Abstract

The title of this research is "The Effect of Changes in the Main Character’s Personality towards Social Setting in the Novel The Giver by Lois Lowry'". The aim of this research is to point out that personality changes can have an impact on  environment. Analysis descriptive method and library research are the method and technique used in conducting this research. The result of this study show that Jonas  has experienced change after he receives training as The Receiver and feels that something has gone wrong with the place called The Community. Memories of the beauty of the past makes him realize that the ritual called “release” was actually an assassination. In the end, these influences made Jonas leave The Community to save his environment and to return  it back to normal.Keywords : social background; psychology.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims at denoting  the image of female masculinity through the study of the main character in the novel The Spy by Paulo Coelho. The main character, Mata Hari,  works as a dancer and hetaira, but is accused of spying because of her profession. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with library research technique. The results of this study indicate that female masculinity described in the main character is considered hegemonic masculinity, that is, the kind of  masculinity formed through behavior, personal experience, and cultural processes. This masculinity is denoted in the presence of the main character’s characteristics, such as  self-nature, adventurous, free, selfish, reckless, active, and courageous.Keyword : Female masculinity, Hetaira, Masculinity-femininity.

Abstract

The main topic in this research is changes in the main character as a person with Asperger's syndrome in Kathryn Erskine’s Mockingbird. The process of this research involves the whole story, intrinsic elements: character and characterization, conflict, and setting. This qualitative research is supported by descriptive analysis method and library research technique that shows the main character as a person with Asperger's syndrome can experience character changes even though the research states that person with this syndrome is quite difficult to progress in terms of social interaction. A person with asperger syndrome has a persistent nature, but gradually the main character is able to pass through all the processes of change in her life. Abstract

Abstract   This research is a study of Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends With Us. The purpose of this study is to reveal forms and impacts of gender-based violence and efforts of the female main character to overcome all the hardship. The main issue in this novel is gender-based violence againts the female main character named Lily Bloom. In this research, descriptive analysis method is used in studying the intrinsic theories, and extrinsic theories such as gender and feminism for supporting elements. The findings of this research points that Lily experiences several forms of gender-based violences such as child abuse, physical attacks, domestic violence, pornography violence, and an act of rape. Besides that, the physical and psychological impacts are also identified. Eventually, Lily can overcome her hardship by improving her financial condition, living independently, divorcing her abusive partner, and becoming a single parent. Both internal and external factors are in support of her measure to survive and live a better life. Keywords: feminism, gender, gender-based violence, women
