Abstract

This research aimed at describing the differences in the distribution of maxim violations of politeness principles in the communication through WhatsApp messages between students and lecturers from five higher education institutions in Indonesia. The method applied in this study was descriptive-qualitative with a pragmatic approach. The sources of the data were WhatsApp messages sent and received between students and lecturers at UIN Walisongo, IAIN Syekh Nurjati, IAIN Bengkulu, Universitas Cenderawasih, and Universitas Singaperbangsa.  The result of this study showed that there were four politeness principles violated by the students and the lecturers in their communications via WhatsApp. The highest violations were found at UIN Walisongo with four types of maxim violations. The second place were taken by Universitas Singaperbangsa with three types and the lowest ones occurred at IAIN Syech Nurjati, IAIN Bengkulu, and Universitas Cenderawasih, each with only two types of maxim violations.

Abstract

Digitalization in education has many benefits, but it is also a problem for early childhood learning if not applied appropriately. Bina Putra 1 Wonorejo Kindergarten, Demak Regency has a learning innovation using digital media as an alternative medium to support early childhood receptive language acquisition. This is the basis of this study with the aim of knowing the implementation, supporting factors, and inhibiting factors in this learning. This research is a qualitative research with case study type. The subjects in this study were 25 students of Group B of Bina Putra 1 Wonorejo Kindergarten, Demak Regency. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that, support from various parties and a well-organized learning design are the main factors for the smooth implementation of digital illustrated stories in receptive language learning at Bina Putra 1 Wonorejo Kindergarten, Demak Regency. This is also inseparable from the aspects of adequate facilities and infrastructure as well as competent educators. However, there are still obstacles in the learning process, namely technical obstacles related to the operation of tools and class conditioning at the beginning of learning. Nevertheless, the presence of school operators and accompanying teachers can support the learning process.

Abstract

The phenomenon of low literacy in Indonesian society in the current digital era raises various assumptions regarding the causal factors and solutions. Various literature states that this stems from literacy habits from an early age. Related to this problem, there is one innovation in language learning for early childhood. The innovation is expressed in the form of a program to develop basic literacy skills in early childhood through digital illustrated stories. This research aims to find out in depth about the program. Thus, the appropriate method to use in this research is a case study. The subjects in this study were teachers and 25 students from Group B of Marsudi Rini Kindergarten, Karanganyar District, Demak Regency. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show that: (1) the basic literacy development program at Marsudi Rini Kindergarten is carried out with systematic stages with support from inside and outside the school, (2) the basic literacy development program at Marsudi Rini Kindergarten is implemented in an integrated manner with language learning, both receptive and expressive; (3) digital illustrated stories media used in the program is adjusted to the criteria for early childhood development, both in terms of presentation form, content, and language.
