Abstract

This article explores how multicultural education at the Indonesian Islamic primary and secondary education levels and its implementation is investigated by scholars in the country. The research questions in this article are formulated in two questions, namely 1) How is the concept of multicultural education in Islamic educational institutions defined in the last six years (2016-2021)? 2) How is the implementation of multicultural education in various aspects of education at primary and secondary Islamic educational institutions in this period? This research utilizes the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method which is considered very helpful for this research model because it requires three stages, namely planning (planning), conduct (conducting), and reporting (reporting). As a result, 89 data articles have been presented by scholars in discussing multicultural education in Islamic primary-secondary education institutions throughout this period. In detail, 33 articles were found that were considered relevant to the research question, of which 21 data articles discussed the translation of concepts or discourses about multicultural education and 11 other data were more focused on analyzing multicultural education in Islamic education at the implementation level. Thus, multicultural education in Islamic educational institutions has become a topic that has attracted a lot of study by Indonesian scholars in the last six years.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the strategy of the Joko Widodo’s Government in the policy of moving and establishing a new National Capital (IKN), the responses shown by civil society, and the role of the media in bridging the government's political communications. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive data analysis, the article outlines how the three subjects, the government, civil society groups and the media, carry-out their roles regarding the IKN. Utilizing Media and Civil Society Theory, the research analysis is focused on IKN news content in selected mass media. In addition, the research analyzes this topic from the perspective of scientific integration of da'wa communication. Research results show that the Jokowi’s government has built political communication by expanding coalitions in parliament as well as using internal media as an effective strategy in gaining support for the policy of moving and opening IKN. The article also notesthat the voice of the Civil Society group, which considered that the transfer of the IKN did not have social and political urgency, was not adequately accommodated. Finally, the research finds the vulnerability of media independence referring to accommodative tendencies of the media in reporting information on the birth of transfer policies and the establishment of the new capital.

The article’s research recorded findings that various Sufism organizations or Tariqa had existed and became important actors of social change in Banten’s historical phases since the era of the Banten Sultanate, Western colonialism, until Banten became part of Indonesian territory in the contemporary era. Furthermore, the role of the Tariqa in social change is expressed in three transmissions of its influence in Banten, namely 1) the presence of Sufism teachings as a source of inspiration for the Sultan’s (ruler’s) policies, 2) the establishment of Sufi-sultan teacher connections (ruler/government), and 3) the existence of Sufi scholars and Tariqa organizations as the basis of social and moral movements.
