Abstract

Cikapundung River, Bandung is headed from Bukit Tunggul. It is flowing down to the residential area of Bandung. Based on biological and chemical analysis, this river has been polluted due to domestic and industrial waste. So far, impact on human health due to this water pollution has not known. In order to obtain an information on human health, descriptive analysis including questionnare and intervieuw has been carried out at five study locations of Cikapundung Riveer (Bukit Tunggul, Maribaya, Babakan Siliwangi, Babakan Ciamis and Bojong Soang). The result from this study that respondents living at Bukit Tunggul, Maribaya and Babakan Siliwangi get the water from water supply and well. The three latest locations are polluted (Surtikanti, et al, 2002). They are not aware using river water for their essential need. However, their human health has to be paid attention, because diarrhoea, skin disease and fever dengue that related to water pollution were experienced by respondents. It indicates that water pollution of Cikapundung River has indirect impact to environmental health. Keywords: human health, water pollution, Cikapundung River, domestic- industrial waste.

Abstract

Practical exercise is a learning process in science that can not be separated from the whole learning process. Based on experience, students of Biology Education Department are not able to relate directly between theory and practical exercise in Biochemistry. In order to achieve this relevancy, the ‘discovery and inquiry’ method was implemented at Biology Education Department UPI. For comparison, convensional method (control) was implemented in other class. Each group has different practical exercise notes. This activity was done with three subjects in five meeting. The increasing products of two treatments was evaluated from two sources (a) reports that were submitted after the practical exercises and (b) quiz test for each subject. The submitted reports showed that the two classes (control and experiment) wrote an exact summary and make a table for an observation data. Score for three subjects (carbohydrate, lipid and amino acid) was significantly different between control and experiment. Experiment class had score higher than that in control class. Keywords:  biochemistry, discovery and inquiry method, practical exercise, teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Science learning have to able to provide direct experiences to the students, so they not only learn the  concepts and theories, but also can learn science as a process through lab activity. In middle school,  science  learning  conducted  in  integrated  mode  in  order  to  provide  opportunities  for  students  to understand the phenomenon from various sides. The aim of this study was to produce an experiment procedure to teach integrated science in skin health theme that can be implement it in learning process.  A hands-on activity is presented in worksheet form. This study used Research and Development method. The stages were conducted in this study consist of preliminary studies and model development. Data collected through experts assessment sheet, and readability questionnaire and science process skills test. Based on experts assessment sheet obtained that experiment procedure has a good quality with average percentage about 90.56% which includes didactic aspect (93.21%), construction aspect (88.89%), and  technical  aspect (91.67%). An experiment procedure was presented in worksheet form andhas a very  good readability level with average percentage about 82.80%. The test result showed that an experiment  procedure can enhance students’ science process skills especially in doing an experiment aspect. Keywords: experiment development; integrated science experiment; skin health; sunscreen.
