Abstract

Instructional resources guarantee maximum value and effectiveness in the teaching and learning process. The instrument of instruction is communication which must be skillfully designed and developed if the objective of the instruction is to be accomplished. Models are a direct replica of real objects or figures. They are made in place of the original figure or object and used as such in place of the original. Inability to have access to mammalian internal organs is one of the challenges in teaching some concepts in Biology. Hence, the need to develop a 3-dimensional model of the human circulatory system to teach a concept in Biology. The findings revealed that the 3-dimensional automated model of the human circulatory system was successfully developed with materials sourced from the environment. Such materials include Plaster of Paris (POP), Top gum, White Cement, Car Paint (white), Acrylic Paint (Blue and Red), Tissue Paper, Binding Wire, Painting Brush, Silicon Gum, Sandpaper. This study recommended among others that management of secondary schools should make provision for the local 3-D model to be used as teaching aids for effective instructional delivery in their respective schools.

Abstract

Meaningful instruction takes place only with the appropriate use of instructional materials, especially in their real form. Inability to have access to mammalian internal organs is one of the challenges in teaching some concepts in Biology. Lack of practical experience in the teaching and learning of Biology that leads to poor mastery of important scientific skills and concepts could be among those factors responsible for students’ poor performance in Biology. Hence, the need to design and develop the Model of Human Excretory System (MHES) to teach Biology concepts in secondary schools. The study was a developmental research design, ADDIE instructional system design model was adopted in the production and evaluation of the model. The development involved four out of the five stages of the ADDIE model. The adapted phases include ADDE; these are Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation. Findings of this study revealed that: The model of the human excretory system was successfully developed using four (ADDE) out of the five stages of the ADDIE model as a guide and the cost of developing the model of the human excretory system was determined and found to be cheaper through the use of locally sourced materials.

Abstract

Construction involves the translation of a design into reality, this involves a systematic and conscientious process of bringing together or assembling diverse elements or parts to form a whole. Therefore, special care has to be taken during construction as the design intentions must be achieved. The construction of a robotic instructional model is a task that can be engaged by an expert in the area of Instructional Technology. It requires several practices and devotion to the principles and use of elements of design. Also, the appropriate use of relevant tools, equipment, and tools is indispensable. However, for an interested individual, skills for model construction can be acquired by first having an adequate observational view of the real objects to get familiar with the forms and features of the object. Robotic instructional devices can exhibit gestures and body movements so they could be used by the teacher to explain a concept. Robots can create an interactive and engaging learning experience. The important factors that influence whether the robot is likely to be useful in teaching include usability and the availability of appropriate learning activities and content. There is a need of implementing some content of the curriculum through robotic devices. In the light of this view, this study shows the detailed experimental procedure for the construction process of robotic devices to teach an aspect of Auto Mechanic in Nigerian basic schools.
