Abstract

In this article, I argue that issues, particularly with regard to concerns of "life after death" and the role of Minahasan forebears within the life of the community, have over time been shaped, reconstructed, and re-represented by a Western Christian moralism. A counterproposal is offered, in the form of a "theology of identity." Embracing an understanding of identity as being a summative projection of a "newborn spirit," this emerging approach to theologizing Minahasan identity offers a novel means to attend to certain turmoils that have festered within the life of the Minahasan church and its Christians.

Abstract

This article discusses the reality of diversity by using the concept of "multiculturalism". In political projects, multiculturalism includes the constitutional-based civil society movement fighting for equality and justice. In the context of Indonesia, Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution are the basis of a multicultural political constitution. The discussion on constitutional-based multiculturalism politics then becomes a kind of theory to understand the practice of multiculturalism in the context of North Sulawesi. Abstract

This article describes the process and meaning of the reconstruction of Manguni, as the sacred bird in the old Minahasa religion which became a symbol of Gereja Masehi Injili in Minahasa (GMIM) in the context of colonialism. In particular, that thing to be discussed is the reconstruction of meaning, from Manguni as a mythological belief to Manguni as an ecclesiastical symbolic motive that carries a message of nationalism. Since the early of 20th century, the historical context and discourse of the Minahasa Christian intellectuals have been the subject of research to trace the development of Christian nationalism (in) Minahasa. In the context of GMIM, the interesting things are constituted as the dialogues and debates in colonial church forums, namely the Indische Kerk delivered by Christian leaders. This articles shows that, as a reaction to colonialism whic has changed many things predominantly in Christan Minahasa society, nationalism has grown and developed uniquely through discourse of community elites and church leaders. The expression of nationalism is through political and ecclesiastical path, which both of them use the legacy of religious tradition as tool of negotiation, namely the symbol of the institution with the motive of Manguni bird.

Abstract

This article focuses discussion on the kitchen as a space and place in the socio-religio-cultural practice of the Minahasan people. One customary trait of the Minahasan people is their penchant for parties, wherein having a meal together plays an important part. All that is served on the dining table starts from the kitchen. Therefore, the kitchen is a place and space that is integrated with the social order. This article intends to demonstrate how the kitchen serves not only as a place for culinary activities, but it also functions as a space whereby God’s presence is reflected in personal, family, and communal life. Out of the theological reconstruction of its meaning, we see how the kitchen is an important part of efforts to maintain kinship, community relations, as well as hospitality, all as praxis that stems from experiencing God’s presence.

Abstract

Studi sosiologi terus mengalami perkembangan dalam memahami kedudukan agen dan struktur dalam masyarakat, terutama berkaitan dengan kehendak bebas yang dimiliki oleh manusia alamiah. Film Free Guymerefleksikan tentang masalah kehendak bebas agen dan struktur dalam masyarakat digital sebagai fokus kajian artikel ini. Kajian artikel ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif konstruktif. Teori strukturasi Anthony Giddens dipakai sebagai alat analisis mengenai konten dan pesan film Free Guy tersebut. Dari hasil kajian, maka artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa kehendak bebas pada manusia dapat berfungsi untuk gerakan transformasi sosial dengan munculnya agen atau aktor yang merespon secara kritis-reflektif situasi yang mendorong tindakan-tindakan praksis pembebasan. Struktur sosial masyarakat digital yang rumit, justru adalah konteks kemunculan agen yang berperan dalam melakukan transformasi sosial.

Abstract

This article discusses the views and beliefs of the Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches regarding the Bible. History shows the differences or separation between the two churches, especially the position of the Bible and tradition, but in the process of the ecumenical movement in which the efforts to accept and acknowledge each other, transcending the separation is a shared understanding of the meaning of the Bible for life. The discussion of this article concludes that in the differences that exist between the Catholic and Protestant churches regarding the position and belief in the Bible and tradition, in the historical dialectic, directly or indirectly, the beliefs of these two churches are about how the divine messages must continue to be contextualized in order to still meaningful for life together.

Abstract

Desa Munte merupakan desa yang termasuk dalam wilayah kecamatan Likupang Barat kabupaten Minahasa Utara yang memiliki penduduk beragam agama dan budaya. Desa Munte terbagi atas dua bagian yaitu Munte dan Tambuasin. Desa Munte sendiri memiliki 7 jaga. Meskipun ada perbedaan dalam bermasyarakat namun kehidupan masyarakat desa Munte sangat baik, terutama di dalam Moderasi Beragama. Hal ini sudah ditunjukan di dalam kepemerintahan desa Munte yang di mana memiliki agama yang berbeda-beda namun bisa terjalin hubungan yang sangat baik da hal ini menjadi salah satu daya Tarik tersendiri dari desa Munte, kecamatan Likupang Barat, Kabupaten Minahasa Utara. Pada tanggal 07 Maret 2023 mahasiswa KKN dari IAKN Manado mengadakan seminar tentang Moderasi Beragama dengan Tema “Kerukunan Umat Untuk Indonesia Hebat” dan pemerintah desa Munte memberikan respon dengan baik. Pemerintahan di desa Munte memberikan dasar sebagai Moderasi Beragama dalam kehidupan masyarakat desa Munte, Likupang Barat, Minahasa Utara.
