as references. The information from these dictionaries is used to verify meaning, pronunciation and spelling of the data found. This research applied the theory of Hobbs (2006) and Fox (1995). Based on the result of data analysis, some homophone words found in this movie are air – heir, been – bean, weather – whether, by – buy – bye, and many more. Meanwhile, some homograph words found in this movie are use, desert, lead, and live. Thus, there are 33 data found with a higher number of Homophone words (29 words) and Homograph (4 words).

Abstract

This research aimed to describe how the students use verbs in their writing descriptive paragraph. The sample uses are the students of semester 1 class B with the total number of students are 21 students. The instrument uses in this research are test and interview. After analyzing, the results shown that in test 1 students score average are 84.2. in test 2 the average of students score is 88.47. in writing descriptive paragraph, the result shown that there are still some students made mistakes in using to be present and past, I joining to be and verbs, in diction, to infinitive, tenses and missing verb. Based on interview, shown that writing is a difficult subject for some the students. Also, They ignore about grammatical rule when they are writing.

Abstract

This research aimed to design and develop an assessment design commensurate with English for Teaching along with Applied English, English Critical Thinking, Practice, and Report courses in English Literature Department of STBA JIA. Using Research and Development referring to ADDIE model proposed by Branch (2010), this research includes analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. The instruments used are interview, questionnaire, and observation. The assessment design covers five mechanism including formulation of learning targets, selection and form assessment instruments, implementation of the assessment, procedure of measurement, and report of assessment result.
