Abstract

Marine debris is an important issue in environmental problems that can have a negative impact on an area. Motto village, Bitung is one of the centers of activity in the capture fisheries sector. This study aims to identify the characteristics types and density of marine debris found on the coastal of Motto village, Bitung. The research method is through observation and measurement of the type and composition of the weight of marine debris. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The result showed that the characteristics of the type of marine debris found were macro-sized which divided into 3 categories, namely organic waste, plastic inorganic waste and non-plastic inorganic waste. The density of the amount and weight of marine waste that dominates is the type of organic waste in the form of leaves, namely 0.630 items/m2 and 31.372 grams/m2. The percentage of the relative density of marine debris on the coastal of Motto Village is 69% organic waste, 26% plastic inorganic waste and 5% inorganic waste. The percentage of heavy relative density of marine debris found in the Coastal Village of Motto is organic waste by 84%, plastic inorganic waste by 13% and inorganic non-plastic waste by 3%.

Abstract

Kelurahan Girian Bawah Kota Bitung didominasi oleh nelayan perikanan tangkap dan tidak menutup kemungkinan aktifitas penangkapannya dapat meningkat sehingga menyebabkan stok sumberdaya ikan mengalami penurunan. Pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan sumberdaya ikan harus dilakukan secara bertanggung jawab agar tetap lestari dan berkelanjutan mengingat sifatnya yang open access dan common properties. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dapat dijadikan wadah untuk mentransfer ilmu pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam bentuk program pendidikan masyarakat. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah mengedukasi kelompok nelayan Kelurahan Girian Bawah, Kota Bitung tentang penangkapan ikan yang bertanggung jawab dan ramah lingkungan. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi tahap survei, tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan melalui penyuluhan dan sosialisasi serta tahap evaluasi. Hasil yang diperoleh bahwa kegiatan tersebut dapat dikatakan berjalan dengan baik yang dilihat dari peserta antusias dan aktif berdiskusi secara terarah dengan tim dosen

Abstract

Purse seine is an active and effective fishing gear that catches schooling pelagic fish. The principle of operation is to encircle a school of fish and narrow the movement area of the fish. Fishing activities are inseparable from the operational aspects of fishing gear operations. The operational aspects of operation organize the operation of a fishing activity, starting from planning to harvesting the catch according to the target and high economic value. This study aims to describe the operational aspects of operating using purse seine on the FV Laut Teberau 02. Data collection was done through observation and interviews. Data analysis using descriptive analysis The results showed that the operational aspects of fishing are activities conducted from the fishing base to the fishing ground and back to the fishing base. The technical aspects that support fishing operations using purse seine on KM. Laut Teberau 02 include vessels, fishing gear, Fish Aggregating Device (FAD’s), navigation tools, communication tools, personal safety tools, and work safety tools.
